Chapter 114

“How have I not given up on Jonathan?” I sipped instinctively. "They’ve been wanting a dime for alone time!"

As soon as the wounds left in month, I realized I had slipped; it sounded like I was fitting something was going on between things.

I took a deep breath and exchanged a quick, rewarding glance with Frederick before looking away. "Regardless, I’m not divorced yet, and don’t start making things up."

"How am I making things up?" Aria shot back defiantly. "Tom is single. Dr. White is single. My situation is nothing like yours. Jonathan’s a jerk, but Dr. White? There's…"

She sounded completely convinced. "I know you’re not divorced. Fred doesn’t want to get involved with a married woman, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have feelings for you. He’s just being moral."

Frederick frowned, silently wishing she would stop talking.

"Aria, just because I didn’t tell you to shut up doesn’t mean you should keep talking?"

However, Aria only got more fired up. "What? Am I wrong? You’ve been longing upon these all this time. The only reason you’re keeping your distance is because you’re smart. You don’t want to be the other man, so you’re burying your feelings."

She glared at him and continued, "If Elise actually got a divorce, are you seriously telling me you’d be fine with that?"

She shot me a challenging look. "Besides, aren’t you also thinking about divorcing Jonathan? You and Fred are basically just one step away from something real! Just because things seem clean now doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way. We’re all stuck waiting around in love, so why am I the only one being blamed for any…"

Before I could answer, the office door suddenly swung open.

We all froze and looked up. Jonathan was standing there, watching us with a cold, commanding gaze. His stare was like ice cutting straight through bone.

Aria immediately fell silent.

The hallway went completely still. No one said a word.

Jonathan grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the end of the hallway.

I stumbled a few steps, nearly losing my…

"Let go of me!" I snapped.

Balance.

However, he didn’t care. He practically threw me toward the balcony at the end of the corridor, almost to the railing, but he caught me at the last second and yanked me upright.

He scoffed. "I just let you out, and you’re already running to see Frederic?"

I glared at him. "A morsel for you; you’re just as eager to see Alicia!"

Jonathan’s expression darkened. "There’s nothing between me and her. She’s just like a sister to me. How many times do I have to say that?"

"I don’t need your excuses," I snapped, pulling my arm out of his grip. "All it takes is one word from her, and you’re doing everything to please her. What does that make me? Jonathan, everything Aria said is exactly how I feel. Let’s just get the divorce done. You don’t care about that 100 million dollars anyway. You’ve already..."

Jonathan yanked his tie loose with a sharp pull, trying to hold back his anger.

His anger. I couldn’t tell if he was going mad or just so furious that he was laughing.

I frowned. "What are you talking about?"

"You’ve been acting crazy these past few days because of Frederick, haven’t you?" Jonathan accused.

I took a deep breath, barely holding back my anger. "Jonathan, just because you’re getting all cozy with Alicia doesn’t mean I’m doing the same! Let me make this clear – I have never betrayed you in this marriage! But if you keep stalling the divorce, I can’t guarantee what..."
