Chapter 138

Looking at Selina, Bernard clenched his teeth and gripped the sofa. "You are Selina!" Veins bulged on his forehead. After all, she was the one who had broken David's hand. Selina replied lightly, "Yes. Don't be so angry. It's bad for your health. It won't be worth it."

Bernard picked up a cup from the table and threw it at Selina. "You're worried about my health? Stop the hypocrisy."

No one anticipated Bernard's action. Before Nora and Susie could react, Selina calmly caught the cup. She casually placed it on the table and said, in a slightly cold tone, "Since you started this, I suppose I needn't pretend to be kind."

Selina then looked at David, who was hiding behind Bernard, and smiled mildly. "What? Weren't you very arrogant just now? Why are you suddenly a coward? Come out and talk to me. Don't be a bully who only targets nice people."

David stammered, "I... I just don't want to talk to you." He couldn't meet Selina's gaze.

Bernard banged his hand on the table. "Selina! How dare you bully my son in front of me? Susie, this is your daughter-in-law! Are you two ganging up on the Baxter family?"

Selina pulled up a chair, sat down, crossed her legs, and folded her arms. "What? Just because you're older doesn't mean you're invincible. I'm not scared of you." Her commanding presence intimidated Bernard, making him realize his outburst had been ineffective. He felt utterly at a loss.

Selina continued, "There's an old saying about spoiling children. You're a perfect example. Are you proud that your son is a gambler who relies on his parents? And you had the nerve to slam your hand on the table? Honestly, I'm ashamed for you."

Bernard began, "But... you shouldn't have—"

Selina interrupted, "Don't worry. I hired professionals. I hear since David's hand was injured, he's been much quieter and hasn't gambled. Is this true?"

Bernard's lips twitched. "Well... yes. You told everyone in the business that anyone who lends David money and isn't repaid can get triple interest if they… injure his hand. No one dares lend him money."

Selina said, "Isn't that good? His hand is reconnected, though its function may not be fully restored. Otherwise, he'd be gambling daily and causing trouble. He needed a lesson."

Bernard was stunned. "You're twisting logic! Reconnected? That's a hand!" He couldn't believe her callousness.

Selina narrowed her eyes. "Twisting logic? Let him deal with his own problems. Don't drag his sister into this. If it weren't for Susie, he'd be on the streets. He's only so cocky because she supports him. He's lived off her like a parasite. You spoiled him."

Bernard was speechless. Nora intervened, "Grandpa, I respect you, but Uncle David has gone too far. You know how much money Mom has given him. Does she deserve this?"

David shouted, "Shut up! You're not a Baxter! If my parents hadn't adopted Susie, she wouldn't have anything. I deserve her money!"

Selina stared coldly. "Wow, suddenly brave. Come closer. I will beat you up."

David recoiled, silent.

Nora said, "Speaking of the adoption, you raised her. She should respect you, but she doesn't owe her brother anything. She's paid millions for him. Why do you keep using this to ask Susie for money? Do you think she's an ATM?"

Bernard said, "I never thought of it that way."

Nora continued, "Why didn't you say anything when your son asked her for money? He used his hand as collateral. He's an adult. Shouldn't he be responsible?"

Bernard was speechless. He knew David had erred, but he was his only son. He wanted to discipline him slowly. He'd thought Susie should help. David's injury had heartbroken him.

Hearing Selina's words, Bernard, now subdued, pleaded with her to be less cruel.

Nora leaned forward. "Two years ago, you were hospitalized. Your son barely visited before heading to the casino. Your wife was unwell. It was Susie who cared for you! She even covered your losses from that barbecue store investment with her championship prize money. She only asked Mr. Brady for money to help pay off your son's debts!"
