Chapter 42

Cumming traced Cameron's warning, pressing herself cautiously against his chest and breathing softly. Her body was soft and fragrant.

"Mr. Sutton," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

He responded with a low hum. Her shower, giving off an almost irresistible…

Quinn hesitantly tried to confirm their arrangement. "You'll lend me the money, right? I can't get that half million to pay off my dad's gambling debts; those people won't leave him alone."

Cameron's expression faltered. He realized she needed such a large sum to save someone, and he couldn't help but wonder what Quinn had done in a past life to deserve such… this life.

"Don't worry about it now. Just sleep," he replied, his voice suddenly gentle.

Quinn was stunned. She found it hard to believe they were just going to sleep. She tried to look up at him for confirmation, but his large hand firmly held her head in place.

"Move again, and I promise you won't be getting any sleep," he warned.

Quinn knew he meant it, so she stayed perfectly still against his chest. The clock read 2 AM. The sky was already lightening, and after the long night, Quinn was truly exhausted. Within minutes, she drifted into a deep sleep.

When she woke up, the room was still dim, though Cameron was nowhere to be seen. She opened the heavy blackout curtains, letting in bright sunlight that made her squint. Then, she headed to the bathroom to freshen up.

As Quinn headed downstairs, she found Cameron sitting on the couch, drinking coffee. Across from him sat a familiar but aged figure. Quinn gasped in disbelief when the figure turned to face her.

"You're up," Cameron asked her.

James stood up from the couch, his expression full of emotion. Despite the shock, Quinn knew what she was seeing was real. The man before her, with graying hair, a weary expression, and visible bruises, was undoubtedly her father. However, she couldn't understand what he was doing there.

"Dad," Quinn called out hesitantly, feeling uncertain about their relationship, which had grown distant over the years.

"Quinn, my sweet girl. I knew I could count on you to come through when it really mattered, just like I did for you when you were younger. You didn't forget about your old man, and you managed to get me out."

He was clearly thrilled to see his daughter, now a grown woman. As his eyes fell on the man's shirt she was wearing, he immediately understood the nature of her relationship with the man sitting across from him.
