Chapter 51

Noelle subconsciously frowned at the sound of Xenia’s voice. Xenia, already under Noelle’s umbrella, held her bag over her head to shield herself from the rain. She put on an innocent expression and said, “I lent my umbrella to a classmate. Could we share?”

“No,” Noelle said, turning and walking away without looking at Xenia.

Xenia stood there in disbelief, quickly getting soaked. She couldn’t believe Noelle had dared to refuse her help in front of so many people!

Her expression darkened. Initially, she’d wanted to use this opportunity to mend their relationship. She’d noticed the changes in Frank and Lucas, filling her with worry. She wondered if she’d still have a place with the Liddells if they reconciled with Noelle and persuaded her to return home. Hence, she’d decided to try to make amends.

Xenia never expected Noelle to reject her outright. However, since that was the case, she felt Noelle shouldn’t blame her for being cruel.

Alfred watched from inside the black luxury car. “Nelly seems to have quite the temper. She just rejected that girl without hesitation.”

Cedric’s gaze was dark. “One cannot be too kind.”

Xenia was behind most of Noelle’s suffering. Though her brothers might be blind to it, he knew Xenia wasn’t a simple girl.

When Noelle reached her classroom, she hung her umbrella at the back. After a while, Xenia entered, completely drenched and looking pitiful.

Even Lionel couldn’t help but ask, “Xenia, did you not bring an umbrella today? Why are you so drenched? You’ll catch a cold.”

Xenia’s complexion was pale. “I’ll be fine.”

Betty immediately exclaimed, “It’s all because Noelle abandoned Xenia and kept her umbrella! She’s horrible!”

Noelle’s expression was filled with frustration. They were attacking her again.

Before she could speak, Rachel Clark, the class president, retorted, “I saw Xenia give her umbrella to someone else. She then demanded Noelle share hers. Noelle wasn’t willing, and I don’t see anything wrong with that.”

Betty quickly fought back, “It was pouring! Even if Noelle wasn’t willing to share, she shouldn’t have left Xenia in the rain.”

Rachel retorted, “But Xenia could have shared with the person she lent her umbrella to. Why did she insist on squeezing under Noelle’s? She knew Noelle disliked her but still made things difficult. Then she accuses Noelle of abandoning her. Who’s really overstepping and trying to guilt-trip others?”

Rachel’s firm words were clear and logical. However, Noelle was puzzled that Rachel, a witness, had stood up for her. After all, she’d never had friends before.

Betty was speechless. “Regardless, it was wrong of Noelle to abandon Xenia.”

Xenia never thought anyone would speak for Noelle, who was always isolated. With an understanding expression, she turned to Lionel. “Mr. Kramer, I’m fine. It’s a misunderstanding.”

Lionel coughed and didn’t question them further. “Alright then. Let’s start today’s lesson.”

Xenia stood awkwardly, fuming. She hadn’t expected Lionel to drop the matter so easily. She cursed inwardly, wondering why things hadn’t gone as planned.

During break, Noelle went to the restroom. Emerging from a stall, she overheard Betty badmouthing her.

When Noelle appeared, the girls by the sink fell silent.

Betty said sarcastically, “Some people act high and mighty after doing something wrong. They think they’re untouchable because they’re rich!” She flicked water at Noelle.

Noelle was already in a bad mood because of her period, and Betty was testing her limits. She kicked a bucket toward Betty, making her shriek. “What do you think you’re doing?”

Noelle looked at her coldly. “If I catch you doing this again, I’ll shove that dirty water down your throat and wash that filthy mouth of yours!”
