Chapter 510

Nina glanced back at Alvin, then quickly followed Bowen. โ€œMr. Turner, thereโ€™s something I need to tell you. The one behind Aubreeโ€™s kidnapping might be Alice.โ€

โ€œI overheard those two traffickers say it themselves. A biological mother kidnapping her own daughter,โ€ she said, her voice still tinged with disbelief.

โ€œThanks,โ€ Bowenโ€™s reply was curt.

It was a rainy night.

She had been kidnapped. The traffickers had been instructed not to harm her. A beat-up van sped down a mountain road. The girlโ€™s shrill cries were haunting.

โ€œSheโ€™s been crying the whole way. Shut her up already!โ€

โ€œHer family doesnโ€™t want her anyway, why not strangle her and bury her somewhere?โ€

โ€œI agree. Weโ€™ve already got the money.โ€

Suddenly, the van screeched to a halt. A rough hand grabbed her neck.

Just then, a black Volkswagen slammed into the van.

The car had been modified, so the impact wasnโ€™t too severe.

โ€œKid, run!โ€ a voice shouted.

She was pulled from the van.

The traffickers chased after her. โ€œRun! Run forward!โ€

She didnโ€™t know what happened afterward. The rain was heavy, and she kept running until she couldnโ€™t anymore.

โ€œThe patient collapsed from mental exhaustion and intense shock. Sheโ€™ll be fine after a good rest.โ€

She woke up.

โ€œSheโ€™s awake. Go call someone!โ€

Crackling noises filled the room.

Aubree frowned and slowly opened her eyes. โ€œBree, how do you feel?โ€

โ€œMyโ€ฆโ€ Her voice was painfully hoarse.

After sipping water, she clutched the cup. โ€œBowen, I remember now. Everything that happened when I was kidnapped at five. A couple saved me. The manโ€ฆ He looked a bit like you. Were they Alvinโ€™s parents?โ€

Bowen paused. He hadnโ€™t expected her to recall everything like this.

He said, โ€œYes. But donโ€™t blame yourself. My brother went into politics partly for the familyโ€™s benefit, but also because he truly wanted to do good. If he saw any child in danger, he wouldโ€™ve intervened.โ€

Aubree gave a bitter smile. โ€œSo Alvin knows too, doesnโ€™t he?โ€

She remembered the madness, the hatred in his eyes.

โ€œYeah,โ€ Bowen said.

โ€œSo he helped Carmen into the companyโ€ฆ It wasnโ€™t a coincidence, right?โ€ He wanted revenge, but when Bowen blocked him, he decided to drag him down too.

Aubree suddenly felt exhausted. โ€œWhat do you think?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. His heart is full of you.โ€ The door opened. A cool young voice replaced Bowenโ€™s.

โ€œAlvinโ€ฆโ€ Aubree whispered.

She could see hatred in Alvinโ€™s eyes.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry,โ€ she murmured.

Alvin retorted, โ€œSorry? Can that bring my parents back?โ€

Aubree remembered his blood-soaked appearance and stopped speaking. Anything she said would be wrong.

โ€œAubree, answer me. Will you leave Rithol City? If you agree never to let me see you again, weโ€™re even.โ€ Alvinโ€™s gaze was cold as ice.

Bowen snapped, โ€œAlvin!โ€

Alvin asked, โ€œUncle Bowen, are you mad? Or just scared you canโ€™t make her stay?โ€

The Turner familyโ€™s roots were in Rithol City. Bowen couldnโ€™t leave, and if Aubree did, that meant separation.

Aubree took a deep breath. Bowen had been right. What mattered wasnโ€™t guilt for surviving, but making her life meaningful in honor of those who saved her.

She held his cold hand. โ€œWeโ€™ve been together so long. Canโ€™t you trust me a little? Youโ€™re Bowenโ€™s nephew.โ€

She continued, โ€œAlvin, Iโ€™m not leaving. If we canโ€™t be friends anymore, and you want revenge, go ahead. Iโ€™ll fight back, but I wonโ€™t hurt you.โ€

Alvin sneered. โ€œAs if I care.โ€

โ€œThe firewall sabotage was your doing, right? Did you help the Wilson family on purpose?โ€ Aubree asked the question that had haunted her.

Alvin answered, โ€œYeah. Too bad the Wilsons were useless.โ€

Aubree went cold all over. He really had thought about killing her.

She lowered her head. โ€œI see.โ€

Alvin had come to the hospital just to check on her, and now that he knew she remembered everything, he made no effort to hide his intentions.

It didnโ€™t matter. There was still time. This wasnโ€™t over.

After Alvin left, Aubree gripped Bowenโ€™s hand tightly. โ€œI wonโ€™t leave you because of this.โ€

Bowen looked into her determined eyes, but a bitter feeling twisted in his chest.
