Chapter 510
Nina glanced back at Alvin, then quickly followed Bowen. โMr. Turner, thereโs something I need to tell you. The one behind Aubreeโs kidnapping might be Alice.โ
โI overheard those two traffickers say it themselves. A biological mother kidnapping her own daughter,โ she said, her voice still tinged with disbelief.
โThanks,โ Bowenโs reply was curt.
It was a rainy night.
She had been kidnapped. The traffickers had been instructed not to harm her. A beat-up van sped down a mountain road. The girlโs shrill cries were haunting.
โSheโs been crying the whole way. Shut her up already!โ
โHer family doesnโt want her anyway, why not strangle her and bury her somewhere?โ
โI agree. Weโve already got the money.โ
Suddenly, the van screeched to a halt. A rough hand grabbed her neck.
Just then, a black Volkswagen slammed into the van.
The car had been modified, so the impact wasnโt too severe.
โKid, run!โ a voice shouted.
She was pulled from the van.
The traffickers chased after her. โRun! Run forward!โ
She didnโt know what happened afterward. The rain was heavy, and she kept running until she couldnโt anymore.
โThe patient collapsed from mental exhaustion and intense shock. Sheโll be fine after a good rest.โ
She woke up.
โSheโs awake. Go call someone!โ
Crackling noises filled the room.
Aubree frowned and slowly opened her eyes. โBree, how do you feel?โ
โMyโฆโ Her voice was painfully hoarse.
After sipping water, she clutched the cup. โBowen, I remember now. Everything that happened when I was kidnapped at five. A couple saved me. The manโฆ He looked a bit like you. Were they Alvinโs parents?โ
Bowen paused. He hadnโt expected her to recall everything like this.
He said, โYes. But donโt blame yourself. My brother went into politics partly for the familyโs benefit, but also because he truly wanted to do good. If he saw any child in danger, he wouldโve intervened.โ
Aubree gave a bitter smile. โSo Alvin knows too, doesnโt he?โ
She remembered the madness, the hatred in his eyes.
โYeah,โ Bowen said.
โSo he helped Carmen into the companyโฆ It wasnโt a coincidence, right?โ He wanted revenge, but when Bowen blocked him, he decided to drag him down too.
Aubree suddenly felt exhausted. โWhat do you think?โ
โDonโt worry. His heart is full of you.โ The door opened. A cool young voice replaced Bowenโs.
โAlvinโฆโ Aubree whispered.
Chapter 310
She could see hatred in Alvinโs eyes.
โIโm sorry,โ she murmured.
Alvin retorted, โSorry? Can that bring my parents back?โ
Aubree remembered his blood-soaked appearance and stopped speaking. Anything she said would be wrong.
โAubree, answer me. Will you leave Rithol City? If you agree never to let me see you again, weโre even.โ Alvinโs gaze was cold as ice.
Bowen snapped, โAlvin!โ
Alvin asked, โUncle Bowen, are you mad? Or just scared you canโt make her stay?โ
The Turner familyโs roots were in Rithol City. Bowen couldnโt leave, and if Aubree did, that meant separation.
Aubree took a deep breath. Bowen had been right. What mattered wasnโt guilt for surviving, but making her life meaningful in honor of those who saved her.
She held his cold hand. โWeโve been together so long. Canโt you trust me a little? Youโre Bowenโs nephew.โ
She continued, โAlvin, Iโm not leaving. If we canโt be friends anymore, and you want revenge, go ahead. Iโll fight back, but I wonโt hurt you.โ
Alvin sneered. โAs if I care.โ
โThe firewall sabotage was your doing, right? Did you help the Wilson family on purpose?โ Aubree asked the question that had haunted her.
Alvin answered, โYeah. Too bad the Wilsons were useless.โ
Aubree went cold all over. He really had thought about killing her.
She lowered her head. โI see.โ
Alvin had come to the hospital just to check on her, and now that he knew she remembered everything, he made no effort to hide his intentions.
It didnโt matter. There was still time. This wasnโt over.
After Alvin left, Aubree gripped Bowenโs hand tightly. โI wonโt leave you because of this.โ
Bowen looked into her determined eyes, but a bitter feeling twisted in his chest.
