Chapter 102 Screw Up

The pressure in his head was driving him insane.

With things blown up this big, trying to sweep it under the rug was damn near impossible.

A thought suddenly flashed through Dominicโ€™s mind. Almost without thinking, he muttered, โ€œHackingโ€ฆโ€

Everyone snapped their eyes to him.

โ€œIf Tilda knew her way around hackingโ€”if she had some kind of app on her phoneโ€”then using the campus Wi-Fi, she couldโ€™ve copied every single video before they were deleted.โ€

Dominic wasnโ€™t just throwing words around. Heโ€™d studied hacking himselfโ€”ranked 11th on the dark web board and rumored to be the apprentice of the infamous Queen.

Other than this explanation, Dominic couldnโ€™t think of any possibility.

โ€œTildaโ€ฆ a hacker?โ€

Russell was stunned.

Just how many masks is this girl hiding behind?

โ€œItโ€™s very possible,โ€ Dominic went on, his voice sharp, eyes narrowing with a cold glint. โ€œIโ€™ve seen her talent and obsession with coding firsthand. If sheโ€™s capable of beating my records so easily, then her being a top-tier hacker wouldnโ€™t surprise me at all.โ€

Who wouldโ€™ve thoughtโ€ฆ

Tilda has been hiding this card all along.

It wasnโ€™t just Russell who had underestimated her.

Even Dominic had.

Who wouldโ€™ve thought a so-called โ€œordinary college girlโ€ could have that kind of power?

But if she did have it, then suddenly it made senseโ€”her close ties with Andy, the renowned lawyer.

It all lined up.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Dad, Dominicโ€ฆ itโ€™s my fault. I got careless and never checked Fionaโ€™s phoneโ€ฆโ€

Howardโ€™s gut twisted with regret.

The way things had blown up, the way it had gotten so tangledโ€”that was on him.

Heโ€™d gone soft. Let guilt get in the way.

He wanted to slam his own head against the wall.

โ€œItโ€™s not on you, Howard,โ€ Dominic said flatly. โ€œIf Tildaโ€™s really working at that level, you never wouldโ€™ve caught her by scrolling through her phone. Sheโ€™d have hidden it six layers deep.โ€

Dominic leaned forward. โ€œWhat I need to know isโ€”how much time did you actually have to clean things up?โ€

โ€œBarely any. Dad walked out of the dining hall, and I jumped in with campus security right after. The first order of business was wiping the surveillance.

โ€œI checked my watchโ€”under five minutes, tops. Iโ€™m sure of it.โ€

Five minutesโ€ฆ

That wasnโ€™t enough time.

Dominicโ€™s jaw tightened.

Hacking into a studentโ€™s phone and ripping the videosโ€”

And on top of that, breaking into campus surveillance?

With all the chaos flying around, five minutes was nothing. Hell, it was probably less.

Pulling off both hacks at once? Even Iโ€”Mr. 11th place on the dark web boardsโ€”couldnโ€™t have done it.

But Tilda had. Sheโ€™d actually pulled it off.

What else is she keeping under wraps? What the hell else had she buried so deep even I couldnโ€™t sniff it out?

Looking at her, youโ€™d never guessโ€ฆ She blends in like any other college kid. But underneath? Sheโ€™s something else entirely.

โ€œDomโ€ฆโ€

Roseโ€™s voice cut through the silence.

He forced himself to pull back from his shock over Tilda and turned to face her. โ€œSorry, Rose. We screwed this up badly. Iโ€™ll make it right and cover the loss.โ€

โ€œYou really dropped the ball this time. Forget going toe-to-toe with Andyโ€”evidence like this means even if Tilda had hired someone else, any halfway decent lawyer wouldโ€™ve had you dead to rights.โ€

She let out a quiet sigh. โ€œButโ€ฆ you and I go back a long way. So Iโ€™ll let it slide this time, and Iโ€™ll help you figure out how to cut your losses.โ€

โ€œThank you, Rose,โ€

When Wade and Kyla got the news, they dropped everything at Orica University and rushed back home.

The only one waiting in the living room was Howard.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Dad?โ€ they asked in unison.

โ€œHeโ€™s in the study with Dominic. Theyโ€™re handling company business and trying to figure out how the hell to manage this mess,โ€ Howard muttered, rubbing at his scalp until his hair stood on end. His eyes were bloodshot.

Heโ€™d never hated his own uselessness more than he did right now.

At a moment like this, he couldnโ€™t do a damn thing to help.

โ€œHoward, Wadeโ€”how did it get this far? We had Rose on our side. We were supposed to have the upper hand in this trial!โ€

Kylaโ€™s voice cracked; her eyes were already brimming with tears.

Howard opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

His chest clenched so tight it hurt.

This was on him. All of it.

Wade saw the guilt written all over his face and put a hand on Kylaโ€™s shoulder. โ€œEnough. Stop blaming him. None of us wanted this. All we can do now is trust Mom and Dad to figure it out.โ€

โ€œB-But, Wadeโ€ฆโ€ Kyla sobbed, grabbing onto him.

โ€œThis is my fault,โ€ she cried. โ€œItโ€™s all because of me. If Iโ€™d never been part of this family, none of this wouldโ€™ve happened. Tilda wouldnโ€™t haveโ€ฆ wouldnโ€™t haveโ€ฆ

โ€œI hate myself for it! I shouldnโ€™t even be alive!โ€
