Listen to this chapter:

“Best of all, her vitals are stable. I’ve got some news for you. She woke up for a while this morning. We even chatted a bit! She’s making remarkable progress; she actually sat up and even had a good appetite. At this rate, being trapped in the ICU for another three months wouldn’t be an issue at all. It looks like today and yesterday were critical, and she’s no longer predicted to stay in the ICU for much longer.”

Upon hearing this, Yarrick couldn’t contain his excitement. He had never anticipated such rapid improvement. A true miracle was unfolding before him.

“When she arrived at the hospital, her bodily functions were severely compromised, and she was in a serious coma. She was previously only sustained by nutritional injections and glucose drips. I even noted that it appeared she had lost her will to live. However, I emphasized that if we could reignite her desire to survive, there might be hope for her recovery,” the nurse had previously explained these matters to him, trying to aid his understanding. However, he still couldn’t fathom how a woman so mature and beautiful could lose her will in such a way. Surely, she must have endured a significant trauma—one that was profoundly impactful.

“Well, I’ve been quite talkative.” The nurse stayed for a moment, then finished her checks and left the room.

“Honey…” Yarrick softly stroked Hailey’s hand, suddenly feeling a little nervous. They weren’t even properly married yet. This had all happened so unexpectedly. Would she mind him teasing her when she was awake? Him casually calling her “honey”—would she be frightened? She probably didn’t even realize they were married.

“Can you hear me squeezing your hand?” Yarrick leaned closer, his voice taking on a more intimate tone as his gaze lovingly caressed Hailey’s face. He gently brushed a stray strand of hair from her cheek. In an unexpected moment, Hailey’s hand jerked slightly before settling into stillness. “Sweetheart, the nurse told me you woke up this morning and even ate a lot. I’m so happy. Let’s keep pushing, okay? Once you get better, I’ll make you delicious food every day. Hmm…”

“Hey, Ms. Jardon. Did you hear me talking?” Yarrick was startled, his hand involuntarily flinching back. He wondered if Hailey could hear him. He felt pretty awkward. After all, it was embarrassing to always call her “sweetheart” and “honey.”

“Uh, Ms. Jardon, can you hear me?” To avoid further embarrassment, Yarrick switched to calling her “Ms. Jardon” instead. After all, calling her “Mr. Jardon” would definitely be a problem.

“Ms. Jardon, Ms. Jardon…” Yarrick gently squeezed her delicate hand, cautiously calling out to her.

Yet after a while, there was still no response from Hailey. It was likely that she had only twitched his hand out of reflex. Gradually, Yarrick began to resign himself.

“Honey, you really gave me a scare. I honestly thought you woke up. I mean, I do hope that you’ll wake up. But at the same time, I have no idea how to face you when you do. I know that once you’re truly awake, you’ll probably want a divorce. After all, I’m just someone brought in to bring you good luck.”

As he spoke, he let out a quiet sigh without even realizing it. Perhaps it was because Hailey was now a part of his daily life. Lately, he even found himself wanting to talk to her more.

Time slipped away gradually, and before he realized, it was already 1:00 pm.

“Honey, I haven’t had lunch yet. I’m going to grab something to eat. I’ll come back and keep you company in a bit. Be good, okay? Try to wake up a little more often and eat a bit more, alright? Okay, sweetheart, I’m off to eat. See you later.”

With that, Yarrick stood up and let go of Hailey’s hand.

After his meal, Yarrick returned and continued to chat with her. It wasn’t until nearly 5:00 pm that he finally started getting ready to leave.

“Honey, I begin my new job tomorrow. The company is in the fashion industry, and it’s located nearby. I’ll probably have time to visit you during my lunch break and after work in the evenings too. Alright, sweetheart. I’m heading home now.”

After leaving the hospital, Yarrick went straight back to the new place he had just started renting.

“Come on, Yarrick, you’ve been out nearly the whole day. What kind of patient are you even visiting? Don’t tell me you’ve actually taken up a job as a caregiver?”
