Out Of The Shadows: Tildaโ€™s Brilliant Second Life Chapter 03

Chapter 3 The Slap That Never Came

โ€œWhat did you just say?โ€

Russell stared at her like he couldnโ€™t believe his ears. Even Wade froze.

โ€œI said why should I apologize? This isnโ€™t the Middle Ages. Are you really going to punish your daughter like a criminal?โ€ Tildaโ€™s voice was calm, almost too calm.

Her eyes were steady and cold, revealing almost nothing.

But deep down, there was a sparkโ€“one that had nothing to do with the Jensons. Sheโ€™d given up on them long ago.

When love dies, hatred goes with it. Her anger was now with herself. She thought of her past. Back then, when Russell told her to apologize, she didโ€“scared and desperate.

When they accused her of baseless things, she tried again and again to explain, but no one ever listened. As soon as Kyla cried, Wade slapped her. She had apologized again and again, terrified they would hate her. Terrified to lose what little she thought she had. Even with blood in her mouth and shame in her eyes, she took the blame for something she didnโ€™t do.

Why? Why had she been such a fool and lived without pride? Tildaโ€™s fury was with the girl she used to be.

โ€œWell, well,โ€ Russell said sharply. โ€œLook at youโ€“grown up now, huh? Talking back to me?โ€ His temper flared. He raised his hand, ready to strikeโ€“ But Kyla stepped in.

โ€œDad! No!โ€ Her voice cut through the air, stopping him mid-swing. Blair turned in shock. โ€œKyla, youโ€ฆโ€

Kyla broke down, sobbing so hard it seemed like she could collapse at any moment. โ€œDonโ€™t hit her! Please donโ€™t! Sheโ€™s your real daughter!โ€

Those wordsโ€“your real daughterโ€“pulled Russell back. His gaze returned to Tilda, full of conflicting emotions. He didnโ€™t want to admit it, but this cold, ungrateful, stubborn girl was his flesh and blood.

And stillโ€ฆ how could she be so wicked? โ€œLetโ€™s just talk,โ€ Blair said shakily. โ€œNo need for this to get violent.โ€ As much as it hurt to see Kyla cry, Tilda was still her biological daughter.

โ€œKyla, youโ€™re too good,โ€ Wade muttered, his voice tight.

Watching Kyla take the burn, he would rather be wounded and broken just to side with Tilda. Wade felt like his heart was being cut to pieces. Why? Why couldnโ€™t Kyla be his real sister? Why did it have to be Tildaโ€“the one who was so cruel? It just wasnโ€™t fair.

Russell took a deep breath, forcing his temper back down. He kept his voice even. โ€œTilda, do you understand what you did wrong?โ€ โ€œNot really.โ€

The reply was quick and sharp. Everyone froze. This wasnโ€™t the girl they knew. She wasnโ€™t timid. She wasnโ€™t trying to earn anyoneโ€™s approval. She wasnโ€™t trying to please them. She was different.

โ€œYOU DONโ€™T KNOW?โ€ Russell repeated, each word cutting through the air like a whip. โ€œI donโ€™t,โ€ Tilda said again, clear and steady. If he wanted her to repeat it, she would. As many times as he needed.

She doesnโ€™t know. Her dark eyes locked on his, deep and unreadable. For a second, a chill slid down Russellโ€™s spine. He had never seen that look in her before. She didnโ€™t even seem like the same person.

Russell Jenson had once been the proud and celebrated chairman of the Jenson Group. A veteran in the business world, he had spent a lifetime navigating high-stakes deals and meeting every kind of person imaginable.

Even now, with his sons grown and running the company and himself long retired from the front lines, the sharp instincts he had honed over the years had hardly faded. โ€œMom, Dad, please stop this,โ€ Kyla whispered through her tears, moving closer to Tilda. โ€œKyla, stay away from her!โ€ Russell reached for her, worried she might get hurtโ€“worried Tilda might lash out again. For a brief moment, something ached in Tildaโ€™s chest. But she let it. Wounds healed. Eventually. She had seen this family for what it was. She no longer hoped for anything from them. And she would never bend again just to keep the peace. โ€œTilda,โ€ Kyla sobbed, turning toward her. โ€œI know youโ€™re the real daughter. Iโ€™m so sorry. Youโ€™ve had to live here pretending to be some distant relative because of me. Iโ€™m sorry that you couldnโ€™t even use your real name!โ€ She clutched her chest, gasping for air. โ€œYou can have it all backโ€“your name, your place. I donโ€™t want anything. If me being here makes you uncomfortable, Iโ€™ll leave. Iโ€™ll move out. Iโ€™ll disappear. Youโ€™ll never have to see me again!โ€ Her tears flowed freely. She looked so fragile. So heartbroken. Blair couldnโ€™t hold back anymore. Her eyes turned red, and tears began sliding down her cheeks, one after another. โ€œNo oneโ€™s kicking you out,โ€ Russell said firmly. โ€œKyla, I donโ€™t care if Tildaโ€™s my biological daughter. Youโ€™re my daughter too. Blood doesnโ€™t change that. Youโ€™ll always be a Jenson.โ€ โ€œDad!โ€ Kyla cried, collapsing into his arms. โ€œDad, Iโ€™m scared! Iโ€™m so scared!โ€ โ€œItโ€™s okay,โ€ Russell whispered, holding her tight. โ€œIโ€™m here. No one can hurt you.โ€ Then he turned a murderous glare on Tilda. Whatever doubts heโ€™d had were gone. Kylaโ€™s tears had turned his guilt into pure rage again. But Tilda didnโ€™t flinch. She stood off to the side, silent and untouched, as if none of this had anything to do with herโ€“like she was just watching a play. โ€œTilda!โ€ Wade burst out. โ€œDo you even have a heart? Canโ€™t you see whatโ€™s happening? Donโ€™t you think you owe Kyla an apology? Tell her youโ€™re sorry right now!โ€ Wade couldnโ€™t take it anymore. He stepped forward, eyes blazing, staring her down. Tilda almost laughed. Her eyes, cold and mocking, locked on him. She didnโ€™t say a word, but her look said plenty. And Wade felt itโ€“like she was judging him. Belittling him. She was the sister he had never accepted. The one heโ€™d wished was dead. Furious, he yanked out his phone and shoved it in her face. โ€œLook at what you did! Donโ€™t accuse us of blaming you for nothing!โ€ A bold headline filled the screen: โ€œJensonโ€™s Real Heiress Revealedโ€“Tilda Jensonโ€™s True Identity Exposedโ€ The article told everything: how Tilda had been stolen from the hospital as a newborn, went missing for nineteen years, and finally returned to her family. The photos captured everythingโ€“Tilda walking in and out of the Jenson villa, snapshots from her campus life, and shots of her at family events. Then came the second headline: โ€œWhat Happens to the Adopted Daughter Now?โ€ The internet exploded. Comments flooded in: โ€œReal heiress vs. fake heiressโ€“this is getting juicy.โ€ โ€œRich people drama at its finest.โ€ โ€œNo wayโ€“Jenson Groupโ€™s stock is actually going up over this.โ€ โ€œThey really adore Kyla. Sheโ€™s always at family events, always gorgeous, and treated like royalty.โ€ โ€œThe real oneโ€™s pretty too, not gonna lie.โ€ โ€œBut she doesnโ€™t have the same presence. Kylaโ€™s way more refined. Tilda probably had a rough life, and it shows.โ€ Tilda barely glanced at the screen. Not a single emotion crossed her face. โ€œSo what?โ€ she spoke flatly.
