Listen to this chapter:

Freya took a step back, about to turn off the light and leave, when she heard Aunt Sara’s voice behind her. “Madam.”

Freya turned around and saw Aunt Sara carrying a tray with a bowl of stew.

“Aunt Sara.”

Aunt Sara smiled and said, “This is a supplement the old lady left here when she visited. She told me to cook it for you when I have time.”

Freya nodded. “Thank you.”

Aunt Sara smiled and paused for a moment before saying, “Madam, your things… Mr. Wilson had me pack them up at the beginning of this month. I’ve placed everything on the third floor. If you need anything, I can bring it up for you, or…”

They had signed the divorce agreement at the beginning of the month.

Freya replied, “No need. I’ll go upstairs and get them myself later.”

“Alright,” Aunt Sara said. “Should I take the stew to Isabella’s room?”

This was a tacit acknowledgment that she couldn’t go into the master bedroom anymore.

Freya accepted the tray and said, “I’ll handle it myself.”

“Okay.”

Freya turned off the light and returned to Isabella’s room with the tray. After finishing the stew, she went upstairs. Her belongings had been placed in a room on the third floor, by the edge. Everything was neatly arranged; the room was also clean and tidy. It was clear that Aunt Sara had been taking care of it regularly. She took the clothes and items she needed, then went downstairs to shower in Isabella’s room. After showering, she read a book with Isabella for a while before getting ready for bed.

Before going to sleep, Isabella said, “Mom, I’m going to tell Dad goodnight. Do you want to come with me?”

Freya shook her head. “No, you go ahead.”

“Okay.”

Three minutes later, Isabella returned and said, “Mom, Dad asked me to tell you goodnight too.”

Treya put down the book and said, “Mm, I know.”

Isabella yawned and climbed into bed, nestling into her arms. “Alright, Mom, we can sleep now. Goodnight.”

Freya smiled gently. “Goodnight.”

With that, she turned off the light. Freya woke up just as the sky began to brighten. Isabella was still asleep. After washing up, she went downstairs and into the kitchen. Around seven o’clock, she went back upstairs. Isabella had already woken up. When she saw her, she quickly minimized the chat window on her phone.

Freya pretended not to notice and casually said, “Go wash up and change your clothes.”

“Okay!”

Freya gathered her things and was about to leave when she saw Aunt Sara picking up the pajamas she had worn last night to wash them.

She said, “Just throw them away. No need to wash them.”

Then she added, “The other things too. Could you please throw them away? I won’t be needing them anymore.”

Her divorce with Matteo should be finalized soon. After that, even when she met with Isabella, she wouldn’t return here, nor would she stay here overnight. These things, she wouldn’t need them anymore. She didn’t even want to take them with her.

There had always been issues between her and Matteo in their marriage. In the past two or three months, Freya had rarely returned, which was a clear sign that their relationship had likely reached its end. When Matteo had someone take her things from the master bedroom at the beginning of the month, it confirmed this.

Now, hearing Freya’s words, Aunt Sara understood perfectly. She didn’t know what to say and just whispered, “Alright.”

Freya took her bag and went downstairs. Just as she stepped outside, Matteo had returned from his run. When he saw her, he greeted her first. “Good morning.”

Freya nodded, her tone neutral. “Good morning.”

After that, she placed her bag on the sofa and went into the kitchen. Matteo went upstairs. Breakfast wasn’t quite ready yet, so Aunt Sara took care of the remaining work. Freya came out into the living room and read while waiting for Isabella to come downstairs.

As time passed, she noticed that Isabella hadn’t come down yet. Not wanting to be late, Freya stayed where she was and asked Aunt Sara to go upstairs and hurry her up. In the past, these things had always been taken care of by Freya herself. But now, she was still here, yet she acted as though she were a guest, showing less concern for Isabella than she had before.

Aunt Sara noticed this and nodded, going upstairs.

“Changed to another book?”

Freya had indeed been absorbed in her reading. She didn’t notice Matteo coming downstairs until she heard his voice. She nodded.

Matteo extended his hand. “Can I take a look?”

Freya hesitated, then replied, “Don’t you have one?”

No More Layovers for a Love That Won’t Land 09:59 Thu, 15 May

This book was the latest AI journal. When they had just gotten married, and when she wasn’t yet “aware” of things, she had noticed that Matteo had many AI-related books in his study, including the latest journals. He should have subscribed to the latest issues.

“I’ve been busy recently and haven’t had the time to look at it,” he said, reaching for the book.

Freya heard Isabella’s footsteps and, as she was preparing to have breakfast, casually handed the book over to him. Isabella came downstairs, saw them, and ran over to hold Freya’s hand. “Mom, is breakfast ready?”

Freya smiled. “Yes.”

She walked toward the dining room with Isabella, who glanced back at Matteo holding the book. “Dad, aren’t you having breakfast?”

Matteo replied, “I’ll have it later.”

Freya and Isabella sat down at the table. After a while, Matteo joined them. He had just started eating when his phone buzzed with a message. He set his utensils down and picked up his phone. Freya quietly continued eating her breakfast. When she had finished, she stood up and left the dining room, placing the book that Matteo had left on the coffee table back into her bag.

After Isabella finished eating, she didn’t say anything more to Matteo and left with her. When Freya arrived at Isabella’s school, she immediately heard a sweet voice calling, “Aunt Freya!”
