Chapter 170

“Given how much Jonathan cared about Alicia, he’ll definitely back whoever Alicia’s supporting,” Gabrielle said.

She paused, then glanced at me. She seemed worried that I’d be upset.

I smiled. “So what? I don’t even care about Jonathan now, let alone Alicia.”

“That being said, I still want you to be able to focus on your work,” Gabrielle replied, swiftly changing the topic. “Oh, right, didn’t you say you were going to start a company with Frederick?”

“We’re not there yet,” I said. “It’s just one project for now. Whether we can actually pull it off… we’ll have to wait and see.”

Gabrielle nodded, smiling. “If your company takes off one day, can I be your first employee?”

My eyes lit up. “Of course you can! Then you won’t have to keep putting up with Jonathan anymore. But…” I glanced at her, suddenly hesitating.

I knew her well. It must’ve taken her a lot of effort to land a job at Millenia Corporation. Even if Jonathan said he gave her a leg up because of me, I knew she was capable. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been promoted to manager in just a few years.

I clenched my fists. As much as I wanted her to join me, what if we couldn’t make it? What if I were destined to fail? Was I supposed to drag her down with me?

I couldn’t let that happen.

Perhaps sensing my hesitation, Gabrielle suddenly held my hand and said, “Starting today, you have to tell me whatever’s on your mind. If you don’t, I’ll be mad!”

“Alright, got it.” I smiled at her. “I hope I get to see the day you live off me.”

We both laughed.

Since she still had work that evening, I dropped her off at the company.

Frederick wanted to see me, so I went straight to La Doghouse.

Velvet seemed even more hostile toward me. From the moment I stepped in, she’d been glaring at me, like she didn’t even want me there.

But she was more restrained than last time. She didn’t say a word, nor did her expression give her away. She just silently led me to the private room.

“Mr. Guzman is upstairs today. He’s not on the ground floor,” she said curtly.

I nodded and followed behind her.

As if he were afraid of what Velvet might say, Spade hurried over once he spotted me. But when he saw her acting surprisingly civil, he looked a little confused.

When we reached the door to the private room, Velvet sneered.

“You’re really something else. I can’t believe you actually got the boss to publicly announce that you’re his god-sister. To think you’re still playing this game when you’re already grown adults!”

I flashed a smile at her. “Well, I learned from the best.”

As expected, that pushed her over the edge.

“Why can’t you control your husband and leave Mr. Guzman out of it?” she snarled. “You clearly know he-”

Before she could finish, the door to the private room swung open.

Frederick stood there, his expression cold as ice as he glanced at her.

“Velvet.”

She immediately fell silent.

“Have you forgotten what I told you before?” he asked coldly.

She lowered her head at once. “I’m sorry, boss.”

“If this happens again, you’re fired,” he said, his voice devoid of emotion.
