Chapter 541
Daxton exaggerated the whole incident when he told the others about it. None of them rushed to help Carmen, but everyone agreed that Trevor was out of line. โIt was his own mess, so why take it out on someone else?โ they thought.
โHeading to the Mistmere?โ Daxton asked.
Even though Aubree was fine, Carmen couldnโt afford to stop moving forward. Every step she took now was for her future self, and she couldnโt stop. Everyone at the company knew she and Bryan didnโt get along. Aubree might still be holding something over her head, and this was a bomb that could go off at any time and send her crashing down. She had to get what she wanted, and fast.
โYeah, Uncle said thereโs a project over there, a collaboration between the Diamonde Group and the Wilson Group. He gave me the information ahead of time, hoping I could snag it before Bryan does,โ Carmen nodded sweetly in response. โDaxton, do you think Iโm a traitor for going after the same project as Bryan?โ
Daxton looked surprised that sheโd even think that, and reassured, โHow could you say that? Itโs all about who can do the job better. Bryanโs already got the general manager position locked down. Once Dad retires, heโll be the next CEO. Youโre just trying to do more for the family. Itโs not like youโre being selfish. If anything, heโs the one being petty."
โI know you can do it, Carmen. If you need anything, just let me know. I looked into it, and the place youโre going to is pretty rough. Itโs not developed yet, and even though summerโs just ended, itโs still hot. Make sure to watch out for mosquitoes and bugs. Iโll come visit you when I can.โ
Carmenโs face lit up with gratitude and replied, โDaxton, itโs so nice to have you around.โ
โI also heard that the Turner Group and Bree Technology might be interested in this project too, so keep an eye out,โ Daxton added.
โThe Turner Group?โ Carmen wondered to herself. She hadnโt heard about that, but she heard that lately, most things at the Turner Group were being handled by Alvin. โSo did that mean Alvin would be heading to Mistmere too?โ she wondered. After heโd unexpectedly helped her out last time, heโd gone right back to ignoring her like before. โThis is a golden opportunity for me!โ Carmen thought.
While her thoughts were already drifting far away, Carmen still flashed Daxton a sweet smile, โI know. Iโll be careful.โ
Meanwhile, Vincent was filling Aubree in on the latest news.
โWhoโs representing the Wilson Group for this project?โ Aubree asked.
โRumor has it itโs Carmen, but Bryan doesnโt seem willing to let it go either,โ Vincent replied.
Aubree replied, โOh. Did you book the flight to the Mistmere?โ
โYeah, itโs booked,โ Vincent said, sounding a bit hesitant. โButโฆ Mr. Turner asked me to get him a ticket too. Look, everyone knows about your relationship with Mr. Turner, but this project is a big deal, and it even has some government connections. Are you sure itโs appropriate for Mr. Turner to get involved?โ
Aubree smiled in response, โGo ahead and book it. Heโs not going as Mr. Turner this time. Heโs going as a shareholder of Bree Technology. The person in charge of this project for the Turner Group should be Alvin, right?โ
โYeah, thatโs right,โ Vincent replied.
Aubree let out a sigh as she thought, โSo I really canโt escape this after all!โ
The board had discussed that this project was the redevelopment plan for Ridgehaven Town in Mistmere. The government had tried to handle it themselves at first, investing both money and effort, but the villagers were all holdouts and refused to cooperate. Ultimately, the government decided to open it up to the private sector, inviting several companies to bid for the project. Whoever could get the demolition consent forms signed first would win the project.
Lately, the company was looking to expand into new fields, and if they could land this project, it would be their ticket into the real estate industry, and not to mention, it would earn them some goodwill with the government. It was a win on all fronts.
Bree Technology, a company with no background or experience in this industry, wasnโt originally on the list of invited companies. But thanks to her connections at the research institute, Aubree got a tip-off: Mistmere was about to be included in a major redevelopment plan. If she could secure this project, all future redevelopment projects in Mistmere would basically be hers for the taking.
Thatโs exactly why big groups like the Wilson Group and the Turner Group were taking it so seriously.
