Chapter 45
“Are you related to the patient?” The medical staff looked at me. I shook my head. “I’m just an acquaintance. If you need anything, you can contact his father.”
In the ambulance, Julian suddenly sat up, distraught. “Serena, you lied to me. You led me to believe—”
“Is the patient going to be okay?” I ignored Julian.
The medical staff shook her head. “It doesn’t look too serious. He’s just lost a lot of blood and will merely need a blood transfusion. If you’re his family member, please come with us to the hospital.”
“His family has other things to attend to,” I denied again. “I’m not. Please contact his family.”
Without paying attention to Julian’s shouts, I turned and headed back to campus. On the way, I kept thinking about what Julian said—Alex was targeting the Blakes. What an absurd claim! Only Julian would say something like that.
I didn’t notice the other students pointing and whispering until their discussions grew too loud to ignore.
“So that’s Serena? What a sight!”
I reached the field, where many students were gathered. Their expressions were harsh.
“Exactly. How heartless can a person be? Even if it’s a stranger, you can’t just leave someone to die like that! She’s just relying on her status as an heiress. People like her really know how to put on an act.”
I was utterly confused. I had no idea what they were talking about.
At that moment, my phone rang. It was Lila, asking me to hurry back to the dormitory. When I arrived, I found her anxiously pacing. “Serena, did you go see Julian?” Lila asked.
I was shocked. “How do you know?”
“Check the campus forum,” she said, handing me her phone with the forum page open. She seemed on the verge of tears.
The trending topic was, “Serena Ashford coldly insults Julian Blake, leading him to attempt suicide.”
I was incredibly surprised. I pointed and said, “This video was edited. Someone’s framing me.”
Lila said anxiously, “You need to think about how to clear this up. If you don’t handle this properly, you might not even be able to graduate.”
I fell deep into thought. Just as I was trying to figure out how to solve this, my phone rang. The caller ID displayed Dean Justin Herbs.
“It’s the dean,” I said to Lila, accepting the call.
Lila sank into a chair. I let out a long sigh. “Hold on…”
Lila looked pale. “We need to go to the office. It seems this has already reached his ears. He might even be facing some external pressure.” “What should we do? Mr. Herbs always acts like he’s the king of the world. Serena, this might not be easy to resolve.”
I stood up. “I’m in. I’ll go to the office first. After that, I’ll figure out how to prove my innocence.”
