Chapter 94
Noelle smiled and knocked before leaving with her dress in hand.
After she left, Alfred said, "Ced, Nelly's an adult now. It's normal for her to dress up and look pretty. After all, she's growing up and will eventually date and get married. You can't keep her stuck in some old-fashioned mold forever. What if some smooth-talking guy sweeps her off her feet?"
Cedric's patience finally snapped, and he kicked Alfred.
But Alfred had anticipated his move and leaped away in time. "Didn't you say that she already has a crush on someone? Maybe it's one of her classmates. Who knows—they might end up all lovey-dovey in college."
"!" Cedric rubbed his temples. He was annoyed.
Noelle arrived at the salon in a cab.
Shortly after, Rachel stepped out of the cab, too. "Noelle, are you sure this salon is reliable? I've never even heard of it."
"A friend recommended it to me. It should be fine."
Noelle had invited Rachel along as her plus-one for the event once the invitation allowed her to bring a companion of any gender.
Noelle entered the salon and approached the receptionist. "Alfred Pasham referred me."
"Ms. Liddell, we've been expecting you. Mr. Pasham already called ahead. Please, come in with your friend."
Noelle settled into a chair and waited for the stylists to start working on her hair and makeup.
Rachel was just beside her. "Noelle, the forum trolls are outrageous. And Xenia even liked some of their comments. Now, everyone thinks some wealthy benefactor backs you. Frankly, your brothers should come forward to clear things up."
Noelle remained composed. "It doesn't matter anymore. I used to envy you for having so many brothers. But now I see that they all favor Xenia. Who needs brothers like that?"
Noelle peered at her reflection in the mirror. She didn't care anymore.
In this life, she had finally broken free from the Liddell family and was living independently. That was enough.
Several hours later, her transformation was complete.
Noelle slipped into her dress and looked at herself in the mirror. She felt like a different person.
Rachel pulled out her phone and snapped a few photos. "Noelle, you're gorgeous when you dress up. You were overshadowed before because of Xenia constantly putting you down." The two took a few selfies together before Noelle checked the time. "Let's go."
Noelle noticed many high-class cars at the hotel, and reporters were already waiting there.
Rachel felt nervous. "I've never been to an event like this. I've only seen them on TV. If you hadn't brought me, I'd probably just be working as a crew member with my brother and wouldn't have had the chance to walk in from the main entrance."
Noelle, feeling nervous herself, pretended to be relaxed. "There's no need to be nervous. We have invitations to be here."
They exited the cab and adjusted their dresses before heading toward the check-in area. Before they reached the entrance, they could see all the reporters rushing toward them.
Rachel looked over anxiously. "Who's here! Look at all the reporters rushing over!"
A luxury car pulled up, and the door opened to reveal Lucas and Xenia stepping out. Xenia wore a stunning evening gown. She wore an emerald necklace and an emerald bracelet, looking like a socialite heiress.
Noelle recognized the jewelry Xenia was wearing. Those were the same pieces she had given Xenia as an apology gift when she was rebuked. They were given to her by her brothers when they were younger. The jewelry drew the media's attention. The jewelry she was wearing were antiques and worth quite a lot. They now belonged to Noelle since Noelle let the Liddell family keep them.
A reporter directed a question at Lucas. "Mr. Lucas, many are rumored to believe that Ms. Sweetly is actually your younger sister, Noelle. Is that true?" Of all the questions they could ask, why this one?
