Chapter 185

The person who bumped into her apologized quickly before running into the restroom. Freya, realizing what had happened, was about to pull away from Matteo when Rex appeared at the corner. Seeing Freya pressed against Matteo, and Matteo holding her waist, Rex came to an abrupt stop. Matteo immediately let go of her.

Freya turned sideways, distancing herself from Matteo, but she didn’t look at either him or Rex as she turned and left. Watching Freya’s retreating figure, Rex’s gaze shifted back to Matteo, who smiled slightly. “Mr. Hardin also came to use the restroom?”

Rex answered coolly, “…Yes.” Matteo nodded and didn’t say anything more before turning and leaving. Rex watched Matteo’s calm departure, his lips tightly pressed together.

He had never once considered the idea of Freya and Matteo together. He only knew they had met at Wilson Tech, but they had never spoken. That was normal, considering Freya was just a technical staff member at Cole, with a low rank, and wouldn’t likely have had any opportunity to speak with someone like Matteo. The only time he could recall was at the last banquet, but Matteo probably only approached Freya because of Raven. Otherwise, they shouldn’t have had any other connection. But what he had just seen—what was that about?

After Freya returned to the private room, it was a while before Rex came back. They had almost finished eating by then, so they left the restaurant. Rex went back to the company to prepare some materials, while Freya and Johnny headed back to Cole.

Around 3 PM, Harry arrived at Cole at nearly the same time as Rex. Previously, when testing the Wilson Tech autonomous driving vehicles, they had had a meal together. Now, seeing each other again, Rex greeted him, “Mr. Becker, so you’ve confirmed your cooperation with Cole?”

“Yes. Does this mean Mr. Hardin is ready to sign the contract?”

“That’s right.”

Harry was somewhat surprised. After all, at the banquet, Johnny had turned down Rex without hesitation. He never expected that, in the end, they would still cooperate. He wasn’t sure…

At that moment, Freya and Johnny entered the meeting room. Although both Harry and Rex weren’t exactly to Johnny’s liking, it was clear that Harry had a much friendlier attitude toward Freya than toward Rex.

Thus, during the talks, Johnny allowed Freya to discuss matters with Harry, while he handled things with Rex. Rex didn’t have any objections to this arrangement, but Harry…

Harry smiled and said, “Then I’ll leave it to you, Miss Miller.”

Freya replied, “You’re too kind, Mr. Becker. Please, this way.”

After they sat down, Freya started talking with Harry’s technical team. They discussed business, and by the time they were done, it was already dark.

As they left the meeting room, Harry said, “Miss Miller, would you like to have dinner together?”

Freya replied, “I have something else to attend to. Let me check with John first—”

At that moment, Johnny also walked out of the meeting room and chimed in, “Dinner? Sure.” He then turned to Freya, “You go ahead and take care of what you need to. Leave this to me.”

Freya nodded, waved goodbye to Harry, and, without acknowledging Rex, turned to leave.

Harry: “….”

Johnny looked at Rex and asked, “Mr. Becker is inviting us for dinner. Mr. Hardin, would you like to join?”

Rex: “Let’s go.”

After Freya left Cole, she returned to the Miller family home. She had come back to discuss business with Jason. Although Cole was currently preparing two major projects, each project had been divided into several outsourced parts. Freya had intentionally left one of the outsourced tasks for her uncle, Jason, to handle.

Upon hearing her proposal, Jason was naturally interested.

“Will John have any objections?”

“No, I’ve already discussed it with him.”

“Good,” Jason said, but then added, “However, the liquidity is a bit tight on my end. I’m afraid…”

“I have more than 10 million here,” Freya replied. “If that’s not enough, we can auction off those two gifts from Grandma’s last birthday to raise some funds.”

During her grandmother’s birthday, the two gifts given by Matteo were already set aside for this purpose. Now, with the divorce proceedings, she was prepared to auction them off. Matteo wouldn’t mind.

However…

“Matteo has a wide network. If we auction off the two gifts he gave, and he finds out, would that be an issue?”

“He won’t mind.”

Seeing how certain she was, Jason relaxed. With the 10 million from her, the two gifts were estimated to be worth around 30 million, and with some additional funds from Jason, 50 million would be sufficient. If not, well…

Freya glanced at the villa across from her. The next afternoon, Jason found an opportunity to send the items to the auction house. Not long after, Matteo’s side received a call from the auction house.

After receiving the news, Matteo’s expression didn’t change. He replied, “Alright, I understand.”

The person on the other end asked, “Do you want us to keep the items for you?”

Matteo answered, “No need.” The caller quickly hung up, not daring to disturb him any further.
