Chapter 284
Lilian lowered her head, silent for a moment, then laughed. "Filip, to be honest, I was tricked too, when I bought it. They said it would work."
"When you hadn't improved after a long time, I investigated and discovered it had the opposite effect. But you'd been taking it for a year. I didn't dare tell you the truth."
Lilian stood and walked to Filip. "Honestly, I don't care. We're good now, aren't we? Once the baby is born, you'll be the dad, I'll be the mom. We'll be a happy family of three."
Filip suddenly realized something. No wonder Lilian hadn't wanted to sleep with him, even when they were deeply in love. After she got pregnant, she insisted on separate bedrooms. He couldn't understand why she'd insisted on IVF before.
Putting the pieces together, he instantly understood everything.
Filip could hardly believe it. His face flushed with anger; his eyes widened in shock. "Lilian, you never loved me, right?"
He'd once thought that no matter how selfish or despicable Lilian was, she at least loved him because she always said she couldn't live without him. But now, it seemed all those words were lies.
He was nothing more than a pawn in her sick game. He suddenly found the woman before him terrifying. After all, he had truly loved her. He'd betrayed Cynthia and his family for her.
He'd left the country with her without hesitation because she wanted to study abroad, despite being labeled a cheater. He'd believed their love was real, and that Lilian had used underhanded tactics out of love.
He could have forgiven her if it had been out of love. But he was wrong! She'd used him as a shield. Drugging him revealed her complete lack of care.
Filip burst into laughter. He took a step forward and grabbed Lilian by the neck. "Lilian, you drugged me because you never wanted to sleep with me, right?"
Lilian grabbed his arms, trying to break free. Her face reddened from lack of oxygen. "Calm down, Filip. Let's talk!"
"Do you know this is heart medication? Can a healthy person take it? Are you trying to kill me?" Filip asked angrily.
He thought, No wonder I've often felt heart discomfort, a racing heart, shortness of breath, and insomnia. The symptoms started after I took the medicine and didn't stop even when I stopped taking it. The bottle was half empty, meaning Lilian had been secretly drugging him all along.
He thought, "We're sleeping in separate rooms, and have no feelings for each other now. Why is she still drugging me? Does she want to completely incapacitate me sexually, or does she want to kill me?"
Lilian gasped for air. "Let go of me, Filip! Are you insane?"
Filip was beside himself. Deceived for years, his world shattered. He'd turned against his friends and family for Lilian and lost everything.
Even knowing he'd been set up, he'd chosen to forgive her, believing she loved and worshipped him. But now he realized she couldn't care less about him or his life.
"Lilian, you ruined everything! You ruined my life! You deserve to die!" Filip yelled, his eyes flashing with rage. He tightened his grip on her neck. Lilian frantically patted his hands, her eyes bloodshot. She couldn't breathe.
"F-Filip, a-are you… trying to kill your child?" Lilian gasped.
That snapped Filip back to reality. Lilian was carrying his child—his last remaining hope.
Filip finally released Lilian. She coughed violently, struggling for breath, taking time to recover. Filip eventually calmed down, his eyes still filled with fury.
"Lilian, after you have the baby, get out of my house. I never want to see you again," Filip said. He hated her enough to want her dead. How dare she deceive and manipulate him!
But they couldn't make their secret public. Filip couldn't kill Lilian either. So, all he could do was get her out of his life.
Since Filip knew her secret, Lilian didn't need to pretend anymore. Tired of pretending to love him for three years, she picked up a hair elastic from the dresser and played with it.
"Fine. I'll leave, but you need to promise me two things before the baby is born," Lilian said.
"What do you want?" Filip asked.
"A grand wedding," Lilian replied.
With a cold expression, Filip said, "You've already mentioned that." Lilian had threatened his family with the unborn baby, and his parents had already conceded.
"And what else?" he asked.
"In good time," Lilian said.
"Don't think I'll agree to anything you say," Filip said coldly.
"Don't worry. I'm sure you will," Lilian said.
Chapter 281
It was late when Cynthia arrived home. The bedroom light was still on. Inside, she found Jonathan sitting on the bed, reading.
He wore sleek silver-rimmed glasses, looking like a gentleman. Cynthia rarely saw him wear glasses. His open grey robe made him look both restrained and sexy.
Cynthia walked over, appraising him. She hooked a finger under his chin and exclaimed, "You have nice skin."
Jonathan laughed and leaned back against the headboard, deliberately pulling his robe open further to show his toned abs. "I dressed up for you. Are you satisfied?"
Cynthia laughed. "You look sexy today. Who are you trying to seduce?"
"You!" He pulled her into his arms and kissed her.
Cynthia's neck tickled. "I just saw Filip. Seriously?"
Jonathan propped himself up on his elbows, feigning jealousy. "Did he confess his love to you today?"
Cynthia giggled. Jonathan had seen Filip express his feelings to her privately the day they got their marriage license. She couldn't believe he still remembered; what a petty guy!
Cynthia wrapped her arms around his neck. "I won't accept him even if he confesses a hundred times. He's not as handsome, rich, or sexy as you. What are you afraid of?"
Jonathan nodded. Leaning closer, he whispered in Cynthia's ear, "You forgot one thing. He's not as good as me in bed."
