Chapter 270

"Indeed," someone said. "And Ms. Jones bears a striking resemblance to Mrs. Xenos in demeanor. It's truly an extraordinary connection."

The Xenos family is blessed with striking good looks. Mr. Levi Xenos and Ms. Jones are a remarkably well-matched pair."

"People who don't know them might think they're family," someone murmured. The crowd buzzed with conversation.

Ruby watched Levi and Cynthia stand together, thoughtfully observing. They do look like a great match. Besides, Levi's proactive defense of Ms. Jones clearly indicates a high regard for her.

Ruby and Sam exchanged a knowing glance. Sam, understanding Ruby's thoughts, joked, "Mr. Jones, your daughter is lovely. Does she have a boyfriend? If not, my son Levi is still single."

Sam's blunt question left no room for misinterpretation.

Everyone thought, Wealthy people are so direct and efficient. It's clear Mr. and Mrs. Xenos admire Cynthia and want her to be their daughter-in-law.

Justin understood, but his expression was awkward. Shirley couldn't resist saying, "Cynthia's already married—it's her second marriage. She's a married woman." She added in a low voice, "I'm still single, though"

The surrounding people ignored her, considering her a fool. Ruby and Sam pretended not to hear.

Justin glared at Shirley and said, "She is married, and I'm sure you're both familiar with her husband, Jonathan Bennett of the Betrico Bennett family."

"Jonathan?" Ruby's face registered surprise. "Whitney's younger brother?" Justin nodded.

Ruby's gaze held a hint of complexity. "The Bennett family They're not an easy family; it's very complicated." A touch of sympathy and regret colored her look at Cynthia.

Sam chuckled. "Our Xenos family always seems a step behind the Bennetts." Ruby chuckled in agreement.

Turning to Cynthia, Ruby said, "I'll call you Cynthia. Honestly, Sam and I are fond of you. I thought one of my four sons, each with their own unique personality, might suit you. But since you're married, they're out of luck."

Cynthia was surprised by Ruby's forthrightness. Though shy, she responded gracefully, "It's I who am not fortunate enough to match with your four gentlemen."

Ruby, admiring Cynthia's open and confident demeanor, suggested, "In that case, how about you become my goddaughter?"

Cynthia paused, thinking, She's my idol. Her words are always so surprising. Ruby clasped Cynthia's hand tightly, unwilling to let go.

Seeing Cynthia's hesitation, worried she might refuse, Ruby began to gently persuade her.

"See, we're truly destined to meet, aren't we? You know our eldest and third sons. When you were young, I even saved you, and my husband held you when you were born." Cynthia felt puzzled and overwhelmed.

Ruby was her idol, the guiding light she had believed in for years, the strength that had encouraged her and helped her escape despair during difficult times. For years, Cynthia had followed Ruby's news, her UN speeches, and her work helping disadvantaged children worldwide.

Ruby was a magnificent and brilliant woman. Cynthia's biggest dream was to meet her idol, perhaps get an autograph. Now, within ten minutes of meeting her, she was being asked to become her goddaughter.

Cynthia admitted it was all happening too fast. Even she, usually calm, found it overwhelming. She had some concerns. The Xenos family was noble, powerful, and wealthy.

Cynthia remembered Jonathan mentioning past dealings between the Xenos and Bennett families, wondering if becoming Ruby's goddaughter might affect them. These were minor concerns, however.

Most importantly, it felt unrealistic. An eighteen-year fan suddenly being asked to be her idol's goddaughter? She felt dizzy, as if she might float away.

Ruby noticed Cynthia's hesitation and felt a pang of disappointment, but didn't give up. Her affection for Cynthia ran deep.

A voice inside urged her not to let Cynthia go. Ruby devised a clever plan.

"Cynthia," she said, "Sam gave you our family heirloom—that pendant. It's been passed down for generations. The fortune teller said it's tied to the Xenos family's karma and only a Xenos can handle it, so"

Cynthia was speechless, then amused. Her idol had fabricated a superstitious story to make her goddaughter.

Sam chimed in, "Yeah, I didn't know about that when I gave you the pendant. So, you can only be our goddaughter and join our Xenos family." Cynthia was at a loss for words.

Cynthia glanced at Hector and Levi. They nodded in unison, "Indeed!"

Justin felt anxious. What's wrong with Cynthia? The Xenos family wants her as their goddaughter! This is a huge stroke of luck for her and the Jones family. Why is she hesitating?

But Justin knew Cynthia's character. If she wanted it, she'd agree instantly. Otherwise, no one could force her. He could only stand by and worry.

Selena watched Ruby and Cynthia, feeling uneasy. They seemed more like mother and daughter.

Since Shirley and Cynthia's identities switched, their mother-daughter bond had faded. Though Cynthia still called her "Mom," her indifference hurt. Shirley's constant air of being owed also exhausted her.

After a while, Ruby asked carefully, "Cynthia, are you unwilling to be our goddaughter? If not, we won't pressure you."

Cynthia, who had been silent, smiled. "I'd love to."
