Chapter 44
Selina was stunned. "Worried about me?" Trevon should have told you about Susie's family. Susie, a remarkable woman, is a Michelin three-star chef, achieving this through sheer determination. I admire her unwavering spirit.
"However, as one of Sokovis's wealthiest families, the Bradys place significant importance on lineage. Susie faces considerable hardship within the family, and I strive to shield her from their influence. But sometimes, you must confront what you cannot avoid. You were once Quinton and Sara's daughter, but having severed ties, you now rely on no one. Susie fears you'll be hurt by other family members."
Selina was speechless, a faint smile hidden behind lowered eyes. "I understand. Thank you for Mrs. Brady's concern, Mr. Brady. I know what to do."
Trevon said lightly, "Dad, don't worry. No one dares bully her."
"It would be different if Selina didn't bully others. Trevon, you're the youngest Brady family head in history. Many admire you, but many also envy and seek to undermine you. If Selina is with you, she'll be vulnerable to those seeking to harm you. You're a man, her husband; you must protect her. Don't be like me."
"I will. She's my wife. I'll protect her for life." A faint smile played on Trevon's lips as he leaned closer, taking Selina's hand and intertwining their fingers.
Selina smiled. "I'm relieved to hear that, honey."
After bidding Samuel farewell, Selina and Trevon drove home. "You did well tonight. Dad, Susie, and Nora all like you."
Selina remained silent, lost in thought as she gazed out the window. Trevon leaned closer, inhaling the scent of jasmine in her hair. He whispered, "What's on your mind? You seem so deep in thought. It makes me wonder about the similarities in our fates—it's hardly surprising someone as unfortunate as myself exists."
Selina smiled wryly. "Susie's family is also a mess. Despite our different experiences, I feel a kinship with her."
"Susie cares too much about others' feelings, causing her pain. You're different, honey. I admire your decisiveness. If Susie were like you, she might be happier."
Selina sighed. Decisive? Yes, to outsiders, her current life appeared decisive. Who would guess her past foolishness, even risking her life? Not everyone is lucky enough to have a second chance like Selina. To sever ties with the Harveys, she unexpectedly flash-married Trevon and left the Harvey residence—something unimaginable before.
A new life beckoned.
Chapter 44
Trevon, captivated by Selina, murmured, "Honey, your eyes are so beautiful."
Selina smiled, "Thank you, honey. You're very handsome."
The next day, Selina drove to meet Malcolm to discuss the lawsuit. With his help, she'd win, but her cooperation was needed for certain details. Manuel would pay dearly! He wouldn't treat her like the submissive fool who once craved her family's approval.
At Malcolm's hotel, Selina encountered Sara and Ashley. Sara hesitated, clearly surprised. Selina smiled contemptuously, recognizing their intentions immediately, and walked past without acknowledgement.
Ashley grabbed Selina's hand. "Selina, please don't be angry! If this continues, Manuel will…"
Selina deftly dodged Ashley's grasp. "Don't touch me; I find you repulsive."
Ashley's eyes filled with tears. "I'm sorry! You can be angry, ignore me, but don't destroy Manuel!"
Sara intervened, "Selina, that's enough! Ashley's your sister! To ruin Manuel and insult Ashley… are you even human?"
"Mrs. Harvey, when you scold me, remember I have nothing to do with the Harveys. They're strangers. Manuel wronged me; he's my enemy. As for your precious Ashley, she's nothing to me! I hate her! Stay away from me!"
Selina entered the hotel. Sara trembled with rage. What an unfortunate family! A cold-blooded daughter? She'd even sent her own brother to prison! The daughter Sara had worked so hard to find… if she'd known Selina would bring such ruin… she'd have left her to die.
Chapter 44
Ashley, eyes red, clung to Sara. "Mommy, what do we do? I don't want Manuel jailed. Let's find Malcolm. We need a solution."
Sara had bribed Malcolm to prevent Manuel's downfall, a dangerous but necessary gamble. Quinton was desperately searching for a lawyer to counter Malcolm; Sara, to spare him further exhaustion, had secretly come with Ashley. But their attempt ended in humiliating rejection by Selina.
