Chapter 94

Shirley was furious. Cynthia was trying to ruin her image with Jonathan. Shirley attempted to salvage her reputation, saying, “Mr. Bennett, I didn’t mean that. I always speak my mind. I can’t bear to see you deceived by Cynthia. She married three years ago—a union between the Jones and Yates families. Her husband, however, loved someone else, and she had other relationships. Mr. Bennett, please don't be taken in by her.”

Shirley believed Cynthia had seduced Jonathan because of her beauty, and that their relationship was a fleeting affair, lacking genuine feelings.

Jonathan looked away from Cynthia. Looking at Shirley, he said indifferently, “Ms. Jones, Cynthia has severed ties with the Jones family. Stop calling her your sister; people will think you're clinging to the connection.”

Shirley was so angry she almost laughed. Why can’t Jonathan understand? I'm the legitimate daughter of the Jones family. Why should I be involved with a fake daughter?

“Mr. Bennett, Cynthia is fickle and unfaithful. She only has a pretty face. Haven't you heard, ‘the more beautiful a woman, the more likely she is to lie’?”

Shirley no longer cared. She was always straightforward with Jonathan.

Jonathan’s eyes flashed. He was about to speak when Cynthia patted his back and said lightly, “Let me handle it.”

Cynthia stepped forward, pinched Shirley’s chin, and twisted her wrist. A crack sounded as Shirley’s chin dislocated. Her eyes widened in disbelief. She was berating Cynthia, but now, unable to speak, she felt a sharp pain. Trembling and flustered, she pointed at Cynthia, but her words were incomprehensible. Only saliva flowed uncontrollably.

Cynthia clapped her hands. “Go to the hospital. Don’t blame me if you can’t get it reattached.”

Terrified, Shirley rushed into the elevator, drooling.

Jonathan was surprised. “Cynthia, how many surprises do you have that I don’t know about?”

Cynthia smiled. “It’s a secret.” She followed Jonathan back to his office and asked, “Why did Shirley come to you?”

Jonathan returned to his desk. “She filed an appeal; the case reopens in two weeks.”

Cynthia nodded. “What are the chances of a successful appeal with new evidence?”

Jonathan raised an eyebrow. “Don’t you trust me? Bennett Group has the best lawyers.”

Cynthia smiled. “Then I’ll invite Selena to attend in person.”

Chapter 94 (Continued)

Jonathan looked at her dotingly. “Bad girl.” Remembering something, he asked, “Why did you visit so suddenly?” It was three o'clock; Cynthia usually worked at the TV station.

Cynthia sat on his lap, put her arms around his neck, and kissed him.

Jonathan, his ears reddening, was pleased but pretended to be serious. “Ms. Jones, please behave yourself.”

Cynthia hooked his chin. “You don’t like it?”

Jonathan surrendered, putting his arms around her waist. “I like it very much.” They kissed.

Jonathan asked, “What do you want?” Her visits were never without reason; this seemed significant. She was about to confess her feelings—"Jonathan, I—"

Jonathan’s phone vibrated—an unusual ringtone. He ignored it. “What’s wrong?”

Cynthia took the phone. “It’s for you.” Glancing at the contact, she said, “Nina.”

Cynthia handed him the phone and stood. “Answer it first.”

Jonathan went to the balcony to answer. It was the first time he’d avoided her for a call.

Cynthia felt Nina had a special relationship with him.

Five minutes later, Jonathan returned. “What were you saying?” He showed no intention of explaining.

“Who is Nina?” Cynthia asked, smiling.

“My relative’s niece is in trouble and asked for help,” he replied.

Cynthia nodded, realizing she'd overreacted.

Jonathan held her. “You haven’t told me why you’re here.”

After the interruption, Cynthia couldn’t say what she planned, but kissed his cheek. “I’ll tell you tonight.”

A regretful look crossed Jonathan’s face. “I have to go to Betrico for a few days.”

Cynthia was surprised. “What’s the hurry?”

Coldness flashed in his eyes. “Something urgent. Why don’t you come with me? You haven’t been sleeping well. Some fresh air might help.”

Chapter 94 (Continued)

Cynthia shook her head. “I just requested three days off. I can’t ask for more now. You go. I’ll wait for you.”

Jonathan said nothing more.

Cynthia returned to the TV station, thinking Jonathan’s business must involve Nina.

That evening, as Cynthia was leaving work, Freddie approached her.

“Cynthia, pack your bags. Tomorrow, we’re going to BCB for a study exchange. You’re the first person I thought of.”
