A flicker of resentment flashed in his eyes.

“Do you—you told me, even when you’re on the phone?”

“I mean, I should be able to go when I want without having to explain it to you,” I replied.

He continued, “Every time you leave Fold Manor, the first thing you do is go to Frederick. What’s so great about him? Why do you keep going back to him?”

I could hear the mockery in his voice, but honestly, he had no right to question me.

“Rog? You spend all your free time with Alicia.”

Joatian tugged at his collar irritably. “I’ve explained this to you many times. There’s no need to keep repeating yourself. You should calm down.”

As soon as he was gone, I let out a deep breath. A sharp pain flared in my wrist.

The wound from my suicide attempt throbbed painfully. It was too deep and had hard stitches. Even a little water or a slight pull caused unbearable pain.

Enduring it for a moment, I decided to find a first-aid kit to change the dressing.

Hugh stood at the door and respectfully passed a message to me, “Mr. Ford won’t be returning to the master bedroom tonight.”

I gave a brief reply and didn't say anything else.

He paused, then walked in and frowned slightly. “Mr. Ford rarely stays out overnight. Don’t you want to ask what he’s doing?”

I was irritated by the pain in my wrist. “What he’s doing has nothing to do with me.”

Hugh shook his head helplessly. “What good will it do you to keep going against him like this?”

Hugh nodded. “Please wait here. I’ll bring it to you.”

I stood up and replied, “No, I’ll go with you.”

He certainly didn’t want to make a second trip. Hugh didn’t argue. I followed behind him.
