She woke up the next morning. When she got up and hugged her doll, looking for Freya, she asked, “Mom, have you not slept at all?”

Isabella: “.”

She had already woken up.

Freya rubbed her aching forehead and said, “I’m going to sleep for a bit, I’ll talk to you later.”

Freya slept until after 5 p.m. When she woke up, she saw Isabella playing Sudoku on the carpet in her room.

“Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?”

Freya paused for a moment. “Thank you.”

After Isabella poured her a glass of water, she returned to her game.

Freya looked at her little figure and realized that today was the last day of her break. She had been so busy with work over the past few days that she had been neglecting her. Tomorrow, she would have to go back to work at Cole, and she would have even less time to spend with Isabella.

Thinking about that, she spoke up, “Isabella.”

Isabella turned around. “What’s up, Mom?”

“When is your dad coming back?”

Isabella replied, “Dad said not so soon.” Then she asked, “Mom, do you need something from Dad?”

Freya didn’t say anything, just replied, “No, you go play.”

“Okay.”

After drinking the water, Freya sent a message to Matteo:

[When will you be back? I have to go back to work tomorrow and won’t have time to take care of Isabella. Can you come and pick her up?]

She sent the message and waited for more than half an hour before Matteo finally replied:

[I’ll be back in two days.]

Freya saw the message but didn’t reply.

After dinner, Isabella went out for a walk with Mrs. Miller, and after Freya went upstairs, Johnny called.

The next day, Freya officially went back to work at Cole. Since the company started developing the two projects she worked on last year, they had been short-staffed.
