Listen to this chapter:

The elderly lady frowned. “Freya—”

“Mom’s here?” Isabella, having just descended in the elevator, was delighted to see Freya after a two-week absence. She interrupted the elderly lady, throwing herself into Freya’s arms. “Mom!” Freya paused, gently hugging her back with a soft “mm,” but said nothing more.

The elderly lady, though wishing Freya wouldn't leave Wilson Group, changed the subject upon seeing Isabella. Smiling, she said to Freya, “Mag, it’s been ages since I’ve had your tea. Would you make some for Grandmother?”

Having grown up at Grandmother Wilson’s side, Freya possessed a calm and patient nature. Her tea ceremony skills, honed by natural talent and years of practice, were exceptional. “Of course, but it’s almost dinner time…”

Maria, preferring coffee and disliking Freya’s tea ceremonies, interjected, “Yes, we’ll start dinner soon when Matteo and York return…” Just then, Matteo arrived. After greeting the elderly lady and Stella, he briefly glanced at Freya before looking away and sitting far from her.

Seeing Matteo, Isabella immediately left Freya’s embrace and ran to him. “Dad!”

“Mm.” Matteo hugged her, looked around, and was about to speak when Maria arrived.

York, much younger than Maria and Matteo, bounded in, playfully leaping over the sofa armrest. Smiling at everyone, he asked, “Were you all waiting for me?” Maria playfully smacked his head. “Yes, we’ve all been starving!”

While Matteo was reserved and Maria quick-tempered, York was the family’s sunshine, particularly close to his parents. His arrival softened even Stella’s cold expression, and the elderly lady became more cheerful. Seeing it was late and everyone was hungry, she ordered dinner to be served.

Nine people dined in the small dining room, with the elderly lady, Matteo, Isabella, and Freya seated together. The elderly lady smiled and beckoned to Isabella. “Bella, switch seats with your father; let your parents sit together.” She tirelessly attempted to bring Freya and Matteo closer, a familiar effort everyone considered futile. Despite years of matchmaking, Matteo’s attitude toward Freya remained unchanged.

Maria, aware of the futility, smiled sarcastically, remaining uninvolved. Matteo, while disliking his grandmother’s matchmaking, wouldn't defy her on minor matters, remaining silent—a tacit acceptance. Freya no longer felt joy at the elderly lady’s attempts. Her expression remained neutral, though she smiled gently and said, “It’s fine, Grandmother, let’s stay as we are.”

The elderly lady felt helpless, believing Freya was too passive and accommodating, wasting opportunities over the years. However, she didn’t insist.

Dinner proceeded in a pleasant atmosphere of casual conversation. Freya remained quiet, eating with her head down. Over ten minutes passed since Matteo's arrival, yet the married couple hadn't exchanged a word—a normal occurrence for them.

Isabella, instead of asking Freya for help as she used to, now habitually asked Matteo. However, when she craved the large shrimp—a dish Freya had always peeled for both her and Matteo—she looked to Freya.

“Mom, I want to eat the large shrimp.”
