Chapter 55

Bone was hard, yet how did this doctor manage to suture it as if it were foam? The initial shock quickly subsided, as they had already been astonished by Nash's earlier opening of the skull. Craniotomies in hospitals required specialized tools, but this man had effortlessly opened the old lady's skull with a scalpel. His movements were remarkably smooth.

“Administer the analgesic! Once this blood bag is transfused, switch to saline.”

Nash removed his bloodied gloves and approached Walter with a tray of small white objects. “All the parasitic bugs in the old lady’s body have been removed. If all goes well, she’ll wake up tonight.”

“Really?” Walter’s shock was evident, his eyes instantly welling up.

Nash nodded. “I can wait for her to wake up before I leave.”

Walter’s hundred million expenditure on this medical treatment had not been in vain. Even for Nash, a man who had saved countless lives, locating all the bugs had taken three hours, given their sheer number. He had expended a great deal of energy.

“Parasitic bugs… Why were they in my wife’s body?” Walter murmured incredulously. He had only heard of these bugs; he had never seen them. Even the renowned Miracle Doctor Tanner was unfamiliar with them. How had his wife become infested?

Nash didn't concern himself with the question. His responsibility was treatment; the rest was beyond his purview. Walter, the wealthiest man in Jonford, undoubtedly had numerous business rivals. The harm inflicted upon his wife might have been orchestrated by competitors. Alternatively, it could have been an inside job.

Walter escorted Nash and Brian from the room. In the living room, the assembled Watsons eyed Nash with disapproval, his unconventional treatment methods raising eyebrows. Undeterred, Nash sat boldly on the sofa.

Walter waved a dismissive hand. “You may attend to your affairs. My presence suffices for Dr. Calcraft.” Nash knew this was a pretense; Walter intended to observe him closely. Since entering the Watson estate, he'd detected numerous experts among the family, some of whom were high-ranking grandmasters. If the woman didn't wake, he wouldn't be leaving. While he hadn't yet engaged with these grandmasters, he was here to earn money, not cause trouble. He would simply wait for her awakening.

Kai’s gaze hardened. “If something happens to my grandmother, I’ll kill you,” he said coldly.

Queenie, arms crossed, echoed the sentiment. “You’d better pray she wakes up…”

“Enough, both of you,” Walter snapped, displeased. No one was to offend Nash before his wife awoke. Afterward, Nash would be untouchable.

“Sir, the Lees sent an invitation.”

An elderly man in a suit presented an invitation card. Walter examined it, then smiled and addressed Kai. “Tomorrow is Mr. Lee’s 80th birthday. Prepare a generous gift!”

Kai nodded and departed with his entourage. Queenie immediately declared, “Grandpa, I want to go too.”

Walter smiled. “You and Kai can accompany me.” Queenie smiled, about to leave, when Walter added, “Queenie, make Dr. Calcraft a cup of tea.”
