Chapter 608 The Offer Rejected
The server called out again, then pushed the door open when no answer came.
She froze in place at the sight.
Kyla was standing in such a strange pose that she couldnโt help but blurt out, โMaโam, are you okay?โ
Kyla instantly snapped back to her senses. Flustered, she quickly set down her cup, grabbed the mask from the table, and pulled it over her face.
Her eyes flashed with anger as she hissed, โWhatโs wrong with you? Donโt you know youโre supposed to knock and wait until I say you can come in? Is this how this place services its guests?โ
Worried that Tilda might hear through the thin walls and discover she was in the next room, Kyla forced her voice low. She ground the words out between clenched teeth.
The server looked helpless. โMaโam, I did knock and call out. You didnโt respond, and the door wasnโt locked. I thought it was fine to come in.โ
โEnough! Just drop the stuff and get out!โ Kyla snapped.
She doesnโt want to miss out on her chance to eavesdrop on Tilda next door in Room Orchid.
โAdopted daughter?โ Tilda repeated, her eyes glinting cold.
She thought the proposal sounded ridiculous.
โMr. Lowell, you were there the night I humiliated Russell. You saw it yourself. You should know I donโt care about family bonds. Do you really think just because I cut ties with the Jensons and am on my own now, Iโd be desperate for affection and willing to be your daughter?โ
Her voice carried the weight of something dangerous, like a predator hiding in the dark.
Hmph! This man had underestimated me!
Malcom picked up the rejection in her tone, but he tried to smooth things over. โTilda, donโt be upset. It was a suggestion. I truly admire you, and so does my family. When I told them about you, they felt it was a shame you werenโt under our wing. If my words offended you, just laugh it off as a bad joke.โ
โDonโt you dare bring this up again!โ Tilda cut him off sharply. โYou rotten capitalists always treat family like a bargaining chip. In your eyes, blood means nothing. The only thing that matters is who can bring you profit!โ
She rose to her feet, her eyes cold. โI pity the children growing up in your world. Theyโll never know what real love feels like, only transactions dressed up as family. Mr. Lowell, maybe you should listen to your words. Anyone with a brain wouldnโt believe the lies youโre spinning.โ
With that, Tilda stood and headed for the door.
Malcom hadnโt expected Tilda to explode like that. He quickly stepped forward to apologize. โIโm sorry, Miss Tilda. If my words offended you, please forgive me! I swear I didnโt mean it.โ
โDidnโt mean it?โ Tildaโs eyes narrowed. โYou think I canโt tell? If I were just some ordinary orphan, would the chairman of Crown Group even care about me? Youโd crush me like an ant without a second thought. At the end of the day, youโre no different from Russell. The moment you see value in me, you turn me into a bargaining chip to brag about.โ
She knew that if she accepted Malcomโs offer, it would be a sharp blow against the Jensons.
But Tilda wasnโt crazy enough to risk her future just for revenge.
Getting tied to the Lowells โ people just as rotten as the Jensons โ could never bring her happiness.
โMr. Lowell,โ she said coldly, โyou should try living the life of an ordinary family. You may have money, status, and power, but youโve lost far more than you realize. Youโll never understand how precious simple warmth at home really is.โ
Her words cut like ice, a dismissal that couldnโt be argued with.
Tilda brushed past him and strode out, leaving Malcom pale and shaken.
Out in the hall, Kyla had been eavesdropping. She only caught the last few words.
She couldnโt make out what they were saying anymore. They werenโt talking close to the wall on her side.
โWhat happened? What did I miss?โ
She gently bites her lip.
Dammit! This is driving me crazy!
All because of that useless server barging in earlier. Once this is over, I swear Iโll file a complaint and get her fired.
Suddenlyโ
Bang!
That loud noise nearly scared Kyla out of her skin.
Inside the room, Malcom had grabbed a teacup and hurled it at the floor, smashing it into pieces.
โArghhh!โ
The sharp crash echoed through the hall. The noise brought the manager running.
Knowing it was Malcom who occupied that room, the manager rushed in nervously. โMr. Lowell, whatโs wrong? Is there something youโre unhappy with?โ
Malcom drew in a long breath, fighting the urge to unleash his anger on the man. โNothing. Get lost!โ
โYes, Mr. Lowell!โ
The manager was terrified when he saw Malcom lose his temper. He didnโt dare stay a second longer and rushed out of the room.
Malcomโs fists trembled. His face twisted with rage. โScrew you, Tilda. No one has ever dared to lecture me. Youโre the first.โ
