Chapter 124

Trevon's eyes were downcast, his gaze icy as he scoffed. "Divorce? In your dreams! And as for elders, it seems you only learned the worst of their teachings!"

"Honey, remember our marriage is just a year-long contract," she reminded gently.

"I'll turn that year into a lifetime," Trevon retorted confidently.

"Oh?" Selina's interest piqued, and her delicate hands moved to adjust Trevon's tie, her lips parting slightly. "Your mother seems quite sure our union won't end well."

"Sweetheart, whether we last, whether we're happy or not, that's for us to decide," Trevon said firmly. Unable to resist, he scooped Selina up and headed upstairs. After all, there were too many prying eyes in the living room.

Snuggled in Trevon's arms, Selina looked up at him. "Honey, you're home early today, and it's still a while before dinner. How about we go to the office? I'll be your secretary for free, help you with the grunt work. What do you think?"

"Behaving so well... have you done something naughty?" Trevon teased.

"Geez, I was wandering around the villa today and accidentally smashed a vase," she revealed with a guilty giggle.

Thanks to Devin's explanation, Selina learned the vase was a priceless 700-year-old antique, worth millions and irreplaceable. Even with her wealth, Selina couldn't afford such costly clumsiness. Just a week ago, she'd accidentally destroyed a one-of-a-kind piece of calligraphy, costing thirteen million dollars. Staying in Trevon's villa required tiptoeing around lest she break something else worth a fortune. Yet, with her carefree attitude, Selina was surrounded by priceless treasures, hoping to avoid further mishaps.

Trevon's mouth curled into a playful arc. "Oh, so just an afternoon's punishment? Honey, I feel I'm getting the short end of the stick here."

Selina rolled her eyes playfully. "Then add another day, and no complaining, okay? After all, remember how much money I've made for you and Brilliance as Angel? It's only fair to call it even!"

"One day isn't enough. How about a week?" he bargained.

"Trevon, you dare to haggle with me! As the old saying goes, a man's mouth can talk a ghost into believing lies. You said you wanted to take care of me so I could splurge for generations, and it would never catch up to how fast you make money."

"Three days," he offered a compromise.

"Deal! Honey, I also want some of those cupcakes you bake!" Selina announced victoriously.

Lately, Trevon had acquired some impressive pastry skills, and his cupcakes were top-notch. Made with premium deep-sea cream, supposedly low-calorie, Selina could indulge happily.

Trevon leaned closer, nuzzling her forehead tenderly. "Sure."

The next day, Selina followed Trevon to the Insight Group headquarters. Her arrival caused a buzz. Rumors swirled that Trevon orchestrated her sudden arrival at Brilliance. Selina's identity as Angel, combined with her stunning looks, made them a dreamy match in the eyes of onlookers. Spotted together at Insight Group, they were the picture of a perfect couple. The close moments they shared fueled intense speculation and gossip.

Once inside Trevon's private elevator, Selina looped her arm through his. "Honey, I hope Andrew isn't holding a grudge for me swooping in and taking over like that."

"He wouldn't dare," Trevon replied confidently.

"Wow... that makes you one bad boss. Poor Andrew has been slaving away for years, and this is how you repay his loyalty?"

"Honey, it seems you don't feel like eating the strawberry mini-cake I made for you. Trying to pick on your hubby on your first day, huh?"

"Alright, I'll stop talking," Selina conceded.

She wanted to tease Trevon more, but his mini-cakes held her captive. Strangely, Trevon's mini-cakes tasted heavenly. Selina had tried to learn his recipe, but her attempts fell short. She suspected a secret ingredient, but there wasn't one; she'd watched him closely. Trevon possessed a natural gift for cooking, winning her heart through her stomach.

They settled into his office, and Selina slipped easily into her work, proving the saying that couples who work together, stay together. The morning flew by. Trevon wrapped an arm around Selina, enjoying a quiet moment on his office sofa. She snuggled in, munching on his cake, looking adorable.

"Why don't you come work as my personal secretary for real?" Trevon proposed seriously. "I could assign Andrew to another department."

Selina immediately declined. "Pass. I married you for a life of comfort, not to toil away. I might not love the socialite scene, but I'm also not keen on becoming a harried housewife." She devoured the last bite of her cupcake, relishing the taste.

Trevon sighed, knowing the demands of a personal secretary's role. He couldn't bear to put Selina in any other position at Insight Group; she deserved comfort and beauty.

A knock interrupted them. "Mr. Brady, are you there?" It was Herbert.

As Selina started to get up, Trevon pulled her back down. "Remember, my cousin once crossed you. How about we give him a taste of his own medicine?"

A smirk played on Selina's lips. "Honey, you're getting naughty, picking on even your cousin—you're heartless."

"He had the nerve to be rude to you—it's what he deserves," Trevon called out. "Come in."

Herbert took a deep breath before entering. Fresh from studying abroad, he'd arrived at Insight Group, eager to contribute to Trevon's business. He'd heard the morning's whispers about Selina and felt uneasy. The documents he carried needed Trevon's attention. Upon seeing Trevon and Selina cozily playful, he froze, struck speechless.

"What do you have for me? Spit it out," Trevon said, "and don't waste my wife's and my downtime."

"Huh?" Herbert managed, his mind a jumbled mess.
