Chapter 152
Both grandmothers immediately showed concern. “Are you okay? Did you catch a cold?”
Freya wiped her nose with a tissue and said, “Maybe.” She might have caught a cold last night, but it hadn’t been obvious until now. Freya’s grandmother and Grandma Wilson had been friends for many years. However, neither mentioned the events at her birthday banquet or the issues involving Matteo and Raven. They just continued chatting happily.
After sitting for a while, Freya received a call from Jessica, who told her she had run into Matteo and the Brown family again. Jessica said, “I can’t believe I keep running into this kind of thing! I don’t want to deal with it!” Then she asked where Freya was.
Freya replied, “At my grandmother’s place.”
“Did you go back alone?”
“With Isabella and Grandma Wilson.”
Jessica immediately understood: “So, Matteo didn’t come back with you, but went to have dinner with the Brown family?”
Freya didn’t say anything. After hanging up, Freya sneezed again. Freya’s aunt, Harry, was worried she might be coming down with something, so she made her a bowl of ginger soup. After drinking it, Freya felt her head get heavier and, soon after, fell asleep.
When she woke up, she realized she had a high fever, and her head was spinning. Isabella approached her, looking somewhat concerned. “Mom, are you sick?”
Freya: “Mm.”
Grandma Wilson was also very worried and wanted to take her back to the Wilson family home so the family’s regular doctor could check on her, saying the old doctor would help her recover quickly.
Chapter 152
Freya’s grandmother felt that her sudden illness shouldn’t be delayed, so she insisted that Freya go back to the old Wilson family home for the doctor to see her.
Back at the old house, after the old doctor came and examined her, he prescribed some medicine, and after Freya drank a bowl of it, she went upstairs and fell asleep again.
When she woke up later, she felt much better; her head no longer felt as heavy. She opened her eyes and saw that the small lamp beside her was still on. Looking over, she saw Matteo sitting there, reading a book. She paused for a moment. Only then did she realize that she was in the old house, in Matteo’s room. This was the place where he had grown up.
Perhaps he heard some movement, and Matteo turned to look at her. “You’re awake?”
Freya felt her throat was a bit uncomfortable and wasn’t in the mood to talk. She didn’t respond. She grabbed a coat beside her, put it on, and was about to get out of bed, but Matteo walked over and handed her a cup of water.
Freya paused. After two seconds, she took it, but didn’t say thank you. Matteo didn’t say anything either. He reached out to touch her forehead, but Freya, feeling heavy-headed, reacted quickly and avoided his hand. Matteo looked at her for a moment, then retracted his hand and stood up.
“Mr. Stanley is still downstairs. I’ll have him come up to check on you.”
Without waiting for her to speak, he left the room. A few minutes later, Stanley, Grandma Wilson, Matteo, and Isabella all entered the room. Stanley examined Freya and said she was already feeling much better, but she still needed to continue taking the medicine. He said she was physically weak and had some emotional stagnation, so it was easy for her to fall ill when she caught a cold. She needed to take better care of her health.
Freya nodded.
Chapter 152
Grandma Wilson asked again, “Freya, are you hungry?” She hadn’t eaten much at lunch due to her discomfort and had gone to sleep afterward. Now, it was already close to evening, and she was indeed hungry, but didn’t have much of an appetite. But Grandma Wilson insisted she eat something, so she instructed Matteo to go downstairs and bring up food for Freya. Matteo turned and left the room. After a while, he returned with the food. Grandma Wilson and the elderly doctor left the room. Matteo, however, did not leave. He sat beside her as she ate, continuing to read his book—the same book she had read at the hot spring resort. Freya glanced over and noticed he hadn’t returned the book to her. She had not paid attention before, but now realized that he hadn’t returned the book to her. She furrowed her brow and said, “You—”
Matteo smiled and said, “I read it for half an hour that day and found some of your ideas quite interesting. They gave me new insights, so I took it to read whenever I had time.”
Freya pursed her lips and ignored him. She hadn’t had much of an appetite to begin with, and now it was worse. Matteo leaned on his hand and looked at her, saying, “After all these years, you still can’t argue properly?”
Freya turned her face away. Matteo sighed, saying, “Fine, I won’t be mad at you. Eat something.”
In the divorce agreement, she had explicitly stated that she didn’t want anything. There was no mention of property division or custody of Isabella. She thought he would notify her to pick up the divorce certificate soon. But since she left the divorce agreement and returned to the country, it’s been about three months, and he still hasn’t taken any action. Thinking of this, Freya raised her head and was about to ask him about it when there was a knock at the door.
