Chapter 225

Cynthia and Jonathan planned to stay in Betrico for two more days before returning to Roncrity. On their last day in Betrico, they had dinner at the Bennett manor. Susanna kindly asked, "When do you two plan to get married? I can start making arrangements."

Jonathan replied, "When I return to Roncrity this time, I'll get the marriage license with Cynthia. As for the wedding, we'll wait until we've handled everything at Paradise Resort and returned to Betrico." This was their agreement.

Jonathan was eager to have a wedding and announce their relationship, but Cynthia had reservations. Her biggest concern was whether to search for her biological parents.

Ultimately, Cynthia decided to investigate her background. She wanted to know who her biological parents were, what kind of people they were, and about the child switched with her at birth. However, she wouldn't interfere if they were happy; she simply wanted to find the truth.

The next day, Cynthia and Jonathan left for Roncrity, arriving around noon. They went to the BJ Building, had lunch, and Jonathan immediately immersed himself in his work, which had piled up during his absence. Meanwhile, Cynthia napped in the lounge before going to the TV station.

She still had an important task to complete. Upon her return, her colleagues greeted her with a mix of respect and curiosity:

"Cynthia, you're back!" "Congratulations, Cynthia! Should we start calling you Mrs. Bennett?" "Cynthia, your variety show was thrilling! Did it even have a script?" "Cynthia, when's the wedding? You must invite us!"

Cynthia smiled, acknowledging both the sincere and jealous comments. She returned to her desk, wrote her resignation letter, and went directly to Freddie's office.

Freddie greeted her with a large smile. "Hi, Cynthia."

Cynthia ignored his pretense and placed the letter on his desk. "Freddie, here's my resignation letter."

Freddie's expression changed. "Cynthia, what's going on? Why are you resigning? You can return to hosting the prime-time show, and I can promote you to deputy director of the editorial department. What do you think?"

With a sly smile, he continued, "I arranged a private office for you; it's just been renovated. Shall I show you?"

Freddie didn't want Cynthia to leave. Her popularity was comparable to a top star's, and the recently public TV station had benefited greatly from her fame, enjoying a soaring stock price. Her resignation worried him.

Chapter 225 (continued)

Cynthia's response was firm: "No need, Mr. Stewart. I've made up my mind."

Cynthia knew Freddie worked for Whitney. RNN had been secretly acquired by Berrion Multimedia, and Whitney controlled everything. Cynthia couldn't stay; she hadn't enjoyed her time there and felt it was time to leave.

Freddie was extremely worried. Without Cynthia, he was useless to Whitney. Furthermore, besides Whitney's shares, he'd used all his money to buy more station shares.

Even Timothy tried to persuade Cynthia, but she remained resolute. Everyone watched as she packed her belongings and left the building.

Before leaving, she walked down a corridor displaying photos of important people and events. Photos depicted government visits, award ceremonies, reporters in dangerous situations, and charity work.

Cynthia paused before a portrait—the only one in the corridor—of Ruby Davis, the only journalist from Clusia to win a Pulitzer Prize. Ruby had fought against injustice, reporting on child trafficking and illegal surrogacy, and her work on missing children had global impact. Even in her later years, she continued to help underprivileged children. She was Cynthia's role model.

Cynthia's dream of working at the TV station stemmed from an incident in kindergarten. A terrorist group hijacked their field trip bus, planting a bomb and demanding ransom. A journalist—Ruby Davis—risked her life to defuse the bomb and negotiate, giving the military time to rescue the 37 children and 6 adults unharmed.

Cynthia vividly remembered seeing Ruby, a gun to her head, but unflinching and speaking eloquently, almost disarming the criminals. Seeing Ruby's bravery ignited her dream of becoming a journalist like her, saving people and promoting justice.

She secretly chose Media and Communication as her college major, later facing life-altering events but ultimately achieving her goal of working at a TV station. While she initially aimed to be a frontline reporter, her looks led to a hosting role, which she initially accepted as still related to her goal.

However, the backstabbing and dishonesty at RNN had left her disappointed. RNN was no longer the station she knew.
