Chapter 49

Cedric looked at Alfred coldly and asked, “Why are you here?”

Alfred replied, “I had nothing to do, so I decided to come over and accompany you.”

“Well, you can leave now,” Cedric said, walking away.

However, Alfred followed him. “Don’t be so heartless. I don’t want to leave yet.” He shamelessly peered into Cedric’s plastic bag. “Chocolates and sweets? Are these for Noelle’s period?”

Cedric said coldly, “That’s right.”

“If I hadn’t seen it myself, I wouldn’t believe you were buying women’s products—with chocolates and sweets, at that. How considerate,” Alfred remarked. After all, Cedric had never been gentle or attentive to anyone of the opposite sex since childhood. Girls had always pursued Cedric.

“Be mindful, and don’t scare her,” Cedric instructed before returning to the apartment. He knocked on the bathroom door. “I’m back with the goods.”

Noelle opened the door slightly, her face reddening at his voice. She reached out slender hands.

Cedric handed her the plastic bag; her hand sank from its weight. She wondered how many items he had bought.

She closed the door, smiling at the various brands of sanitary pads inside. He probably didn’t know which type she used, so he bought them all.

After changing, Noelle emerged to find a man sitting on the couch. She didn’t recognize him and felt awkward.

Alfred waved. “Hello, kiddo! I’m Cedric’s friend.”

“Oh, it’s you.” Noelle remembered staying at his apartment. He’d helped them leave the restaurant and evict Frank and Xenia.

Alfred asked, “Did Cedric mention me? Anything bad?”

“No. I just wanted to thank you for letting me stay.”

Alfred smiled. “Don’t worry. I have many houses, so I won’t drop by often.”

Cedric emerged from the kitchen with hot chocolate, handing it to Noelle.

Noelle was shocked. She’d never expected such consideration. Holding the warm cup, she said, “Thank you.”

Cedric’s expression remained nonchalant. “Once you’ve finished, you can rest in your room.”

Noelle nodded, slowly sipping. Her body felt much better. She lowered her gaze; it had been so long since someone showed her such kindness.

She stole a glance at Cedric. He was probably treating her well out of pity. After all, she’d shamelessly insisted on finishing her homework in the school infirmary.

Noelle recalled that day in the restaurant, Cedric dining with a beautiful woman. He probably had many women in his life. He was much older than her and very handsome. It was natural women would pursue him.

Noelle averted her gaze, packed her things in the study, and returned to the unit next door.

Once Noelle left, Alfred teased, “Ced, don’t you think you’re treating her a bit too well?”

“You talk too much.”

“I’m just reminding you. Are you underestimating your effect on women? Most won’t be able to help themselves, especially with your treatment. What if she develops feelings for you?”

Alfred had noticed Noelle’s look at Cedric. It was clear there was something there; he could easily read a young woman’s thoughts.

Cedric sat on the couch. “She has someone she likes.”

“Who?”

“She didn’t say.”

Alfred scoffed. “If that’s the case, you have a problem. There’s a high chance that person is you.”

Cedric pursed his lips. “Don’t say such nonsense.”

“I’m just pointing out the possibility. I don’t want to see you entangled with her when you haven’t resolved your feelings. There are plenty of ways to help her, but aren’t you crossing a line with your support?”

Cedric replied, “You don’t know this, but she’s had a tough life with the Liddells.”
