Chapter 171
Freya pressed her lips together, unsure of his intentions. “This is my business,” she thought. Whether she was fine or not was no longer his concern. It seemed Matteo had just asked casually. When she didn’t answer, he didn’t press the issue. Without her noticing, he led her off the dance floor and then turned and left.
No one knew how it had come about that Matteo and Freya had suddenly become dance partners. When they saw this scene, everyone was quite surprised. Raven bit her lip; however, she quickly regained her composure. If Matteo could fall in love with Freya, it would have happened long ago. There would be no waiting until now.
When Matteo returned, she left the dance floor and asked, “Did you go to talk to her about something?” Matteo replied, “Just talked about Isabella.” Raven nodded. “Mm.” She knew that if there was nothing important, Matteo wouldn’t have gone to talk to Freya. She smiled and once again invited Matteo to dance. Matteo followed her back onto the dance floor.
On the other side, Johnny was also taken aback when he saw that Matteo was the one dancing with Freya. When he found out that Matteo had approached her to talk about the child, he felt a bit relieved. “Try to avoid getting involved with him in the future,” he advised. Freya responded, “I know.”
At this point, Jimmy walked over. “Miss Miller, sorry for swapping dance partners without your consent.” After the switch, he noticed that Freya looked cold and was clearly averse to dancing with Matteo. She didn’t want to dance with him. At that, he realized Matteo was Raven’s boyfriend. There seemed to be some animosity between Raven and Freya. So, he guessed that Matteo had approached her suddenly because he wanted to talk about Raven, perhaps even to seek justice for her.
Freya shook her head and said, “It’s fine, it’s not your fault. If I were you, I’d have done the same.” Her tone was sincere and calm. It was clear that she truly didn’t hold it against him. Earlier, when dancing with her, Jimmy had noticed that she wasn’t someone quick-witted or adept at socializing. She was quiet and composed, and her gaze toward him held no ulterior thoughts—she simply saw him as a temporary dance partner.
Jimmy extended his hand. “Would you like to dance again?” Freya hesitated for a moment. Seeing that Jimmy wasn’t interested in her in a romantic sense, just sincerely apologizing and showing friendliness, she took his hand out of respect. He had offered the invitation with genuine sincerity. He wasn’t romantically inclined; after all, there were no lingering emotions in his demeanor. He was simply trying to make amends. He also wanted to show some respect, so Freya agreed. He then took her back onto the dance floor.
Meanwhile, Harry had already left the dance floor. Seeing Freya dancing with Jimmy again, his eyes darkened. Raven also noticed Jimmy’s renewed invitation to dance with Freya, and a flicker of surprise passed through her eyes.
Chapter 172
Matteo noticed as well. He raised an eyebrow and smiled with amusement, then casually continued dancing with Raven. A moment later, Matteo’s phone rang, and he left the dance floor with Raven. Coincidentally, Levi also didn’t want to continue dancing. He and Raven walked toward Harry, whose gaze had seemingly been fixed on Freya the whole time. Freya and Jimmy were still on the dance floor.
Levi took a sip from his drink, his gaze falling on Freya. “Jimmy seems to have quite an interest in her, but with the Hall family’s background, even if he does like her, his family would never approve.” After all, Freya was already divorced, had a child, and the Miller family was now in such a precarious position. It would be strange if the Hall family would accept her. Levi didn’t say all this aloud, but Raven understood his meaning.
Having been in the capital for so long, she knew that the Wilson, Becker, Kwan, Hall, and Hardin families were among the most prominent aristocratic families in the capital. Earlier, she had suspected that Jimmy had an impressive background, and she had considered whether he might be part of the Hall family. It turned out she had guessed right. However, perhaps Jimmy really did have a liking for Freya, but it might not be the kind of romantic liking. As for Freya entering the Hall family, that was still a long way off.
Just as she was thinking this, she saw Jimmy and Freya leaving the dance floor. Jimmy nodded and greeted Freya before turning and leaving. It seemed there was no trace of lingering feelings or reluctance. Raven smiled slightly. It seemed she had been right. She had known that Freya didn’t possess the kind of charm to make someone like Jimmy fall for her at first sight.
Levi withdrew his gaze and said, “After dancing for so long, I’m a bit hungry. How about we go get something to eat?”
Seeing that Freya and Johnny were heading to the buffet, Harry spoke up. Raven nodded to Matteo, who was still on the phone from afar, then joined them at the buffet. Upon seeing them, many people at the buffet approached to greet them. There were even some people who wanted to discuss business cooperation with Harry and Levi. Raven stood by, watching them talk.
At that moment, Rex and Jimmy also appeared in the area. Seeing her, Rex walked over. “Miss Brown.” Raven gave a faint smile. “Mr. Hardin,” she replied. “Where’s Mr. Wilson? Why isn’t he with you?” “He went to take a call.” As she spoke, Rex suddenly remembered that Raven and Jimmy didn’t know each other, so he introduced them. “Miss Brown, this is my brother Jimmy.” Then he turned to Jimmy. “Jim, this is Miss Raven.” Jimmy extended his hand. “Hello, Miss Brown.” Raven shook his hand. “Hello.”
Freya and Johnny had just arrived. Seeing this, Johnny let out a small “tsk.”
