Chapter 648 Iโ€™m Not That Desperate

Unaโ€™s expression was the very picture of despair.

Alfie, meanwhile, felt like a thundercloud had descended over his head.

Out of nowhere, someone had vomited all over him.

No one could feel remotely okay about that.

And yet, watching the panic on Unaโ€™s face, a mischievous spark lit up in Alfieโ€™s eyes.

โ€œAlright, Una,โ€ he said, his tone teasing, โ€œI see you remember what you did. Looks like I donโ€™t need to remind you. And about the compensation you owe meโ€ฆ I hope youโ€™re ready to make good on that.โ€

He reached to straighten his suit, then paused, remembering he was covered in vomit, and withdrew his hands. He cast a glance at Tilda and raised an eyebrow, giving her a subtle signal.

Tilda blinked in surprise.

Nathan, oblivious to Alfieโ€™s hint, saw his chance and quickly interjected. โ€œMr. Alfie, she didnโ€™t do it on purpose. And besides, you were the one leaning toward Ms. Una in the first place. Now you want her to pay up? With your status, thatโ€™s not a good look if word gets out.โ€

Only then did Alfie notice Nathan. He sized him up coolly, sneering, โ€œOh, didnโ€™t see you there, Nathan. Tell meโ€“do you think I need your guidance on how to handle this?โ€

โ€œYou littleโ€ฆโ€ Nathanโ€™s face darkened. He hadnโ€™t expected Alfie to treat him with such blatant disregard! After all, he was one of the Bellsโ€˜ most promising sons! Heโ€™d heard Alfie was tight with Jude, but he didnโ€™t think Alfie would get so cocky and start ignoring him. He wasnโ€™t gonna just let that slide. And here, in front of Tilda, Nathan had to assert himself.

โ€œFine,โ€ Nathan said, forcing a calm smile. โ€œWhatever this lady owes you, Iโ€™ll cover it!โ€

Alfieโ€™s eyes narrowed. โ€œYouโ€™ll pay? And who exactly are you? Una, do you even know him?โ€

โ€œUhโ€ฆ I don't know himโ€ฆโ€ Unaโ€™s mind was still foggy, and she stared at Nathan in confusion.

Several onlookers couldnโ€™t help but laugh. Nathan had tried to play the hero, but the woman in question didnโ€™t even remember him. Maybe she didnโ€™t want his help at all.

And yet, somehow tangling with the CEO of the Woodward Group? That was enviable! Some women even dreamed of pulling a stunt like this. They would throw themselves at Alfie and puke on him, all to leave a lasting impression and climb the social ladder.

โ€œMs. Una and I met briefly before,โ€ Nathan went on, his voice louder, full of pride. โ€œNow that sheโ€™s sobered up, she may have forgotten. As Ms. Tildaโ€™s friend, I canโ€™t just stand by!โ€

He emphasized his role as Tildaโ€™s friend, as if the title alone gave him authority.

Alfie raised an eyebrow at Tilda. โ€œTildaโ€ฆ is this guy your friend?โ€

Tilda slid a hand into her pocket and shrugged. โ€œHeโ€™s crazy. I donโ€™t know him.โ€

The crowd erupted in derisive laughter. Every boast Nathan had just made now felt like a slap to his own face.

โ€œMs. Tilda, whatโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDonโ€™t call my name. Weโ€™re not close. Alfie, Iโ€™ll leave Una to you. Iโ€™m out.โ€ With that, Tilda waved dismissively and started to leave. She had enough selfโ€“awareness to know staying would only make her a glaring third wheel. She wasnโ€™t interested in interfering with Alfie and Una.

โ€œMs. Tilda!โ€ Seeing her go, Nathan immediately abandoned any pretense of helping Una and chased after her.

โ€œNathan! Tilda! Wait! Donโ€™t walk so fast!โ€ Jarrett, finally catching on, scrambled after them. โ€œWhโ€“whatโ€™s going on? Tilda, wait! Iโ€™m coming too!โ€

Una tried to dash off on her short legs, but Alfie caught her.

โ€œUna, you still owe me. Youโ€™re coming with me.โ€ Without waiting for protest, he began tugging her along.

As for Tildaโ€ฆ well, Alfie trusted Jude to handle her pursuers, so he didnโ€™t need to worry. Right now, his focus was entirely on Una.

Una blinked up at him warily. โ€œAlfie, what are you doing? Youโ€™re not trying to do anything dirty, right? Iโ€™m not for sale!โ€

โ€œYou ruined my suit,โ€ Alfie said, looking down at her tiny frame with mock disapproval. โ€œShouldnโ€™t you help make it right? Why are you talking about selling yourself? Besides, Iโ€™m not that desperate. So relax.โ€

He thought to himself, Iโ€™ll fatten her up a little, make her more huggable. Then Iโ€™ll make my move.

โ€œWhat the heck?!โ€ Una rolled her eyes in fury, practically itching to kick him.

Heโ€™s still such a pain!

When they first met, sheโ€™d intensely disliked Alfie. And now, somehow, things between them had improved. But still, thanks to him, she was now hundreds of thousands in debt!
