Chapter 534
โLetโs take a vote. Who agrees to count Ms. Millerโs shares in this election first?โ Bryan said.
โOtherwise, weโll have to do it all over again later. Thatโs a hassle, isnโt it?โ he added.
Bryanโs side had the numbers, so this vote was obviously going to work out in his favor.
He was completely at ease, knowing he had nothing to worry about.
Everyone in Bryanโs camp was sure the win was already in the bag.
Out of nowhere, something totally unexpected happened. Everyone stared in shock as Bowen raised his hand as he stated, โI agree too.โ
โIs Bowen out of his mind?โ someone muttered.
The attendees wondered, โWasnโt he just handing the chairmanship to Bryan on a silver platter?โ
Everyone instinctively turned to look at Birgitte. Even though she didnโt hold many shares, everyone knew that if Aubree was the chairperson of Bree Technology, then Birgitte was her most loyal and trusted aide.
Birgitte stood there with her arms crossed, not giving away the slightest hint of her opinion.
โMr. Turner actually agreed to it,โ someone whispered in disbelief.
โOf course,โ Bowen replied as he wondered, โWhy wouldnโt I agree?โ
Bryan frowned deeply as he probed, โIn that case, Aubreeโs shares should be counted under the Wilson family. There are no objections, right?โ
He gestured to someone nearby, signaling to wrap things up quickly.
โWell then, the results of this shareholdersโ meeting are in. The new director isโฆโ
โWhy the rush?โ Just then, the door to the conference room swung open, and Vincent walked in.
โMr. Sloan? Didnโt he take a leave of absence?โ someone asked.
Ever since Aubreeโs accident, aside from Bowen, the two most popular people in the company were Vincent and Birgitte, as they were Aubreeโs most trusted aides.
Unlike Birgitte, Vincent had immediately taken a leave of absence.
His direct supervisor was Aubree, and with her gone, he just approved his own leave.
Bryanโs unease hit an all-time high. He stared almost desperately at the space behind Vincent, his eyes full of longing as he thought, โPlease, let it not be what I think.โ
โItโs Ms. Miller!โ someone shouted. Another sharp-eyed person had already spotted a figure in a wheelchair.
Aubree was sitting in the wheelchair, her hands resting casually on her lap as a bodyguard pushed her in.
Bowen quickly stepped forward, taking over from the bodyguard and pushing her to the head of the conference table. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, โReturned to the rightful owner?โ
โI was thrown out in the first place,โ Aubree corrected him.
Bowen let out a laugh. Standing beside Aubree, he glanced at Bryanโs stunned face with a smirk, โMr. Wilson, you donโt really look like you want to see Bree right now.โ
Did he really not want to see her? That was not quite true.
When Bryan saw Aubree sitting there safe and sound, his first reaction was that Bree Technology was now out of his reach. But right after that, he actually felt relieved as she was at least okay.
โWould you really let a sure thing slip through your fingers?โ Aubree shot Bowen a glance as she commented.
Bowen shrugged with one hand in his pocket and responded, โWell, that depends on who weโre talking about.โ
โIf I were in Mr. Wilsonโs shoes right now, Iโd be absolutely thrilled,โ he added with sarcasm practically dripping from his voice. He might as well have had a neon sign flashing, โLook at me, Iโm totally sucking up.โ
The faces of the other shareholders were a mix of emotions. Those with guilty consciences looked downright terrified, already dreading what Aubree might do to them once this was all over.
โHow come nobody bothered to let me know about such an important meeting?โ Aubree rested her chin in her hand, glancing around at everyone in the room as she questioned.
Everyone looked guilty and kept their mouths shut. โNotify you? How the heck were we supposed to do that?โ they collectively thought.
Almost everyone had just assumed that Aubree really had been in an accident, and that Bowen was just using it as an excuse to grab power and keep everyone in the dark.
