Chapter 98

"What? Stop trying to scare me!" Hera hugged the blanket tightly and shivered.

Skadi replied with a long text: "I'm not trying to… Grandpa once saw someone possessed. The person walked stiffly, like they'd lost their soul!"

Nash rose slowly, his mind blank, turning as if in a daze. Since the burning of the Young Family Village, he had relied on his master. Now, his only support was gone. Though not dead, his master's ascension was tantamount to death. His master had said that ascended immortal cultivators could no longer enter the lower plane.

Nash walked toward the sofa like a zombie, terrifying Hera. Trembling, she messaged Skadi: "Okay, you might be right! Would you like to come over?"

[He went and laid down on the sofa!]

[Then it should be fine. Maybe it's just a harmless ghost.]

The muffled thunder continued, sending Hera ducking under the covers. "N-Nash, a-are you alright?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"I'm alright," he replied.

"Did… Did you see something?"

Nash smiled blankly. "Why would I have?"

"Then… then why were you bowing just now?"

"I thought of my master, so I bowed to him."

"Really?"

Hera peeked out. Nash lay on the sofa, a red light on his face. Another clap of thunder.

"Ah!" Hera shrank back. Nash, meanwhile, was browsing South Sea islands. His master had gone there to break his shackles, but Nash didn't know which island. He was currently viewing Maple Leaf Island, its red maple trees blanketing the ground in a dreamy expanse of crimson.

Hearing Hera's yelp, he asked helplessly, "What's wrong?"

"W-Why is your face glowing red?"

"It's just the phone light," Nash chuckled superficially.

Hearing this, Hera quietly lifted a corner of her blanket, relieved to see his phone in his hand. Rain lashed the windowpane as lightning and thunder continued.

"Nash, aren't you afraid?"

"Of what?"

"The thunder!"

"I'm not scared of thunder."

"I am, a little…" Hera squeezed her eyes shut, her heart racing, her face flushed. She'd hinted he could sleep with her, already planning to say he could, but couldn't touch her.

"Oh."

Hera was stunned. Did he not understand? Unwillingly, she asked, "Is that it?"

As she spoke, the blanket lifted. A figure slid onto the bed, nestled beside her. Hera's phone lit up with a message from Skadi: "[Are you asleep?]" The screen illuminated both their faces. Hera stared blankly at Nash, breathless.

Nash gazed at Hera's flushed face with dark eyes before saying in a magnetic voice, "Are you still afraid now?"
