Chapter 67

Listen to this chapter:

It was a day off.

Aubree rubbed her temples and got up from bed. It wasnโ€™t until her phone calendar alert reminded her that she remembered it was her birthday.

With Playzyโ€™s launch these past few days and her schoolwork piling up, sheโ€™d been running like a spinning top. Sheโ€™d completely forgotten about her birthday.

Aubree had never expected much from birthdays. Back at the orphanage, birthdays were a luxury no one dared to hope for. Later, after returning to the Wilson family, every birthday was celebrated with Carmen. Carmen was the star of the show, and Aubree was nothing.

It didnโ€™t matter to Aubree. No one cared anyway.

With a self-mocking smile, Aubree got up to wash up, planning to review Odionlandian in the morning and then visit the club.

The annual finals were about to start next week. If they could take the championship again, Godโ€™s Fury would officially enter the public eye.

Around noon, Aubree went to the club. At that time, everyone was just waking up one after another.

She looked around and didnโ€™t see Alvin or Matilda.

Given the upcoming match, the two shouldโ€™ve been here for joint training whenever they had time. She hadnโ€™t heard they were busy either.

Feeling puzzled, Aubree happened to see Leroy coming downstairs. โ€œAlvin and Matilda didnโ€™t come?โ€

Seeing it was her, Leroy looked flustered for a second, then quickly composed himself and looked around evasively. โ€œNot sure. Maybe they had something to do.โ€

Aubree narrowed her eyes, thinking they had something to hide from her.

Unable to guess what they might be up to, she didnโ€™t press further. โ€œGot it. I came to check on your training progress.โ€

Once it came to business, Leroy looked confident. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Weโ€™ll definitely bring you back a trophy. The new mid-laner is strong. Weโ€™re syncing up well.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t forget to chill the champagne early.โ€ Seeing everyone in good form, Aubree gave the new mid-laner some pointers on finer techniques and then left.

Compared to Aubreeโ€™s usual routine, today was an extremely different day for the Wilson family.

Their beloved youngest daughter was turning eighteen.

Alice called back all four older brothers; even Ronald wasnโ€™t spared.

The Wilson family hosted todayโ€™s event. Though Bryan was reluctant, for the familyโ€™s reputation, they had to keep up appearances.

Daxton didnโ€™t need to be reminded. He had finished all his lab work early so he could spend the day with his beloved little sister.

Trevor was still filming but had already said heโ€™d return early.

Emery, on the other hand, showed his displeasure openly. These days, he didnโ€™t even want to go home. He preferred to stay at the club or in his own apartment.

When Alice told him to come home for Carmenโ€™s birthday, the first thing he said when he arrived was, โ€œAubreeโ€™s not coming?โ€

He didnโ€™t even try to hide his attitude, nearly driving Alice into a rage.

Emery was adamant. โ€œIf Aubreeโ€™s not coming for the birthday, then I wonโ€™t stay here.โ€

โ€œAlright. Today is Carmenโ€™s birthday, donโ€™t stir trouble. Relax, Aubree will come back.โ€ Ronald stepped in to calm things down. He firmly believed Aubree wouldnโ€™t abandon the Wilson family.

He had made his intentions clear, given Aubree the Wilson family name she always wanted. She was bound to come back.

โ€œHoney, did you prepare the custom dress I asked for Aubree? I had Wendy waiting at the gate. Once she sees Aubree, sheโ€™s to take her straight to get her hair and makeup done.โ€ Ronald was so confident that when inviting guests, he said it was a joint birthday celebration for both daughters.

When he brought up the dress, Alice turned her eyes away guiltily. โ€œYes, itโ€™s ready.โ€

Alice never planned to follow his instructions and give Carmenโ€™s dress to Aubree. Nothing of Carmenโ€™s should be taken by Aubree.

Her plan was to prepare any random dress, but Daxton told her that since everyone was focused on Carmenโ€™s birthday, no one would notice if something went wrong with Aubreeโ€™s dress. But if anything did go wrong, the Wilson family would lose face.

Since Aubree and Carmen had similar builds, they could just give Aubree one of Carmenโ€™s old dresses. That would be safer and less of a hassle.

