Chapter 523

In the hospital ward, Aubree frowned, visibly troubled. Seeing this, Bowen was intrigued. โ€œRare to see you have something to worry about.โ€

Aubree lay comfortably on the hospital bed, openly accepting Bowenโ€™s attentive care. โ€œSophiaโ€™s death was unexpected. She was a critical piece in my plan. Originally, with Kateโ€™s help, it wouldโ€™ve been easy to expose Trevorโ€™s affair.โ€

She said, โ€œI wanted Sophia to cling to Trevor, either ruin his career completely or force him to give up his shares in the Wilson family to cover the scandal. But now sheโ€™s dead, and the dead canโ€™t testify.โ€

โ€œEven if Kate steps forward, the effect wonโ€™t be as strong. Trevor could still make a comeback after some time.โ€

She added, โ€œAt most, itโ€™ll just damage his image a bit, but the entertainment industry is a place with a short memory. As long as the Wilson family stands, with their money and his acting skills, heโ€™ll return to the top eventually.โ€

โ€œWho says making someone suffer must be about reputation or profit?โ€ Bowen smiled slyly, clearly having come up with another sinister idea.

Aubree looked over at him, her eyes wide with curiosity, silently urging him to continue.

Bowenโ€™s heart softened under her gaze. He said gently, โ€œAttack the heart. Trevor was willing to cut ties with Sophia for Kate. That shows Kate means something to him. If his lover, his friends, his family all turn away from himโ€ฆ Do you think he wonโ€™t break down?โ€

He added, โ€œAs far as I know, his agent, Skyler, has already written a resignation letter. He just hasnโ€™t sent it yet.โ€

Bowen smiled. โ€œBree, donโ€™t forget. You once helped him. Trevor is stupid enough to mistake the wrong person. Itโ€™s time you set the record straight and let him know who truly cared about him.โ€

Aubreeโ€™s eyes lit up. Trevor, proud and arrogant, had seen too much deceit and betrayal growing up. Deep down, he longed for pure, sincere emotional connections. Be it friendship or family, he craved true bonds.

Ironically, he never offered any sincerity himself, yet expected it from others.

But there really had been a fool in the past who gave him exactly that.

Aubree clenched her fists. โ€œHeโ€™ll collapse.โ€

And when someone collapsed emotionally, they would do irrational things.

โ€œThereโ€™s also the matter of your car accident.โ€ Bowen tapped her injured right leg, his eyes flashing darkly. โ€œIf we can prove he was behind hiring someone to kill you, he wonโ€™t get away.โ€

Aubree sighed. โ€œWe probably wonโ€™t find any proof in the short term. Trevor wouldnโ€™t have dared unless he was thoroughly prepared.โ€

Bowenโ€™s expression darkened. Heโ€™d already sent Kelvin to investigate, but the driver behind the crash turned out to be squeaky clean. The only lead was that years ago, the man had been in a case where his wife and daughter were murdered. In the act of self-defense, he killed someone and was ultimately acquitted. But the case was old. Digging into its connections would take time.

No one knew what methods Trevor had used to buy this manโ€™s loyalty.

Aubree hadnโ€™t even figured out how to โ€œnaturallyโ€ let Trevor learn the truth of the past when someone else conveniently did it for her.

The news of her supposed death in the crash spread fast, and the Wilson family was in shock.

At that moment, only Bryan and Ronald were there. Ronaldโ€™s first reaction was that Alice must have done it.

He had recently discovered some suspicious things, such as Aliceโ€™s old college flame looked strikingly like that young lover of hers, and that lover was somehow connected to Aubree.

It all fit. Alice had mentioned kidnapping Aubree before. Then, the car crash happened. He wasnโ€™t even surprised anymore. It felt inevitable.

โ€œIt mustโ€™ve been your mother!โ€ Ronald roared at Bryan. โ€œSheโ€™s my daughter, my biological daughter! It was because of her that things between us have fallen apart! And now she wants to kill my child?โ€

As much as he wanted Aubreeโ€™s company and talents back to help the business, his starting point was always she was his daughter.

He doted on his four sons, and of course he loved his daughter.

Ronaldโ€™s voice trembled with fury. Even when he agreed to Aliceโ€™s plan to kidnap Aubree, it was on the condition that she wouldnโ€™t be harmed.

Bryan was also stunned. He only ever wanted Aubree to lose her ability to compete for the company. If she had agreed to just be the pampered young lady of the Wilson family, he wouldโ€™ve spoiled her too. But she was dead.

The thought hovered in his mind. His feelings were complicated. But mostly, it hurt more than it pleased him. โ€œLetโ€™s ask Mom first,โ€ Bryan said softly.

Ronaldโ€™s face darkened as he dialed Aliceโ€™s number.

Alice was at Daxtonโ€™s lab at the time. Worried about her shaky relationship with Ronald, she was still trying to get Daxton to transfer his shares to Carmen.

โ€œMom, Carmen is my sister. No matter what happens or whoโ€™s involved, Iโ€™ll always stand by her,โ€ Daxton said.

Alice was about to ask more, especially about the shares, when Ronaldโ€™s call came through.

โ€œWhere are you right now?โ€ he growled urgently.

Alice replied, โ€œIโ€™m with Daxton. Why?โ€

โ€œBring him back immediately. I need to ask you something.โ€ He wanted them home before talking further.

Alice was dazed by the fury in his voice. She didnโ€™t know what had happened.

Without a word, she grabbed Daxton and headed back to the Wilson family residence. โ€œDaxton, somethingโ€™s happened.โ€

Daxton asked, โ€œDad called? He didnโ€™t say what happened?โ€

Alice replied, โ€œNo, but he sounded very urgent.โ€

Daxtonโ€™s eyes flickered. โ€œMomโ€ฆ did you hear the news about Aubreeโ€™s car crash? Rumor has itโ€ฆ she died.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Alice gasped. Sheโ€™d seen the news earlier but hadnโ€™t paid much attention.

She couldnโ€™t believe it. She felt lost. โ€˜Aubree is dead?โ€™

Her first reaction wasnโ€™t joy. She remembered Aubree as a baby. She was so small, so adorable.

Alice had struggled with that decision too. But after everything sheโ€™d suffered in the Wilson family, she couldnโ€™t bear to let her other daughter grow up parentless and alone.

And now, Aubree was dead.

Daxton remained calm. Watching his mother teeter on the brink of collapse, he said quietly, โ€œMom, do you think Dad will suspect you had something to do with Aubreeโ€™s accident?โ€

Aliceโ€™s face went pale. โ€œI donโ€™t knowโ€ฆ Letโ€™s go back first.โ€

It turned out, Daxtonโ€™s guess was dead on.

The moment they stepped through the doors, Ronald slapped her across the face.

He snapped, โ€œAlice, have you gone mad? You really tried to kill your own daughter! Youโ€™re heartless! You killed Aubree! Is your next target me?โ€
