Chapter 94
Shirley was furious. Cynthia was trying to ruin her image with Jonathan. Shirley attempted to salvage her reputation, saying, โMr. Bennett, I didnโt mean that. I always speak my mind. I canโt bear to see you deceived by Cynthia. She married three years agoโa union between the Jones and Yates families. Her husband, however, loved someone else, and she had other relationships. Mr. Bennett, please don't be taken in by her.โ
Shirley believed Cynthia had seduced Jonathan because of her beauty, and that their relationship was a fleeting affair, lacking genuine feelings.
Jonathan looked away from Cynthia. Looking at Shirley, he said indifferently, โMs. Jones, Cynthia has severed ties with the Jones family. Stop calling her your sister; people will think you're clinging to the connection.โ
Shirley was so angry she almost laughed. Why canโt Jonathan understand? I'm the legitimate daughter of the Jones family. Why should I be involved with a fake daughter?
โMr. Bennett, Cynthia is fickle and unfaithful. She only has a pretty face. Haven't you heard, โthe more beautiful a woman, the more likely she is to lieโ?โ
Shirley no longer cared. She was always straightforward with Jonathan.
Jonathanโs eyes flashed. He was about to speak when Cynthia patted his back and said lightly, โLet me handle it.โ
Cynthia stepped forward, pinched Shirleyโs chin, and twisted her wrist. A crack sounded as Shirleyโs chin dislocated. Her eyes widened in disbelief. She was berating Cynthia, but now, unable to speak, she felt a sharp pain. Trembling and flustered, she pointed at Cynthia, but her words were incomprehensible. Only saliva flowed uncontrollably.
Cynthia clapped her hands. โGo to the hospital. Donโt blame me if you canโt get it reattached.โ
Terrified, Shirley rushed into the elevator, drooling.
Jonathan was surprised. โCynthia, how many surprises do you have that I donโt know about?โ
Cynthia smiled. โItโs a secret.โ She followed Jonathan back to his office and asked, โWhy did Shirley come to you?โ
Jonathan returned to his desk. โShe filed an appeal; the case reopens in two weeks.โ
Cynthia nodded. โWhat are the chances of a successful appeal with new evidence?โ
Jonathan raised an eyebrow. โDonโt you trust me? Bennett Group has the best lawyers.โ
Cynthia smiled. โThen Iโll invite Selena to attend in person.โ
Chapter 94 (Continued)
Jonathan looked at her dotingly. โBad girl.โ Remembering something, he asked, โWhy did you visit so suddenly?โ It was three o'clock; Cynthia usually worked at the TV station.
Cynthia sat on his lap, put her arms around his neck, and kissed him.
Jonathan, his ears reddening, was pleased but pretended to be serious. โMs. Jones, please behave yourself.โ
Cynthia hooked his chin. โYou donโt like it?โ
Jonathan surrendered, putting his arms around her waist. โI like it very much.โ They kissed.
Jonathan asked, โWhat do you want?โ Her visits were never without reason; this seemed significant. She was about to confess her feelingsโ"Jonathan, Iโ"
Jonathanโs phone vibratedโan unusual ringtone. He ignored it. โWhatโs wrong?โ
Cynthia took the phone. โItโs for you.โ Glancing at the contact, she said, โNina.โ
Cynthia handed him the phone and stood. โAnswer it first.โ
Jonathan went to the balcony to answer. It was the first time heโd avoided her for a call.
Cynthia felt Nina had a special relationship with him.
Five minutes later, Jonathan returned. โWhat were you saying?โ He showed no intention of explaining.
โWho is Nina?โ Cynthia asked, smiling.
โMy relativeโs niece is in trouble and asked for help,โ he replied.
Cynthia nodded, realizing she'd overreacted.
Jonathan held her. โYou havenโt told me why youโre here.โ
After the interruption, Cynthia couldnโt say what she planned, but kissed his cheek. โIโll tell you tonight.โ
A regretful look crossed Jonathanโs face. โI have to go to Betrico for a few days.โ
Cynthia was surprised. โWhatโs the hurry?โ
Coldness flashed in his eyes. โSomething urgent. Why donโt you come with me? You havenโt been sleeping well. Some fresh air might help.โ
Chapter 94 (Continued)
Cynthia shook her head. โI just requested three days off. I canโt ask for more now. You go. Iโll wait for you.โ
Jonathan said nothing more.
Cynthia returned to the TV station, thinking Jonathanโs business must involve Nina.
That evening, as Cynthia was leaving work, Freddie approached her.
โCynthia, pack your bags. Tomorrow, weโre going to BCB for a study exchange. Youโre the first person I thought of.โ
