Freya put down her phone, ate breakfast, and left for the Wilson Group office. A large meeting was scheduled for the morning, which Matteo would also attend.
Arriving at the meeting room, Freya sat with the others, waiting over ten minutes before Matteo appeared. As he entered, Sherry gasped in admiration, her eyes shining as she gazed at him. Only when the meeting officially began did she finally look away. She tugged Freya's sleeve and whispered, "The President is really handsome!"
Freya had only glanced up when Matteo entered. Hearing Sherry's comment, she didn't even lift her head, offering a perfunctory "Mm." Sherry was surprised by Freya's apparent lack of interest in Matteo, but then remembered Freya was married with a child, concluding it was normal.
During the meeting, Sherry's heart raced as she continued to stare at Matteo, completely ignoring the discussion. Freya, however, focused on taking notes on her computer.
After the meeting, Matteo left first, followed by the others. Sherry daydreamed for a while, snapping out of it only when Jake arrived to collect the materials Freya had recorded. Jake flipped through the records, commenting, "Not bad, good work." Freya replied, "It's nothing."
After Jake left, Sherry realized she hadn't paid attention during the meeting and quickly asked Freya to send her the materials. A headache soon followed.
"Freya, did you study architecture before?" Sherry asked.
Freya replied, "No."
"Then why do you know so many industry-specific terms?"
"I learned them from books, but it's just the basics." The Wilson Group had diverse investment projects, and to do her job well, Freya had spent years learning about various industries.
"Ah? So you've also read books related to the medical industry?"
"Mm."
Sherry was stunned into silence. After two days with Freya, she realized Freya wasn't just a young woman who had coincidentally become team leader; she possessed genuine ability.
"What books did you read? Could you send me a reading list? I'd like to take a look when I have time."
"Sure, I'll send it to you later."
At noon, Freya compiled a list of useful and accessible books and sent it to Sherry. Sherry stared at the long list—around forty or fifty titles—a little bewildered.
At 3 PM, Matteo had a client meeting. Jake asked Freya to make several cups of coffee, intending to deliver them later. Sherry was unaware Freya had made Matteo's coffee. However, after Freya finished, Jake stopped her from delivering it himself, taking it personally. Sherry assumed Matteo wanted to avoid people getting too close, using the coffee as an excuse.
"Freya, have you never personally delivered coffee to President Matteo?" Sherry asked tentatively.
"Not really; sometimes, when Jake or others are busy, they ask me to," Freya replied.
Sherry liked coffee but had never considered making it herself. Hearing Freya's response, her eyes lit up. "Freya, how do you make coffee to suit President Matteo's taste? Can you teach me?" Even though the opportunity might be infrequent, she wanted to seize it.
Freya saw through Sherry's intentions. "Sure," she replied. She had given up on Matteo, so why keep his preferred coffee-making skills to herself?
At that moment, Jake arrived at the tea room and froze, hearing their conversation. He and Chad had always believed Freya wouldn't let go of the company and would find a way to stay. When Sherry came to take over Freya's job, they expected Freya to react. After all, Sherry was beautiful and stunning. How could Freya possibly let such a woman remain by Matteo's side?
But over the past two days, Freya had not only accepted Sherry but also gotten along well with her. Now, she was even teaching Sherry how to make coffee? Jake couldn't understand, and neither could Freya. She simply completed her work diligently, declined Sherry's dinner invitation, and planned to go home for a meal before resuming her AI research.
As soon as she left the company, her phone rang. It was Isabella.
"Mom, are you done with work?"
Freya, getting into the car, asked, "What's up?"
"I want to eat crab cake and sushi. Can you come home and make it for me?"
Freya paused. She hadn't officially divorced Matteo, and he hadn't asked her to move out. If she went home to cook for her daughter, she believed Matteo wouldn't mind. But she was tired and had her own plans. Isabella was her responsibility, but she also had her own life now. She wouldn't unconditionally sacrifice her time for them anymore.
She replied, "Mom has something to do today. Maybe next time."
In the past, Freya had always prioritized Matteo and Isabella. She almost never said no to them. But today, she had refused them twice. Although Isabella didn't notice and assumed Freya was busy, being turned down like this was rare for her, and she felt a bit wronged. "Mom, why have you been so busy lately? I don't care; I want crab cake and sushi!"
