Chapter 168

Lying on the bed in the master bedroom, legs crossed, she swung them up and down: “Dad, are you going to pick up Aunt Raven soon?”

Matteo: “Yes.”

“Then you’ll come back early tomorrow and take me to play?”

“Okay.”

After getting dressed, ten minutes later, Matteo left the house.

By 8 p.m., he and Raven appeared at the banquet hall entrance. Raven was still wearing a costly, eye-catching outfit, stunningly beautiful in a way that made it hard for anyone to look away. As soon as they entered, they immediately attracted everyone’s attention. Harry, Levi, and the others were already there. Seeing them arrive, they walked over. Rex, Jimmy, and the others had just arrived; they noticed the movement and looked over. Upon seeing Raven, Rex’s eyes flashed with admiration. Jimmy turned to Yves and asked, “Is that Raven?” Yves nodded. “Yes, she’s gorgeous and captivating, right?” No matter how beautiful and captivating she was, she was still someone else’s girlfriend. Jimmy looked at her a couple of times before withdrawing his gaze without commenting. Matteo’s influence was undeniable. As soon as he arrived, many people gathered to greet him. Before long, he and Raven were surrounded by quite a few people.

At this point, Johnny and Freya arrived fashionably late. Cole, the most prominent company in the business circle recently, naturally invited Johnny. However, Harry was unsure if Freya would attend the banquet with him. Now, seeing her appear with Johnny, Harry’s eyes narrowed slightly. Levi had also suspected that Freya might appear at the banquet, but he hadn’t expected her to look this strikingly beautiful. Even though he didn’t like Freya, he couldn’t deny that her clean and captivating, gentle aura was truly one of a kind. Unfortunately, all that glitters is not gold. Thinking of this, Rex immediately lost interest and shifted his gaze away. Rex had indeed been stunned by Freya’s appearance. His thoughts were similar to Levi’s. Thus, he almost immediately turned his face away in disgust. Yves, on the other hand, found himself rather liking Freya. He had initially been reluctant to look away, but after seeing Rex’s reaction, he asked, “What’s wrong? Your reaction… Did she provoke you again?” Jimmy also pulled back his gaze. Rex proceeded to explain in detail everything that had happened two days ago at Cole. Yves said, “I didn’t realize Miss Miller was like this. She doesn’t seem the type.” Jimmy paused in his drinking and said, “Perhaps there’s some history between her and Miss Brown that we don’t know about?” Rex dismissed the idea. “Just because there’s a grudge between them doesn’t mean she can take it out on others.” Not knowing the full picture, Jimmy refrained from making any conclusions and said nothing further.

As Freya and Johnny entered the banquet hall, they were immediately surrounded by the crowd. People gathered around Johnny, offering their compliments. He then looked at Freya and added, “Especially Mag, her contribution is indispensable.”

Whether referring to the previous CUA project or the two recent projects, the core technology had been handled by her.

However, her identity still could not be revealed. This time, even the core team members involved in the project with their company had signed confidentiality agreements with the government. Though her identity couldn’t be disclosed, emphasizing her importance to the others was still acceptable. Recently, there had been increased attention on Cole, and many people were aware that Freya worked for the company and was very close to Johnny. Johnny even delegated authority to her when he was absent from the company, letting her handle company affairs. Hearing Johnny’s words, many people subconsciously thought that Freya must be quite capable at work. However, when Johnny said, “Cole’s success today owes much to Freya,” most of the people didn’t take it seriously. After all, they had heard that Freya had only joined Cole in the past two to three months. Johnny probably said this because he was love-struck and didn’t want others to look down on her. Freya was certainly very beautiful, and it was natural for Johnny to be enchanted by her at the height of his success. Though people thought this inwardly, none of them showed it on their faces. They all smiled and complimented her, saying, “Miss Miller truly combines both talent and beauty.”

Over at Raven, upon hearing this, she sneered. She glanced at Matteo, only to see that he briefly looked in Freya’s direction before nonchalantly pulling his gaze away. Raven watched this and coldly averted her own eyes. But she noticed Harry was staring intently at Freya’s direction. No, he was likely looking at Johnny. Raven knew that Harry was also interested in collaborating with Cole. As for Freya, Harry disliked her—how could he possibly be staring at her? No matter how beautiful Freya was, Harry would never be interested in her. Noticing Raven’s gaze, Harry withdrew his attention and asked, “What is it?” Raven smiled faintly. “Nothing.” Harry didn’t press further. Seeing that the crowd around Johnny and Freya had thinned a little, he said, “I’ll go say hi to Johnny. Frank, are you sure about collaborating with Cole? If so, why don’t we go greet them together?” Matteo replied, “I’m in no rush, you go ahead.” “Alright,” Harry said. He walked over to greet Johnny and Freya. “Mr. Gray, Miss Miller.” Seeing him approach, Johnny’s smile faltered slightly. “Ah, it’s Mr. Becker.” Freya also greeted him politely. “Mr. Becker.” At this point, Rex walked over as well. Unlike Harry, he only greeted Johnny. “Mr. Gray.” Johnny’s smile grew even colder. “Mr. Hardin is here too? My apologies, I didn’t notice earlier. We were a bit busy.” Rex had naturally noticed that Johnny seemed even more cold toward him than the last time they met. This didn’t surprise him. He shot a cold glance at Freya.
