Chapter 77

“Why should I apologize?” Zoe said angrily. She rubbed her face and stepped toward her brother, as if intending to shove him down the escalator.

At that moment, people began to gather. One recognized Lily. After all, she was a popular star. Even with sunglasses and a hat covering most of her face, she was spotted. A crowd quickly formed.

“It’s Lily! Is that her fiancé next to her?” “What are they doing here?” “What’s wrong with the escalator? Did something happen?”

Voices buzzed around them. Lina helped Grace down the escalator. Seeing this, Sean hurried to catch up.

Lily’s eyes widened in surprise. She hadn’t expected Sean to abandon her and run after Grace! The surrounding crowd began to gossip.

“Lily’s fiancé is chasing another woman!” “Oh my god, a love triangle?”

Lily’s face flushed with embarrassment. She watched Sean reach Grace and Lina at the bottom of the escalator and considered following. Grace Cummins had killed her sister. No, she wouldn't check on Grace.

“Lily,” Zoe whispered. “We should go.”

Dozens of people, phones out, were closing in.

Lily offered a strained smile as she and Zoe, arm in arm, hurried away, shielding their faces from the cameras. They pushed through the crowd.

Sean caught up to Grace. “H-how much were your medical expenses? I’ll cover it. Zoe didn’t mean it. Let’s just keep this between ourselves. We can talk—”

“Talk about what?” Lina asked indignantly. “Sean, how dare you say your sister didn’t do it on purpose? The Stevens family is truly something else.”

She opened the car door, helped Grace into the passenger seat, and slid behind the wheel. Sean was still knocking on the door, his face pale, his voice trembling.

Even Lina sensed Sean’s fear. But what was he afraid of? That Grace would sue Zoe?

Even if it went to court, Zoe would only have to pay compensation. The Stevens family wouldn’t care about the money.

As Lina drove away with Grace, Sean remained rooted to the spot, the words “I’m done for” repeating in his mind.

Regardless of Jason and Grace’s relationship, Jason seemed to have a special connection with Grace. Since Grace was injured because of Zoe, the Stevens family was responsible. And Jason Reed had the power, wealth, and connections to ruin them.

Damn it! Zoe couldn’t behave herself for a few minutes?! Was it really that hard to take the high road? Sean weighed the possibilities. How far would Jason Reed go? He didn't know, and he didn't want to find out.

Lina drove Grace to the hospital, registered her, and waited.

Although Grace said nothing, Lina saw her pain. But Lina wondered when her friend had stopped outwardly expressing her pain. Was it because of her time in prison? Had she suffered so much that she no longer cried out?

Considering the strange accident, Lina suspected foul play, but lacked evidence.

Seeing her friend pull out her phone, Lina asked, “Who are you calling?”
