Chapter 31

When Nora heard the voice, she looked twice, her gaze snapping to its source. There stood a woman, decked out in shiny designer clothes, her hair a vibrant shade of red. The woman stared at Nora, dramatically covering her bright red lips with her hands, looking utterly shocked.

Once certain she hadn't mistaken Nora for someone else, the woman approached, giddy with excitement. "Oh my gosh, it's actually you, Nora! I thought I'd gotten you mixed up with someone else!" She threw an arm around Nora as if they were longtime friends.

Nora mumbled to herself, "I kind of wish you had…"

"What was that? You'll have to speak up," the woman said, drawing closer.

Nora rolled her eyes. She almost groaned aloud. Seriously, how clueless can you be? Are you deaf?

"Hey, Nora, is this your sister? Hi, I'm Jennifer," Jennifer introduced herself to Selina, barely acknowledging her while keeping her eyes fixed on Nora. She then asked Nora, "How's Trevon been? Haven't seen him in ages. I miss the guy." Nora gave Jennifer a strange look. "She's not my sister; she's my sister-in-law—Trevon's wife."

"What are you saying, Nora? You're pulling my leg, right? How in the world could Trevon be married, just like that? Haha, you're a real riot…" Jennifer's laugh sounded as artificial as a cheap wig, straight out of an old television show. Selina barely suppressed a laugh. Here in the 21st century, and she still encounters people living in the past. No wonder Nora disliked Jennifer.

"I'm dead serious. She really is Trevon's wife. Trevon's married—officially," Nora stated, maintaining a straight face.

Jennifer's eyes finally flickered to Selina.

Taking a leisurely sip of her orange juice, Selina interjected, "Yep, that's me. Don't mind me. You two catch up."

"Oh, come on! This has to be a joke!" Jennifer's face contorted in disbelief, looking almost comical. "No way I missed the news. I just can't believe it!" Her eyes sharpened as she assessed Selina. Darn it! This Clusian woman is drop-dead gorgeous. The realization filled her with envy. If Trevon married her, does that mean he isn't into my international vibe and prefers a Clusian look? Man, I really misread this whole thing! she thought.

Selina remained composed, refusing to give Jennifer any satisfaction. Internally, however, she planned her response. Typical Trevon, always in the middle of some soap opera. She'd anticipated something like this, but the prospect of facing jealous women because of her sham marriage to Trevon made her head pound. A small part of her wanted to retaliate—perhaps have him deal with some of her admirers for a change. That is, if she had any.

"Forget about her, Selina. Let's grab a bite," Nora said, trying to remain calm and steer Jennifer away before she upset Selina further. "Jennifer, we're trying to eat. Can you please be quiet for a second?"

"How in the world did Trevon fall for you? Who are you, anyway? I'm Jennifer Grant from the Grant Group! I'm part Clusian and part Mumzikian—plus, I'm the latest violin sensation. There's no way Trevon would've passed me over for you…"

"I'm just a regular girl. No crazy background. But you know what? I'm beautiful—way more than you. My man fell hard for this face and the person behind it. That's the long and short of it," Selina retorted, her laid-back demeanor making it clear she wouldn't cater to Jennifer's ego. A pretty face can seal the deal.

"No fancy story? Regular? Beautiful! You're kidding, right?" Jennifer snapped, standing so abruptly that the table wobbled. She glared at Selina. "Let's be real, Trevon's not that superficial. You think just because you're easy on the eyes, you'd be the one for Trevon—" At that moment, Selina's half-empty glass of orange juice sailed through the air, landing squarely in Jennifer's face.

"Are you kidding me?" Jennifer squeaked as the cold juice sent shivers down her spine. The entire café stared, their expressions a mixture of amusement, gossip, and shock. Even Nora was taken aback by Selina's bold move.

"Listen up," Selina said calmly, drying her hands with a napkin and staring down the drenched Jennifer. "Nora and I were enjoying our dinner until you showed up. No one invited you. I was nice because of Nora, not because of you. And keep it down, will you? Why are you banging on tables and meddling in my business with Trevon? It's not like he needs your permission. You're acting like you're someone important, but you're not! You're a nobody."

"You… you're calling me a nobody?! Who do you think you—" Fuming, Jennifer could barely contain herself. Her expensive outfit was ruined, and she was publicly humiliated. No way would Trevon go for someone this rude. This must be some trick Trevon's playing!

"Cut it out, Jennifer. Get lost—now! Why are you messing with Selina?" Nora stood, her own drink in hand, and Jennifer retreated. She suddenly realized she was facing Nora Brady, Trevon's sister, and didn't dare provoke her.

Chapter 11

"What's going on here? Is everyone alright?" The café manager, Evan, rushed over after hearing the commotion. He caught sight of Nora, daughter of the Brady family, and Jennifer, daughter of the Grant Group's boss, and wished he could disappear. These were VIPs, far beyond his pay grade.

"I… I have a gig to prepare for," Jennifer mumbled before hurrying out. You got this one, Selina, she fumed silently, unwilling to create a scene in front of Nora. But there's no way Trevon likes a girl like you. In your dreams!

Irritated, Nora gave Evan a hard look. "This is supposed to be a top spot in Sokovis, but you sure have an interesting choice in performers." She didn't usually snap like that, but Jennifer had truly crossed a line.
