Chapter 153 The Truth Hurts

The driver got out of the car, his dark circles impossible to hide.

Blair didnโ€™t look much better. Obviously, she hadnโ€™t slept all night and had probably waited for Tilda outside her condominium.

Tilda ignored Blair and started to walk away.

โ€œTilda! Iโ€™m talking to you. I said, letโ€™s talk!โ€

Blair was surprised to discover she wasnโ€™t even angry. She was used to Tildaโ€™s coldness by now. Today, she just wanted answers from Tilda. She needed something and didnโ€™t want another situation like Russellโ€™s.

Blair forced herself to be patient and spoke gently. โ€œAnd why do you think that just because you want to talk, I have to stand here and listen? Who do you think you are?โ€

Tilda didnโ€™t hold back. She looked at Blair, her sarcasm cutting deep. She didnโ€™t treat this woman like her mother at all.

โ€œTilda, I know you hate me. You hate our family. If I could, I wouldnโ€™t have come to you. Honestly, I wish Iโ€™d never looked for you in the first place. Maybe then, this family would still be like they used to be, and youโ€™d be living a better life, without all this hate shadowing everything. But the truth is, no matter how much I regret it or want to deny it, I still have to face it. I donโ€™t want anything to do with you anymore. I donโ€™t want to look for you or even see you. But this time, itโ€™s about Dominic. I have no choice but to find you!โ€

โ€œOh?โ€ Tildaโ€™s lips curled up in a mocking smile. โ€œSomething about Dominic, and itโ€™s got to do with me?โ€ She repeated Blairโ€™s words as if she was trying them out, tasting the meaning. Had Dominic actually told the family what happened? Thatโ€™s ridiculous. Did he really share something so embarrassing with his family? If he did, Tilda almost wanted to give him a round of applause for being shameless.

โ€œLast night, Dominic had a high fever and passed out. Jody found him, and he was a mess. Jody said Dominic started acting strangely after meeting you. Heโ€™s not the same as he used to be. He felt sad and guilty because of you. Dominic would do anything you asked and even humbled himself. So what happened? Tilda, what had you done to Dominic?โ€ Blairโ€™s voice grew louder, getting worked up. Her eyes were full of blame for Tilda and regret for herself. Blair resented herself. She was still regretting everything, more than ever.

She kept telling herself to stay calm and stop getting worked up, but she couldnโ€™t do it. If she hadnโ€™t insisted on bringing Tilda home, would her family not have ended up in this mess? Everything was in chaos now, nothing like the happy, peaceful life they had before.

Tilda suddenly leaned in close when Blair lost her cool. Her eyes were cold, so sharp they seemed to cut right through Blair, who stepped back, startled by the sudden change in Tildaโ€™s attitude. The chill coming off Tilda was so intense that even Blair, who was always tough, felt goosebumps. Why did her daughter, so young, give off such a powerful sense of pressure? Whenever Tildaโ€™s eyes turned cold, even Blair struggled not to crumble.

โ€œOh, you really want to know? Donโ€™t blame me if your world falls apart when you learn the truth.โ€

Blair bit her tongue, forcing herself not to lose to Tildaโ€™s presence. She couldnโ€™t let herself be crushed. If she did, what pride would she have left as a mother?

โ€œSay it!โ€

โ€œI poisoned Dominic,โ€ Tilda said calmly. โ€œThe poison was deadly. Thereโ€™s no cure in this world. Now Dominic is just my puppet. If I tell him to live, he lives. He dies if I tell him to. He has to obey my every command, no questions asked. If I asked him to get down on all fours and lick my shoes, heโ€™d have to do it. Howโ€™s that? Is that exciting enough for you?โ€ She stared as Blairโ€™s face turned even paler. Tilda felt a wave of twisted satisfaction for getting her revenge. After all the pain Dominic had caused her, this was payback. Her mood actually improved.

โ€œHow could you, Tilda!โ€ Blairโ€™s eyes were red, like a lioness whose cub was in danger. She grabbed Tildaโ€™s collar, gritting her teeth. โ€œHeโ€™s your brother, your blood! How could you do this to him? Are you insane?"

โ€œBrother? Have you ever treated me like your daughter? When did Dominic ever treat me like a real sister? Did you know? Do you know the only thing Dominic ever said to me in secret? He wished I were dead. He wanted me gone, out of this world, so I wouldnโ€™t ruin his perfect, happy life! Someone like him? Heโ€™d be lucky to die. I want him to wish he had never been born!โ€

Blair demanded, โ€œYouโ€™re lying! Dominic is such a good kidโ€”heโ€™d never say something so vile! I wonโ€™t fall for your tricks. Give me the antidote, now!โ€
