Chapter 36
“Amanda, let me take this call,” Yarrick said.
He looked up at Amanda, pointed to his phone, then swung the door open and stepped out of her office.
“Hello, Selena,” he greeted.
“Hi Yarrick, you ready to meet Hailey?” she asked.
“Yes! I’d really love to!”
Finally, Selena had contacted him. It had been days since Hailey was discharged from the hospital and left discreetly. He had been desperate to see her. Yarrick’s desire to see her had even manifested in his dreams, where he had given her a big, warm hug.
He had been waiting for Hailey to contact him, eagerly anticipating their reunion so that they could live happily ever after as husband and wife. “Great!” Selena laughed at his excitement.
“Meet her when you get off work this Friday. She said she has made her decision,” she added.
“Okay! I can’t wait! Thanks, Selena!” he said, his excitement evident.
“Listen, Yarrick, you be good to her, you hear me? Hailey has never been in a relationship with a man. Not to mention, there’s quite an age gap between you two,” she said, sounding concerned.
“It took her a lot of courage to decide to give this a try with you,” she added.
“Say no more! Leave it to me, Selena! I’ll make sure to treat her well! I won’t let anything happen to her!” Yarrick promised.
After the call ended, Yarrick could barely contain his excitement about seeing Hailey. His heart felt like it was about to leap out of his chest. The moment he had been waiting for was finally here—he would get to see her again!
It was hard to believe that she had finally gathered the courage to meet him.
He would make sure to give her a great time in the best way possible. It had been days since he last held her hand or caressed her face, and he missed it desperately. “Good. I hope the two of you can make things work and become a real pair of husband and wife,” Selena said earnestly.
“Thank you for your support! Could you send Hailey’s address?” he asked.
“I’ll send you the address, okay?” she informed him.
“Sure. Hailey’s sick of the place she’s living in now. I’m going to get her a new place in the next couple of days. Once I’ve settled on a place, I’ll send you the new address.”
“No problem! Thank you,” Yarrick replied, sounding grateful.
If that was the case, he had to wait a little longer. Still, he was confused as to why she needed to move, especially when she already had a place to live. But it didn’t matter. If that was what she wanted, then so be it.
After a few final words, Yarrick and Selena ended the call. Then, he returned to Amanda’s office.
“Yarrick, you look happy,” Amanda commented as he returned to her office. She could tell at a glance that he was in a great mood.
He flashed her a smile and quickly came up with a plausible excuse. “Oh, I was on the phone with my family.”
It occurred to him that his explanation wasn’t entirely untrue, since Selena and Hailey seemed to be very close—almost like cousins.
“So, should we continue?” Amanda asked.
Since the food hadn’t arrived yet, there was nothing to do but keep talking and getting to know each other, and Yarrick was more than happy to keep learning. They quickly got back into the rhythm and resumed where she had left off.
Soon after, their food arrived. They ate and then quickly got back to the session.
By 2:00 pm, they had fully covered most of the topics. Yarrick had filled almost half of his notebook.
“Thank you so much again, Amanda! I’ll definitely treat you to a nice meal one day!” Yarrick exclaimed.
“I’ll be keeping that in mind,” she answered.
She smiled as she sipped her water. As she continued to check him out, the spark in her eyes seemed to intensify.
