Chapter 554 Youโ€™re Such a Fool

Blair looked at Tilda as she spoke. โ€œTilda, Iโ€™m really glad you came to see me. I know I donโ€™t have the right to call myself your mother anymore, butโ€ฆ thank you so much for coming.โ€

Without Tildaโ€™s words, Blair might not have found the strength to wake up at all. Blair owed Tilda the most and had hurt her the deepest. If she could turn back time to the very first day she found Tilda, Blair swore she would never do those foolish things again. She would never make Tilda sad.

โ€œBefore you start with your empty words, thereโ€™s something I need to remind youโ€ฆโ€

Wade felt a chill when he heard Tilda say this. He wanted to stop her, but it was already too late.

โ€œThe reason I came here is because your husbandโ€“Russell, Chairman of Jenson Groupโ€“knelt and begged me to come. Otherwise, do you really think Iโ€™d waste my time coming to see you? Take a look in the mirror, Blair. What right do you have to make me give up a perfect holiday just to come see your disabled body?โ€

Tildaโ€™s words were like daggers, stabbing straight into Blairโ€™s heart. Before Blair even realized what was happening, the pain came crashing inโ€“tearing through her whole body, raw and unbearable.

โ€œTilda?!โ€ Russellโ€™s eyes widened. He hadnโ€™t expected Tilda to be so merciless at a time like this, spitting out such venomous words.

โ€œWhat, Russell? Itโ€™s your own trickery that made me come. I had warned you. Youโ€™d regret asking me to visit Blair! Did you really expect honeyed words from my mouth to cheer you guys up? Still clinging to fairy-tale dreams at your age? Fine, then Iโ€™ll be generous enough to play the realist and shatter that fantasy for you!โ€

Tilda ignored the stunned gazes of Russell and the others. โ€œWhat a shame. I actually forgot to take a photo when Russell knelt in front of me and begged me to come to the hospital to see you. I must have been out of my mind. If you doubt me, ask Russell yourselfโ€“did he really kneel and beg me to see you?โ€

With that, she tossed the burning-hot burden straight into Russellโ€™s lap.

This was what people meant by words that cut deeper than a blade. Blair bit her lip tightly and looked at Russell. The moment she caught the flicker of guilt as he averted his gaze, she understood everything. The feeling was like a thousand knives slicing through her heart. For the first time, Blair felt what it truly meant to have her very blood run cold and her whole body throbbing with bone-crushing pain.

โ€œRussellโ€ฆ Why? How could you? Youโ€™re such a fool! How could you kneel to Tildaโ€ฆ for my sakeโ€ฆโ€ Blair had difficulty breathing when she spoke; she had to keep gasping for air just to get the words out. Her eyes turned red, and tears shimmered, ready to spill.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Blair. I know this seems ridiculous, but it was the only way I could get Tilda to come. Otherwise, she wouldnโ€™t have come at all. I told you that Iโ€™d pluck the stars or the moon from the sky for you. I could even sacrifice my life for you. It worked, didnโ€™t it? Tilda came, and you woke up. If I had to watch you stay in a coma, it would have been worse than death for me!โ€ Russell tried to smile gently, comforting Blairโ€™s grief. It was like a lion nuzzling a lioness, ignoring the gaping wound in his own chest. More importantly, he needed to distract Blair.

He had to keep her from noticing her legs. If Blair realized she had lost control of her legs, combined with Tildaโ€™s taunts, she might collapse emotionally. Russell knew he couldnโ€™t hide it forever, but for now, he tried.

โ€œRussell, youโ€™re such a foolโ€ฆโ€ Blair took a deep breath, swallowing back her tears. She reached out and caressed Russellโ€™s cheek, her eyes full of love and worry. She didnโ€™t want him to feel sad at a moment like this. Compared to others, Blair already had a happy life. She had a devoted husband and loving sons.

As for Tildaโ€ฆ That was karma Blair had brought upon herself. Now, she had to bear the consequences.

โ€œTilda, thank you. Now that Mom is awakeโ€ฆ you should leave.โ€ Finally, Wade made the decision. He stepped forward and spoke to Tilda with no room for argument. It was the best choice, even if the others blamed him, even if Tilda came to hate him more. Wade had to be the villain. He had to make Tilda leave.

Dominic and the others could see the resolve in Wadeโ€™s eyes.
