Chapter 257
Jonathan's expression changed. "However, what?"
Claude said gravely, "Ms. Sullivan couldn't save one of her legs; it was amputated." Jonathan's heart sank, his face darkening. Cynthia was equally shocked.
Nina had been in a serious car accident. Since the reality show ended, Cynthia hadn't seen Nina. Her impression of Nina remained from the show, particularly the final scene where Whitney tied them both to a yacht, forcing Jonathan to choose.
Later, Cynthia learned that Nina had followed her into the sea. Cynthia didn't understand why, but the act revealed Nina's intense devotion to Jonathan—a dangerous sign.
Jonathan frowned, deep in thought. Suddenly, he said, "How did she get into a car accident? Could Whitney be involved?" His first instinct was to suspect Whitney. Though she'd promised not to trouble Nina after the last incident, others secretly protected Nina.
Claude said, "This time, it's unrelated to your sister, but it is connected to you and Ms. Sexton."
Jonathan frowned. "Explain."
"We found Ms. Sexton sent many photos and videos to Ms. Sullivan the night you got your marriage license. Ms. Sullivan, distracted while driving on the highway, had an accident. The Sullivan and Sexton families are now at odds. Aaron even threatened Shelby with a baseball bat, and she was punished by kneeling in the ancestral hall all night. Mr. Bennett knows and wants you to resolve it."
"He emphasized that, since this began with you, you must clean up the mess. Both the Sullivan and Sexton families need pacifying. Both families have significant collaborations with the Bennetts. Nina's situation is relatively minor, but hostility between these families would destroy years of partnership, causing countless layoffs and broken families. Mr. Bennett considers this critical and demands your intervention," Claude continued.
Jonathan said coldly, "Understood. You may leave."
After Claude left, Cynthia said, "You should go and resolve this before returning."
Jonathan asked, "I'm going to see Nina. Would that upset you?"
Cynthia smiled and shook her head. "You're my husband, and I trust you completely."
Jonathan felt warmth. He took Cynthia's hand and, after a moment of silence, said, "I'll be back as soon as possible to attend Naomi's birthday party." He had already promised.
Cynthia smiled gently. "No need to rush. Take care of everything first. We can celebrate Naomi's birthday another time."

Jonathan replied, "Alright."
Three hours later, Jonathan arrived at Contech Hospital, Betrico's largest private hospital.
Claude followed him inside. "Nina just had her amputation surgery and has only been awake for less than two hours. She's still struggling emotionally, mainly because she can't accept the loss of her leg. You need to prepare yourself."
Jonathan's expression was serious. "I understand."
Jonathan didn't immediately see Nina. He first consulted her attending physician, Dr. Michael Thompson, about her condition. Nina's leg was crushed, with severe bleeding and nerve damage, necessitating amputation. The decision was made while she was unconscious; her mother, Yuliana, signed the consent form. Fortunately, despite the severity of the accident, she suffered no other major injuries. Being young, with good recovery, she might be discharged in three weeks.
Half an hour later, Jonathan went to Nina's room—a VIP suite resembling a luxury hotel, except for the constant flow of doctors and nurses.
As he reached the door, a flustered nurse almost bumped into him, calling to a colleague, "Quick, get Dr. Thompson!"
Jonathan frowned. "What's wrong?"
"The patient's agitated and won't stop moving. The wound has reopened."
The next hour was chaotic. Nina received a sedative, fell asleep, and Dr. Thompson restitched her wound. Yuliana and Aaron were present. Yuliana cried uncontrollably; Aaron paced, sighing. Once calm returned, they saw Jonathan. Aaron approached quickly and punched him. Jonathan didn't dodge; he stepped back, blood trickling from his mouth.
Claude stepped forward. "Mr. Sullivan, control yourself. Nina's accident wasn't our sir's fault."
Aaron shouted, "How can you say that? If those pictures of him with that woman hadn't upset Nina, would this have happened? She's so young, now disabled!"
His eyes were red. "Nina's studied ballet since elementary school and won many awards. Her legs were her pride. Now she's lost one—how can she accept that?"
Claude said, "We're devastated, but our sir didn't leak those photos. We can't blame him."
Aaron, heartbroken and furious, said, "I know it was Celine. Do you think I'll let her off? My daughter lost a leg, and the Sexton family won't protect her forever. Even if I have to use underworld contacts, she'll lose a leg too."

Aaron's anger intensified. "Jonathan, for years, the Sullivan family supported you. Without us, you might not have won against Whitney. I helped you, trusted you—for what? I hoped you'd protect my daughter. I entrusted Nina to you, believing you were perfect for her, treating you like family. I respected and helped you, even gave you our family heirloom, hoping you'd protect her. But the biggest storm in her life came from you?"
