Chapter 153 The Truth Hurts
The driver got out of the car, his dark circles impossible to hide.
Blair didnโt look much better. Obviously, she hadnโt slept all night and had probably waited for Tilda outside her condominium.
Tilda ignored Blair and started to walk away.
โTilda! Iโm talking to you. I said, letโs talk!โ
Blair was surprised to discover she wasnโt even angry. She was used to Tildaโs coldness by now. Today, she just wanted answers from Tilda. She needed something and didnโt want another situation like Russellโs.
Blair forced herself to be patient and spoke gently. โAnd why do you think that just because you want to talk, I have to stand here and listen? Who do you think you are?โ
Tilda didnโt hold back. She looked at Blair, her sarcasm cutting deep. She didnโt treat this woman like her mother at all.
โTilda, I know you hate me. You hate our family. If I could, I wouldnโt have come to you. Honestly, I wish Iโd never looked for you in the first place. Maybe then, this family would still be like they used to be, and youโd be living a better life, without all this hate shadowing everything. But the truth is, no matter how much I regret it or want to deny it, I still have to face it. I donโt want anything to do with you anymore. I donโt want to look for you or even see you. But this time, itโs about Dominic. I have no choice but to find you!โ
โOh?โ Tildaโs lips curled up in a mocking smile. โSomething about Dominic, and itโs got to do with me?โ She repeated Blairโs words as if she was trying them out, tasting the meaning. Had Dominic actually told the family what happened? Thatโs ridiculous. Did he really share something so embarrassing with his family? If he did, Tilda almost wanted to give him a round of applause for being shameless.
โLast night, Dominic had a high fever and passed out. Jody found him, and he was a mess. Jody said Dominic started acting strangely after meeting you. Heโs not the same as he used to be. He felt sad and guilty because of you. Dominic would do anything you asked and even humbled himself. So what happened? Tilda, what had you done to Dominic?โ Blairโs voice grew louder, getting worked up. Her eyes were full of blame for Tilda and regret for herself. Blair resented herself. She was still regretting everything, more than ever.
She kept telling herself to stay calm and stop getting worked up, but she couldnโt do it. If she hadnโt insisted on bringing Tilda home, would her family not have ended up in this mess? Everything was in chaos now, nothing like the happy, peaceful life they had before.
Tilda suddenly leaned in close when Blair lost her cool. Her eyes were cold, so sharp they seemed to cut right through Blair, who stepped back, startled by the sudden change in Tildaโs attitude. The chill coming off Tilda was so intense that even Blair, who was always tough, felt goosebumps. Why did her daughter, so young, give off such a powerful sense of pressure? Whenever Tildaโs eyes turned cold, even Blair struggled not to crumble.
โOh, you really want to know? Donโt blame me if your world falls apart when you learn the truth.โ
Blair bit her tongue, forcing herself not to lose to Tildaโs presence. She couldnโt let herself be crushed. If she did, what pride would she have left as a mother?
โSay it!โ
โI poisoned Dominic,โ Tilda said calmly. โThe poison was deadly. Thereโs no cure in this world. Now Dominic is just my puppet. If I tell him to live, he lives. He dies if I tell him to. He has to obey my every command, no questions asked. If I asked him to get down on all fours and lick my shoes, heโd have to do it. Howโs that? Is that exciting enough for you?โ She stared as Blairโs face turned even paler. Tilda felt a wave of twisted satisfaction for getting her revenge. After all the pain Dominic had caused her, this was payback. Her mood actually improved.
โHow could you, Tilda!โ Blairโs eyes were red, like a lioness whose cub was in danger. She grabbed Tildaโs collar, gritting her teeth. โHeโs your brother, your blood! How could you do this to him? Are you insane?"
โBrother? Have you ever treated me like your daughter? When did Dominic ever treat me like a real sister? Did you know? Do you know the only thing Dominic ever said to me in secret? He wished I were dead. He wanted me gone, out of this world, so I wouldnโt ruin his perfect, happy life! Someone like him? Heโd be lucky to die. I want him to wish he had never been born!โ
Blair demanded, โYouโre lying! Dominic is such a good kidโheโd never say something so vile! I wonโt fall for your tricks. Give me the antidote, now!โ
