Chapter 492: Megan and Her Clueless Daughter
The next day, Tilda dressed in her warmest winter gear and headed out.
She even made a point of showing up twenty minutes late.
As her car pulled up, she spotted Megan shivering by the restaurant door, bundled up in a mink coat. Her heavy makeup made her look even more out of place in the freezing cold.
A cold smile curled at Tildaโs lips.
Once she got out of the car, she put on an apologetic face. โSorry for being late. Traffic was terrible.โ
Megan, whoโd just been cursing Tilda in her head, immediately changed her tune when she saw her. โItโs fine, this road in Jeselton is always jammed. Letโs go in. Itโs freezing out here.โ
She even tried to hook her arm through Tildaโs.
Tilda pretended not to notice and brushed right past her, heading inside.
Megan could only awkwardly brush the snow off her fur coat and hurry in after her.
Once they got to the private room Megan had booked, there was a girl inside playing on her phone. She was dressed like a rebellious teen, in flashy designer brands and caked in makeup like Megan.
โJessie, come here and say hi to Tilda.โ
โHi.โ
The young girl called โJessieโ glanced up at Tilda, flaunting her fake eyelashes and colored contacts.
Then, she went right back to fiddling with her phone, tapping away with long, claw-like manicured nails.
Megan looked mortified.
Tilda didnโt seem to mind. She just smiled. โYour daughter sure has a lot of personality.โ
โShe doesโฆ Actually, she really looks up to you. Itโs just that meeting her idol for the first time made her nervous, so sheโs pretending to be busy on her phone to hide it.โ
โItโs fine. Your daughterโs really pretty, too. Sheโs so stylish for her age. Sheโs inherited your good looks, Mrs. Walsh.โ
Megan and Jessie hadnโt expected Tilda to take it so well.
She even showered them with compliments.
Meganโs face lit up in embarrassment and pride. โOh, Tilda, youโre so sweetโฆโ
โHehe, Tilda, I think youโre really pretty, too.โ
Jessie couldnโt hide her delight after being praised. She rested her chin in her hand and eyed Tilda. โSo, Tilda, does your painting really make that much money?โ
โJessie, thatโs not how you talk to Tilda!โ
Megan tried to scold her on the surface, but her eyes gave her away.
She was dying to know just how much money Tilda, now a world champion and outed as X, was making.
If people paid Tilda for paintings, what would the price be?
All those famous painters like Picasso and Van Goghโany of their works could fetch millions.
A few million for an original painting by Tilda didnโt sound expensive at all.
Tilda simply replied, โI donโt have an income. Iโm still living off my savings.โ
โWhat? That canโt be!"
โTilda, are you treating us like outsiders and lying to us now? Youโre a total celebrity now. Everyoneโs talking about you on TikTok and Twitter.
โYouโve got fans everywhereโany painting you make could sell for a fortune. Are you just afraid weโll ask to borrow money? Youโre so stingy.โ
Jessie snickered and shot Tilda a look, clearly not believing her.
โJessie!โ
Megan was about to blow her top at her clueless daughter.
Sheโd warned her so many times not to upset Tilda, but here Jessie was ruining everything.
Sheโd brought Jessie along, thinking that as a fifteen-year-old, sheโd have more in common with Tilda and could help break the ice.
But now, it felt like she was sabotaging Meganโs one shot at a windfall.
With her husband secretly moving money out, having an affair, and even getting his mistress pregnant, Megan knew she had to act quickly or be left penniless after the divorce.
The last thing she wanted was to go back to living brokeโespecially with Jessie dragging her down.
When Jessie realized Megan was losing her temper, she remembered her promise to her mom. So she just pouted and kept playing on her phone.
โSorry, this kid just blurts things outโฆ Or maybe sheโs just too dumb to know better.โ
Megan gave up trying to explain and just wished Jessie would disappear.
โYour reaction is totally normal. Iโm not surprised. The reason I said that is I havenโt had any commissions lately."
โOf course, Iโm also thinking about my own future. Selling paintings is one option, but if I put out too much work, my popularity will suffer, and the value of my work will drop.โ
Tildaโs answer was flawless.
Megan and Jessie finally had nothing left to say.
She must be out of her mind to turn down easy money like that.
With Megan glaring daggers at her, Jessie finally put her phone down, pressed her palms together, and apologized sincerely.
โSorry, Tilda. I shouldnโt have said that. Iโm still a kid. I know you wonโt hold it against me, right?โ