Alice went with the idea. So, in reality, no new dress was ever prepared for Aubree.

Ronald didnโ€™t notice her guilty look and assumed everything had been properly arranged.

โ€œAlright, Emery. If youโ€™ve got nothing else to do, go rest in your room.โ€ His tone had a hint of warning.

Recently, there were online rumors of discord within the Wilson family, which affected the companyโ€™s shares. Everyone had to be present at tonightโ€™s party, no exceptions.

Emery was annoyed but could only grumble, โ€œGot it.โ€

A bit later, Trevor came back.

Their mom was upstairs with Carmen doing her makeup, and Emery wasnโ€™t home. Their dad was contacting guests.

Only Bryan and Daxton were handling the party preparations.

Seeing him return, Bryan greeted him. โ€œTrevor, youโ€™re back. Busy with filming lately?โ€

Trevor replied, โ€œItโ€™s been okay. Of course, I made time to come home for my sisterโ€™s birthday.โ€

Then, Daxton chimed in with a mood-killing remark. โ€œThe question is, which sister are you here for?โ€

Trevor smiled diplomatically. โ€œYou know who.โ€

He played it safe. Then he mentioned how Aubree had visited his filming set recently.

Trevor said, โ€œThe female lead, Sylvia, said Aubree came to discuss some live-stream collaboration, but I donโ€™t think Aubree is capable of something like that.โ€

Heโ€™d been too busy with filming lately and hadnโ€™t kept up with the news. He didnโ€™t know that Playzy had already launched and gone viral. Even when he saw some headlines, he never made the connection to Aubree.

Daxton was even more clueless. Heโ€™d been sacrificing sleep to make time for Carmenโ€™s birthday prep.

He gave the same opinion as Trevor had before.

Daxton said, โ€œShe wasnโ€™t there to talk business. She was just trying to get close to you. Donโ€™t fall for it. Aubreeโ€™s always scheming.โ€

Trevor nodded. โ€œThatโ€™s what I thought too. She never came back after those two days.โ€

โ€œProbably saw you didnโ€™t fall for her and gave up.โ€ Daxton folded his arms with a cold sneer.

Just then, Wendy came rushing in, looking flustered. Daxton frowned. โ€œWendy, what are you panicking for? Didnโ€™t Dad tell you to wait forโ€ฆ?โ€

Wendy replied, โ€œMr. Daxton Wilson, thatโ€™s exactly why Iโ€™m looking for Mr. Ronald Wilson.โ€

โ€˜What did she mean?โ€™ Daxton glanced toward the door. โ€˜Did Aubree arrive?โ€™

He said, โ€œSo what if she did? Why all the fuss?โ€

โ€œNoโ€ฆโ€ Wendy became more anxious. She had seen how Ronald was dead set on Aubree coming today. But as someone whoโ€™d observed everything over the years, she knew very well what kind of life Aubree had in this household.

Seeing that Aubree still hadnโ€™t shown up, Wendy sent a message to check in. Aubree never even intended to come back.

Wendy couldnโ€™t wait any longer. It would upset Ronald and ultimately hurt his reputation.

โ€œMiss Miller wonโ€™t come back here!โ€ Wendy blurted it out and rushed off to find Ronald, leaving Daxton dumbfounded.

Bryanโ€™s expression turned thoughtful. He looked at Trevor. โ€œTrevor, is Aubreeโ€™s company called Bree Technology?โ€

Unlike the other two, Bryan had been paying attention. With how viral Playzy had become, heโ€™d already started looking into it.

Now, hearing what Trevor said, he had a hunch. โ€œI think thatโ€™s the name.โ€

Bryan replied, โ€œThen Aubree probably didnโ€™t come to look for you after all.โ€

He continued, โ€œRecently, a new live-stream app called Playzy launched. It shot to the top of app stores overnight. And according to financial estimates, the companyโ€™s revenue in just a few days has conservatively exceeded 30 million dollars.โ€

Trevorโ€™s eyes widened in disbelief. He couldnโ€™t imagine those numbers having anything to do with Aubree.

Daxton was equally shocked.
