Chapter 125

The starting price for the emerald jewelry was 1.5 million. Someone bid 2 million. Freya was the second to raise her paddle: “2.3 million.” “2.5 million.” “3 million.”

When Raven didn’t bid, both Freya and Jessica breathed a sigh of relief. But just as Freya was about to raise her paddle again, Raven raised hers instead. “5 million.” “!?” The room was filled with surprised gasps, and Raven calmly put her paddle down.

Freya clenched her fist, thought for a moment, and then raised her paddle: “6 million.” “6.5 million.” “7 million.” At this point, Freya hesitated. Her grandmother’s 70th birthday was rare, and if she spent 8 million—

Just as she thought this, Raven raised her paddle again: “12 million.” Freya’s chest tightened. After catching her breath, she silently put her paddle down. Perhaps everyone had already witnessed Matteo’s immense wealth. By now, no one else seemed willing to bid any higher. The item was once again claimed by Raven.

The remaining lots were items that Freya didn’t desire. But since the auction house had a rule that no one could leave before the event ended, Freya had no choice but to stay in the auction hall.

Chapter 124

The remaining items were relatively expensive, and watching Matteo casually spend over 300 million that night, Jessica couldn’t help but comment, “Does Matteo still want to bid? Even if he has money, he can’t be spending it like this, can he? For that mistress, he’s really not holding back at all.”

Freya couldn’t answer those questions. However, the answer came soon enough: Matteo didn’t bid again. After the auction ended, Freya and Jessica left the hall. As they were leaving, Freya didn’t glance at Matteo again. But Jessica, who was paying attention to the other side, saw Rex walking over to Matteo and Raven, greeting them.

As Freya and Jessica walked out of the auction hall, an elder whom Jessica knew approached them. After some pleasantries, the elder’s gaze fell on Freya, and with a gentle tone, asked, “Jessie, this young lady looks unfamiliar. May I ask which family she’s from?”

Jessica proceeded to introduce Freya. The noblewoman listened, her smile fading slightly. “So, she’s the niece of Mr. Miller? She really is quite striking…”

The elder was somewhat familiar with the Miller family. She had heard that Mr. Miller’s sister had struggled emotionally in her youth and had been in poor mental health, mostly residing in a sanatorium over the years. Freya was so beautiful and seemed gentle in nature, and if her academic qualifications were decent, even if her mother had mental health issues, it wouldn’t be a major problem.

Unfortunately, the Miller family’s business had been on the decline for the past two years. Despite Jason’s continuous efforts for the company, the chances of Miller Corporation bouncing back were slim. With these two significant drawbacks, no matter how beautiful Freya was and how much the noblewoman liked her, she would never be able to enter her family’s door.

Such a pity… Though the noblewoman didn’t say anything directly, both Freya and Jessica could clearly sense her implication. The noblewoman still had more to say to Jessica, so they didn’t leave right away. At this point, Matteo, Raven, and Rex walked out of the auction hall.

Chapter 125

Rex reached out to Matteo and Raven. “I have something to attend to, I’ll leave first. Let’s chat next time.” Matteo nodded. “Next time.” Rex nodded and left with his friends.

As more people came to greet Matteo, he turned to face Freya. Their eyes met. Freya paused for a moment and turned her face away first. Matteo also withdrew his gaze and started talking to the people who had approached him.

Raven, noticing Matteo’s continued indifference toward Freya, slowly curved her lips into a smile. After talking for more than ten minutes, Jessica was getting thirsty. She and Freya went over to the drinks area to get something to wet their throats before leaving.

There weren’t many people over there, but just as Jessica was about to speak, a conversation suddenly caught their attention from the side. “Rex, what’s going on? Are you interested in Matteo’s girlfriend?” “I wouldn’t say interested, but… she is quite interesting.”

Freya and Jessica froze. It was Rex and his friend, though they were facing away from them and blocked by a row of drinks, so they didn’t notice Freya and Jessica. “During the auction, I saw you showing interest in the gentle beauty beside Jessica. Now, that beauty is probably still in the hall. Aren’t you going to go greet her?”

Freya hadn’t expected the conversation to suddenly turn to her. Before she could react, Jessica raised an eyebrow, about to play matchmaker and drag Freya over, but then she saw Rex shook his head and said with little enthusiasm, “No need.”

Jessica paused. “Huh? What’s going on? Suddenly lost interest?” Rex replied, “Hmm. That beauty is indeed pretty, but… she looks so gentle and quiet, lacking any real personality. Suddenly, I don’t find it interesting anymore.”

“Damn, and you say you’re not interested in Raven!” This was clearly after he’d spoken with Raven and found himself more intrigued by her, losing interest in the previous candidate. “It’s really not that… It’s just that—”

Rex paused for a moment, and his friend laughed. “I get it. So, Raven is your ideal type now, right? But this still indirectly shows that you’re interested in her, haha!” Rex didn’t reply immediately. His friend continued, “But honestly, Raven’s cold and proud demeanor is really more attractive and gives off that feeling of wanting to conquer her.”

“And ever since Raven appeared in the circle, quite a few people have been intrigued by her, some even obsessed with her. Unfortunately, she’s already with Matteo. I have to admit, Matteo has quite the eye for women.” Jessica’s smile immediately stiffened, and her face darkened.
