Chapter 165

Freya said, “You can wait and see. If it really fits, working with him isn’t a bad idea.” Johnny felt the same way. However, this made it harder for him to try to make things difficult for Harry, leaving him with a feeling of frustration and no outlet for his dissatisfaction.

Around 5 p.m., while Freya was still busy, her phone suddenly rang. Freya looked at the screen; it was another call from Isabella. In the past few days, Isabella hadn’t called her. Freya didn’t answer and continued with her tasks.

Two days later, on Friday morning, not long after Freya had gotten up, Isabella called again. Freya glanced at it, then put her phone down on the table and went into the kitchen to make breakfast. Seeing that Freya still didn’t answer, Isabella felt like throwing her phone out of frustration. But in the end, she restrained herself. Her eyes reddened slightly, and she lowered her head, eating her breakfast in small bites while speaking to Matteo, who was sitting across from her. “This is already the fourth time. Since last Saturday, I’ve called Mom four times, but she hasn’t picked up even once…”

Matteo said, “Then just wait a bit longer.”

She lost her appetite for breakfast: “What if Mom still doesn’t pick up?”

“Then just wait a bit longer. After some time, she’ll answer.”

Isabella listened, feeling a little better, and asked expectantly, “How long is ‘some time’?”

Matteo paused in his meal, then replied, “Within two weeks.”

Isabella’s mood dropped: “Two weeks? That’s still a long time!”

Matteo nodded: “Yes, it is a bit long.”

Isabella sighed: “… But I want to go out this weekend. Aunty Raven still hasn’t recovered from her injuries and can’t come with me. Dad, will you come with me instead?”

Matteo seriously discussed it with her: “Dad has a lot to do on Saturday, but I’ll be free on Sunday. If you want to go out on Saturday, you can go with Uncle Harry and Daisy.”

Isabella nodded: “Okay.” As long as she wasn’t going alone. Matteo made a call to Harry, asking him to take Isabella for a day. Harry agreed: “Sure.”

On Saturday, Harry took Isabella and Daisy to Disneyland. Disneyland had many fun attractions. However, no matter how interesting, magical, or thrilling the attractions were, Isabella seemed uninterested, unlike before when she would enjoy herself to the fullest. She appeared somewhat preoccupied. Harry gave each of them a sweet cone that he had bought. Looking at her, noticing the resemblance to Freya, he asked, “Isabella, are you not in a good mood today?”

Isabella was sitting on a swing, licking her ice cream in small bites while softly saying, “I miss Mom a little.”

Back when she was abroad, although sometimes she wouldn’t see her mom for two or three months, her mom would always call her every day and video chat. Recently, Mom had been busy with work, but whenever she called her every few days, her mom would always pick up and would rush home to cook for her. But now, she had been calling Mom, and Mom hadn’t answered a single time. This had never happened before.

Since the divorce agreement between Freya and Matteo was signed, and the custody of Isabella was given to Matteo, Harry, although he knew about it, didn’t know much about their current situation since the agreement was signed. When he heard Isabella say this, he didn’t know how to respond at first and just said, “Your mom definitely isn’t ignoring your calls on purpose. She might be too busy right now. It’ll be okay after a while.”

Isabella nodded: “Yeah, Dad said the same.” Harry paused and didn’t say anything else. Daisy, seeing that Isabella wasn’t in a good mood, tried to comfort her: “I also want to see Auntie, but Uncle said Auntie is busy recently and can’t make time. Adults are always so busy, but it’ll be okay after a while.”

Isabella nodded: “Okay.”

Although Harry hadn’t contacted Freya recently, it wasn’t because Freya was busy. He was just worried that the divorce would have a significant emotional impact on her. Moreover, since she didn’t have custody of Isabella, he was concerned that asking her to spend time with Daisy might trigger painful emotions and make her mood even worse.

At around 5 p.m., after finishing his work, Matteo called Harry. “Where are you now?” Harry gave him the address, and Matteo drove over to join them.

“Dad!” Although Harry had been very kind to her, Isabella was still happiest when she saw Matteo. Matteo left his long coat in the car, didn’t bring it with him, and, dressed in a sharp suit, bent down to pick her up. He pinched her cheek lightly and said, “Did you have fun today with Uncle Harry and Daisy?”

Isabella was in a much better mood now. She nodded: “Yeah, it was fun!” She refused to come down from Matteo’s arms. He just carried her into the restaurant, and once they reached the private room, he set her down and said to Harry, “Thanks for taking care of her today.”

“It’s no trouble,” Harry replied. “They played by themselves most of the time, so I didn’t have to stay with them all the time. It was actually a bit easier.”

Seeing the two kids together, not paying attention to them, Harry looked at Matteo and asked, “I know the custody of Isabella is with you, but how did you both arrange her visitation rights?”

Matteo smiled when he heard this, understanding what Harry meant. He said, “Do you think I’m not letting her come see the child?”
