Chapter 144
Before Lloyd could speak, Selina abruptly swerved, the Lamborghini's wheels catching in the drainage channel. The car scraped against the mountain wall's railing, showering sparks. Sheltered by Lloyd's GTR, the Lamborghini unexpectedly surged forward, overtaking him and accelerating. Lloyd gasped, utterly astonished.
He couldn't believe anyone could drive a Lamborghini so fast, especially while shielded by the GTR's bulk. Selina was risking her life! It was beyond comprehension.
Lloyd breathed deeply as Selina's Lamborghini navigated five consecutive hairpin turns and sped toward the finish line. Both cars were top-tier, but despite Lloyd's perfectly modified GTR, Selina's original Lamborghini, while slightly less powerful, overtook the GTR within seconds from several thousand feet.
Selina won, a stunning upset. No one anticipated she could defeat the world's most powerful racing champion. The Lamborghini executed an inertial brake, leaving a long black skid mark and emitting a triumphant roar.
Selina exited, then willingly opened the door for Nora, assisting the visibly frightened and pale woman from the car. Compassionately, Selina asked, "Nora, do you feel nauseous? Don't suppress it; letting it out might help."
"Selina, I'm sorry... I..." Nora couldn't contain herself, running to the bushes to vomit, abandoning all pretense of ladylike decorum. The embarrassment was palpable; she had requested the passenger seat.
The other cars quickly approached the finish line. Caleb reached Lloyd's GTR. Lloyd exited, immediately going to Selina. "Selina, are you insane? Did you realize you almost died?"
Selina glared. "How dare you scold the champion? I'm impressed! Such shameless accusations! You intentionally blocked me, hindering my overtake. Instead of admitting it, you accuse me? Were you trying to harm me to win? I didn't want to accuse, but now..."
Drivers often blocked tracks to prevent others from passing. While tracks accommodated three or four cars abreast, Ravencrest Mountain's narrow roads allowed only two. Selina was disgusted by Lloyd's tactics.
Lloyd fell silent, shaken. An accident would have killed them both.
Caleb exclaimed, "Selina, that was reckless! Even wanting to beat Lloyd, you can't endanger your life! You could have harmed others!" Caleb's fear was evident; the drone footage showed Selina narrowly avoiding collisions multiple times due to her excessive speed. He wondered if she was fearless or simply oblivious.
"I'm not like you two losers. I was confident. Don't worry; I value my life," Selina retorted, turning and leaving Lloyd and the others stunned.
Chapter 148
Selina's daring move was life-threatening. Even a world champion would have hesitated; yet, she acted with unwavering confidence. How?
A figure suddenly flashed in Lloyd's mind. Selina seemed familiar. Her racing skills evoked memories of the Flying Shadow. He recalled the Flying Shadow's back vividly, but wasn't sure. Could Selina be the Flying Shadow?
Lloyd shook his head. If true, Selina would have been only eighteen at the time. Such an achievement at that age seemed impossible. He dismissed the thought.
Selina's victory surprised everyone. A globally recognized jewelry designer, Angel, her beauty and talent captivated all. Rumors of her relationship with Trevon, Insight Group's CEO, abounded. Her win over Lloyd propelled her to the top of trending lists, benefiting the race organizers. The awards were announced: Selina, champion; Lloyd and Caleb, second and third.
The three stood together, a peculiar sight. Selina, at the highest point, surveyed the scene. As the audience celebrated, champagne sprayed, accidentally splashing Lloyd and Caleb. They wondered if it was deliberate but politely moved, maintaining smiles to avoid seeming petty.
During the trophy presentation, the organizer brought others close for photos with Selina. Lloyd's face darkened after the photo; he left hurriedly.
Manuel sympathized with Lloyd's loss, recalling his own overconfidence at the Sokovis Jewelry Design Contest, believing only Derrick was a threat, only to be defeated by Selina. The humiliation was painful.
Caleb looked at Lloyd worriedly. After his first loss to Selina, he'd woken in the hospital, pondering his failure. Selina was like a spell, leaving them with unforgettable defeat. Lloyd said, "Check the video."
Manuel and Caleb looked blank.
Lloyd went to the organizer's lounge, replaying the drone footage. Selina's driving style was conventional. Though often trailing, she never fell far behind the leaders, despite her inferior car's performance. She knew her car, lacking in linear horsepower, couldn't match Lloyd's GTR.
Selina's strategy was to stay close and seize an opportunity. From the start, she aimed to surpass Lloyd in the hairpin turns.
