Chapter 94
He abruptly ended the conversation. "Does your husband work in the field as well?"
Freya hesitated before replying. The General Manager had spoken to Freya before, about technical matters, knowing she was very competent in her field. He learned her husband was also in their industry and was about to ask his name. However, seeing Freya's indifferent expression, as though she didn't wish to continue the conversation, he quickly dropped the topic.
Johnny, however, wanted to speak. The husband you're talking about, Miss Miller, is none other than your company's big boss, Matteo.
But Freya was about to divorce him, and there would be many more opportunities to interact with the General Manager and others in the future. If he said that aloud, it would likely make the General Manager and others feel awkward about how to interact with Freya. Moreover, after learning her true identity, it wouldn't be surprising if someone, in an attempt to please Raven, deliberately made things difficult for Freya. To avoid unnecessary trouble, Johnny ultimately remained silent.
Once they left Wilson Tech, Freya and Johnny went their separate ways. When Freya arrived at the villa, Isabella was already waiting downstairs. Upon seeing her, she ran over, shouting, "Mom!"
"Hmm," Freya said, ruffling her hair. Just as she was about to ask if Isabella was hungry, Isabella looked at her foot. "Mom, are you really okay now?"
Freya nodded. "Yes, I'm fine."
"Where did you injure yourself before? Can I see?"
"There's no need to look. It's all healed."
"No, let me see."
Freya reluctantly took off her cotton shoes and pointed to her injured ankle. Isabella crouched down to inspect it. "There's no wound…"
"It's no longer swollen, so you can't see anything."
"Oh…" She said thoughtfully, "Mom, you're all better now. But you can't stand for too long. I've already had someone prepare the meal; let's eat first."
"Alright."
Isabella happily held her hand and led her to the dining room. There were only two sets of chopsticks and bowls on the table. Matteo's seat was empty.
Noticing where Freya was looking, Isabella said, "Dad said he's busy and won't be home for dinner tonight. It'll just be you and me, Mom."
Remembering how she had bumped into Matteo and Raven in the elevator earlier, Freya thought, perhaps the reason Matteo was busy was that he was having dinner with Raven? But she didn't say it aloud.
As they ate, she chatted with Isabella. Perhaps because she had given Isabella more freedom recently, Isabella had become closer to her than before. She no longer seemed impatient with her and was much more affectionate. So, after dinner, Isabella asked her to help with her bath, shampoo, and blow-dry her hair. Freya agreed. Isabella also asked her to take her to school tomorrow. Freya agreed to that as well.
Since the time at the hot spring resort, she hadn't had a proper chance to spend time with Isabella for ten days. So, that evening, she stayed at the villa. However, she didn't return to the master bedroom. She planned to sleep with Isabella instead. The last time she slept with her mother was because she had been sick. But this time, she wasn't sick, nor had she asked her mom to sleep with her.
As Freya took a bath in her room and planned to sleep there, Isabella was puzzled. Why didn't she return to the room she shared with Dad? However, she really liked sleeping with Freya because her mom smelled nice and soft, and it felt especially comfortable to hug her. So, she didn't ask. But, since Mom was here, she had to be a bit more careful when she said goodnight to Raven later, so that Mom wouldn't find out. That night, when Freya went to sleep, it was already past 11 PM. But Matteo still hadn't returned.
The next day, she found out that Matteo hadn't come home the previous night. The last time she saw him in the elevator, he had left with Raven. Since he didn't come home last night, it was likely that he was with Raven…
Freya withdrew her thoughts, took Isabella to school, and then returned to work at Cole. Isabella's thoughts were rarely still on Raven. Her need for Freya was occasional—only when she hadn't seen her in a while or when Matteo wasn't around, and she felt bored, would she think of her. Otherwise, she didn't need her.
