Chapter 192

Johnny also watched for a while, but then, for some unknown reason, he rolled his eyes again. He felt like he couldn’t stay any longer. Seeing that Freya seemed uninterested in continuing to watch, he asked, “Do you want to go back to Freya’s side and sit for a bit? Have something to eat?”

Treya shook her head. “No need. Let’s wait a bit longer.”

Harry had noticed earlier than Johnny that Freya’s attention had shifted away from the chessboard. When Matteo and Old Fisher were playing, he saw that Freya had been very focused. But now, with Matteo and Raven playing, she had only watched for a short while before losing interest.

Although the game between Matteo and Raven was quite engaging, Harry could tell that Raven’s chess skills were still not at the level of Old Fisher, let alone Matteo. But she was certainly very skilled. Freya’s reaction seemed to imply that…

“She’s okay, I guess.”

Just then, Old Hall’s voice suddenly came from the side. He and Jimmy, no one knew when they had arrived, were now standing next to Old Fisher.

Old Fisher smiled and said, “She’s pretty good, indeed.”

After a moment, Old Fisher turned to Jimmy and asked, “Why didn’t you bring your paintings over?”

“I was worried you’d say I wasn’t being attentive, so I came over to check,” Jimmy replied with a grin.

“Go, go, go, get busy with your own things. Don’t disturb me while I’m watching the game,” Old Fisher said with a wave.

Jimmy, however, didn’t leave. The Brown and Green families, upon hearing Old Fisher and Jimmy praise Raven, were visibly pleased. Many people in the room were already familiar with Raven. As expected, she was someone who could make both others admire and envy her. After all, Raven had both beauty and a stellar educational background. Now, with her chess skills catching the attention of Old Fisher and Jimmy, she had become the focus of admiration. Furthermore, Raven’s charm had won Matteo’s deep affection, which had helped elevate both the Brown and Green families in status. With a daughter like this, who wouldn’t want such a blessing?

Some people couldn’t help but express their envy, saying, “Old Mrs. Brown, Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown, you really have a wonderful granddaughter, a great daughter!”

“Indeed, indeed,” others chimed in, following up with, “Could you share with us how you raised her so well, so outstanding? We’re all friends, Old Madam, Mrs. Brown, would you be willing to share some parenting tips with us?”

Soon, the ladies from the elite families surrounded Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Green. Raven, receiving so much praise and admiration, couldn’t help but feel proud. Tracy shared in her delight.

She glanced at Treya, who was standing over there, and smirked, whispering to Janice, “Compared to Raven, she’s really just standing on the sidelines.”

Janice’s face grew cold, clearly displeased that Tracy was comparing her daughter to Freya. The Brown family, including Old Lady Brown and Logan, also overheard Tracy’s words. They too turned to look at Freya. Indeed, in every regard, Raven was clearly superior to Freya. Thinking this, they returned their attention to Raven, their gazes filled with warmth and affection.

At this moment, Raven stood up and said to Old Fisher, “Sorry, I lost.”

Old Fisher smiled kindly and said, “Even if you lost, you did very well. After all, not everyone is like that young man from the Wilson family. A young person who is good at both studying and playing chess like you is already very rare.”

Hearing Old Fisher’s praise, Raven smiled modestly. “You flatter me, Old Fisher.”

Old Fisher then asked, “Would you like to try again?”

Raven shook her head with a smile. “One round of showing off is enough. I’ll leave the opportunity for others.”

Old Fisher, still enthusiastic, asked, “Is anyone else going to play?”

A silence fell over the room. Harry, who had been watching, turned his gaze to Matteo. Only then did he realize that Matteo was holding a chess piece and was looking directly at him.

Just then, Freya stepped forward and said to Matteo, “How about a game?”

Matteo paused with the chess piece in his hand and looked up, his gaze locking with hers. Harry also turned his attention back to the conversation, surprised by Freya’s bold request. He truly hadn’t expected Freya to actively propose a game with Matteo in such a public setting. Raven and the Brown and Green families were equally shocked. They, like Harry, hadn’t anticipated Freya saying such a thing. Given Freya’s personality, she seemed like the type who wouldn’t dare to make such a request in front of so many people, if she did want to play.

The Brown and Green families furrowed their brows. Logan said, “If I’d known she’d pull something like this, I should’ve warned her earlier.”

At this moment, Matteo spoke up. “Alright.”

Freya sat down opposite him. Raven, after the initial shock, quickly regained her composure. Her expression returned to calmness, and after greeting Old Hall and the others, she went back to stand next to Matteo.

In fact, it wasn’t just Harry, the Brown family, and the Green family who were surprised. Jimmy and Old Hall were also taken aback. Although Jordan had introduced Freya to everyone earlier in the exhibition hall, neither Jimmy nor Old Hall knew much about her. However, they had both observed that Freya was gentle and quiet, not the type to seek attention. They had assumed that even if she knew how to play chess, she wouldn’t take the initiative to challenge someone in such a public setting.
