Chapter 47

Justin's anger flared. "What kind of logic is that? Past scandals don't mean we can simply let the university's reputation suffer!"

Lila said, "But if Serena reports this to the police and the truth comes out, wouldn't that clear her name?"

Justin's anger intensified. He glared at Lila. "This matter will be handled as I said. I warn you, if you continue—"

Lila was about to retort when I quickly grabbed her arm. I was already in a difficult situation; I couldn't drag Lila down with me.

"Let me figure it out," I said, holding Lila tightly to prevent her from speaking.

Peter stepped forward. "If you truly can't resolve this, bring your guardian. We can discuss the situation together."

I nodded, unhappy but still dragging Lila out after thanking him.

"Serena, Justin is clearly abusing his power," Lila said angrily.

I understood perfectly but had no choice but to swallow my pride; he held all the power here. I couldn't let Lila get involved. Silent, I sighed. "What are you going to do now? Why don't you call Alex? Let him help you."

Lila sneered. "Alex just loves to suck up to the rich and powerful while trampling on the weak. If he shows up, he'll be groveling before Justin."

I vehemently opposed that idea. First, I didn't want to burden Alex with everything. Second, I didn't want him to see me in such a sorry state. I couldn't even explain why.

I shook my head. "Let me handle this myself first. If I can't, then we'll talk about it."

"So, what's your plan?" Lila asked, worry etched on her face.

"I'll start by asking the restaurant for surveillance footage," I replied.

Lila responded, "I'll go with you."

At the restaurant, the manager pointed out the cameras. "I'm sorry, miss. None of the cameras were filming that table."

Indeed, none of the surveillance cameras faced the table Julian and I had been sitting at.

"Could you help me find any of the diners who were sitting near us?" I pleaded.

But the manager replied, "I'm sorry, miss. We can't disclose information about our guests if it could harm them."

Frowning, I looked at the staff. "What do you mean?"

The manager shrugged, a mocking smile on their face. "This matter has caused quite a stir. Anyone who helps you might find themselves attacked by public opinion. How are we supposed to keep our business running if we expose our guests to that?"

I simply felt a pang of bitter disappointment. "Has it become so hard to find someone who will tell the truth in today's society?"

Lila sighed. "There's no surveillance footage and no eyewitnesses. Serena, what do we do now?"
