Chapter 58

Shirley and Jonathan immediately drew everyone's attention, especially since all of Roncrity's influential citizens were present. Jonathan, in particular, stood out as the son of the country's wealthiest man and the sole heir to the Bennett Group, the prosperous offspring of Betrico.

A small town like Roncrity was no match for Betrico. Everyone knew Jonathan was in Roncrity to oversee the Paradise Resort, a lucrative project promising significant opportunities for the construction industry and several other sectors.

It was a vast undertaking, reportedly costing trillions of dollars and impacting all walks of life. Consequently, Jonathan's family sought to capitalize on any opportunity presented.

As a result, many attempted to cultivate a relationship with Jonathan, but were largely unsuccessful.

No one expected the Jones family's daughter, Shirley, to be so close to him. Several women from prestigious families seethed with jealousy at the sight of them together.

"What is the relationship between Ms. Shirley Jones and Mr. Bennett? He even attended her birthday party!" one woman exclaimed.

"Judging from Ms. Shirley Jones' shy expression, it's clear she likes him," another woman observed.

"The Jones family is so lucky! If Ms. Shirley Jones marries Mr. Bennett of Betrico, their family's fortunes will skyrocket," another chimed in.

"I don't think so. Attending a birthday party doesn't mean anything," someone countered.

A variety of opinions filled the room, thick with envy and jealousy. Many had initially come to mock the Jones family, but now found themselves envious and jealous, forgetting their original intentions.

Those near Justin began to subtly compliment him.

"Mr. Jones, Ms. Shirley Jones strongly resembles Mr. Bennett. Looks like you're going to be a father-in-law soon," one person said.

"That's right. Don't forget your old friends if the Jones and Bennett families unite," another man added.

"Ms. Shirley Jones is impressive. She makes you proud," said another.

Justin blushed under the flattery. He excitedly approached Jonathan, saying, "I didn't know you were coming. Please forgive my lack of a proper welcome, Mr. Bennett."

"Mr. Jones, please call me Jon. No need for formalities," Jonathan replied.

Jonathan's modesty surprised everyone. His willingness to dispense with formalities prompted whispers: "Isn't he rumored to be unruly, arrogant, and aloof? That nothing can capture his attention?"

Seeing Jonathan's politeness towards Justin, people concluded there could only be one reason—Shirley. They surmised, "Ms. Shirley Jones' relationship with Mr. Bennett is indeed special."

Meanwhile, Shirley reveled in the admiration and jealousy surrounding her. It boosted her self-esteem. She even attempted to take Jonathan's arm without asking, but he subtly avoided her and gave her a cold look.

Startled, Shirley recoiled. Perhaps he's not used to showing affection in public, she thought.

Then Shirley added, "I witnessed it myself. I was standing nearby and saw Cynthia intentionally push Lilian down the stairs. I'm not the only one; others witnessed it too."

The people Shirley referenced were her followers, who, having benefited from her, naturally supported her claims.

"Yes, that's right. We all saw it," one person confirmed.

Jonathan looked at them, his cold gaze a palpable threat.
