Chapter 120: I Didnโt Know
Tilda recited the Jensonsโ filthy, disgraceful actions one by one. Her face was expressionless, and her voice was calm. It was as if she were talking about someone elseโs life, but with every word, Wadeโs face darkened even more. By the time she finished, Wade was completely stunned.
โNoโฆ that canโt beโฆ Dominic wouldnโt do something like that. He told me it was just a smokescreenโฆโ
When Wade went to help out at the Jenson Group, other rival companiesโand even Judeโhad already gotten involved. They wiped out all the comments left by the online trolls hired by the Jenson Group, so he never even realized what had happened. Russell and the others had told him that as long as he played along, this would all blow over quickly. But the way they handled itโฆ Did the Jensons really go that far and use those dirty tricks to ruin Tildaโs name?
Wade started to feel cold all over, like he didnโt even know who to trust anymore. He couldnโt even look Tilda in the eye, squirming with guilt.
โIf you really cared, Wade, youโd know the truth. You went along with the Jensons and lied at the press conference, and now you pretend you knew nothing? Disgusting. And deep down, you know you fainted because you couldnโt handle the pressure. When you spoke at the press conference, wasnโt it all just clever lies to make me look like the bad guy?โ
Tilda had never met a man as shameless and worthless as Wade. If you did it, then own up to it. Whatโs so hard about that? If youโre so embarrassed, then why did you do those things in the first place? He did all those shady things, yet he still wanted to play the victim and act clueless in front of me? What a joke. Seriously, itโs disgusting!
Tilda couldnโt believe sheโd once lost sleep and shed tears over a brother like him. Thinking about it made her want to strangle herself. How stupid could she have been?
โThatโs enough, Tilda. Wade really didnโt know anything. Dominic and I came up with the idea,โ Howard muttered, knowing how shameful it sounded, but he believed it was for the good of the Jensons. He didnโt think heโd done anything wrong. His only regret was not stopping Blair from bringing Tilda back. If heโd known Tilda would turn out to be such an ungrateful leech, he would have done anythingโeven skipped his competition and rushed back to stop Tilda from ever returning to the Jensons!
So what if they slandered Tilda? If she hadnโt been so petty and unforgiving, things never would have gotten this bad. Russell only misunderstood Tilda because he was worried about Wadeโs injury. He was Tildaโs biological father! Couldnโt Tilda have been a little more understanding? If it werenโt for Russell, Tilda wouldnโt even exist. And letโs not even mention all the things Tilda did out of jealousy toward Kylaโฆ. Howard didnโt feel guilty toward Tilda at all. Not one bit.
โHoward, youโฆโ Wade stared at Howard in disbelief. It was like he was seeing Howard for who he was for the first time in his life. Why? Howard isnโt supposed to be like this. He was hot-tempered, but deep down he always valued justice. Of the seven Jenson brothers, Howard was the last one he thought would ever stoop to such dirty tricks. Even if it was for the Jensons, what Howard did was just too much.
โWade, donโt look at me like that. Iโve always said that Iโd do anything for the Jensons, for our family. Iโd even give up my own life for them without a second thought. I didnโt want to tell you because I knew youโd overthink things, but now you know. And Tilda, donโt forget what you did to us. You teamed up with our enemies, spread rumors, and tanked the stock price. You even tried to manipulate public opinion and drag the Jenson Group down. Donโt pretend youโre the only victim here. We were just fighting back.โ
Howard truly didnโt think heโd done anything wrong. He also thought Wade was making a big deal out of nothing. He believed that, as long as it was for the Jensons, any dirty trick was justified. For family, every line could be crossed.
โThanks for the show, Howard. Iโve really learned something today.โ Tilda actually started clapping for Howard.
โTildaโฆ Iโฆ I really didnโt know. I had no idea Dominic and the others would go that farโฆ.โ Wadeโs voice started to shake. He felt like the values heโd believed in since he was a kid were crumbling. He never imagined his own brother would use such underhanded tricks on a woman, especially when that woman wasnโt some enemy. She was the sister theyโd lost for 19 years!
โWade, arenโt you tired of pretending? Iโm sick of watching your pathetic act.โ
